Update from Jan 2024

Visited the restaurant again for their thali and we were not disappointed.

We ordered the executive thali, standard thali and the days special of Undio.

We were not disappointed with the taste. It was delicious.

Although we believe the oil level in the food could be lowered a bit. It was just too much oil.

Found out about this restaurant by chance. After a tiring day at the park, this was indeed a breathe of relief. We are skeptical of trying out new restuarants especially when hungry, The evolutionary genes have always begged us to follow tried and tested path especially when tired and hungry. But this was great.

The restaurant opened just 7 months ago. It's a franchisee from Gujarat, India. Except for the layout of the restaurant cum sweet shop, everything else is supposed to be the same according to the owner Siddhart.

What we liked

Great ambience and vibe Quick and courteous service The people serving, cleaning and taking orders did it all with a smile on their face We ordered Chinese Bhel, Veg Manchurian, Milijuli Chat, and Schezwan Fried Rice. They were all lip smacking with the rice being spicy just the way I like it, 🔥. Our friends ordered Chole Bhatire, boy did they look appetizing. Their 5 year old lapped it up so it must be good. The Cashew Masala side and naans were equally loved by them.

What could be improved

We waited for the menu but we're supposed to scan the QR code on the table. We're told after we asked. Although it might sound obvious but a little nudge before would have cut down waiting time. We waited for the bill but were supposed to pay for it at the counter. Again, were told only after we asked.

General Observations

The price is in line with similar good restaurants. We found limited items of North Indian dishes vs other North Indian styled restaurants. Although Gujarati restaurants would technically be North-West Indian. Thali is only served between 12-3 Kachori as a snack is available until 6pm only. The menu actually makes it abundantly clear. So read the menu. When hungry logic goes for a toss, gets lost when you have hungry kids bawling for food😂 You can also buy sweets and snacks from here as the name suggests and as seen from the photos.

Would definitely visit...

Disappointed with the service and staff behavior at Gwaliya Etobicoke.

My friends and I arrived at 9:47 PM(3rd July 2025) , well aware of the restaurant’s timings, so we took a cab just to make it on time. Upon arrival, we were asked to wait despite plenty of empty tables—apparently because only some were cleaned. While we respected that, it was disappointing that we weren’t seated promptly when they expected us to order quickly and within a restricted time.

We ordered: • Chole Kulcha (Chaat section) • Veg Manchurian (semi-gravy) • Aloo Paratha

By 10:25 PM, staff informed us it was a “last call” for orders, while we were still waiting for our Aloo Paratha. Then one of the servers told us the outdoor section was closing. I understood and clarified that we were waiting on items still not served. She said flatly, “no more orders after 10:30,” despite us already being seated and waiting on food.

When the paratha finally came exactly at 10:30, it was shocking—there was no aloo stuffing inside. We even recorded a video to prove that.

I asked to speak to Mr. Thakkar, the owner, to share my feedback respectfully, but the staff member became argumentative and dismissive, repeating “policy and timing” instead of showing even basic courtesy.

As someone who also works in the restaurant industry, I understand closing protocols. But when guests are already seated, refusing even small add-on orders and serving poorly made food with no accountability is simply not acceptable.

Customers wait patiently for service even when the place is busy. But when it’s your turn to deliver quality and care—Gwaliya failed today.

I’ve heard about issues with the service here before and sadly, I experienced it first-hand. This was a complete waste of money, time, and energy. I won’t be returning, and I’ll be sharing this experience with others as well.

Kindly look into your staff training and customer...

Dear friends, We are back again with another review for Gwalia. Came in with high hopes and expectations. They were quickly met as we were seated promptly, but as many good things, it didn’t last. Veerappan mama at the front desk came over and very rudely asked us to GET UP AND WAIT because somebody else was apparently waiting befor us. Friends, we understand that this is only fair, but is it right to ask your mehmaans to get up after they are already looking at the menu??? Is this dharm? NO IT IS NOT. A frank embarrassment to our entire nation. But then we were seated, and our experience surprisingly got much better. Our waitress, Dhwani, was very kind and accommodating. She gave us many suggestions, and was very transparent, even telling us out right if the food would be too much or too heavy. Thanks to her , we left happy and comfortably full, but not stuffing our faces in an attempt to not waste. The ambiance was very lively, food was brought out soon after ordering. The following is what we ordered:

masala lemonade; fantastic, we ordered it twice bc first time was so good veg and paneer Manchurian: crispy paneer, flavorful gravy Bhakri pizza: thoda sa bland, cheese was overkill. Not going to have fun on the toilet tmrw (iykyk) big boss gwalia sandwich: 🤤jabardast szhechuan fried rice: was 🌶️ and flavorful Hakka noodles: no salt no spice, wouldn’t recommend paneer butter: fragrant and soft paneers chilli cheese naan: fluffy and tasty garlic naan: can’t go wrong imarthi with rabdi: super crispy! Bada mast.

All in all, kudos to Dhwani for a job well done! Would come back and would recommend to my chaat lovers as well. Till next time friends!

Signing off, Pondibaby 11 Suresh garu nana Food fanatic Expert...

I recently purchased sweets from Gwalia Sweets, hoping to indulge in some delicious treats. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Upon opening the box, I was shocked to discover a hair entangled within more than one sweet. Product Quality: The presence of a hair in the sweets was not just disappointing but also extremely unhygienic. It raises serious concerns about the cleanliness and quality control standards of Gwalia Sweets. As a consumer, finding foreign objects in food is not only unpleasant but also poses health risks. Customer Service: After this unsettling discovery, I promptly reached out to Gwalia Sweets to voice my concerns. Regrettably, my attempts to contact the store by phone were met with silence. The lack of response from their end is concerning and reflects poorly on their commitment to customer satisfaction. Hygiene and Food Safety: The presence of a foreign object like hair in food is a clear violation of basic hygiene standards. It not only ruins the entire experience but also leaves a lasting impression of negligence on the part of the establishment. Conclusion: Overall, my experience with Gwalia Sweets was highly disappointing. The lack of response to my complaints further exacerbated the situation. I urge the management of Gwalia Sweets to take immediate action to improve their quality control measures and customer service. As it stands, I cannot recommend their products due to these concerning issues. Rating: 1/5 (One star for the hope that they improve their standards in the future)

Finally a decent Indian Outlet to have some fantastic sweets and street food! Ordered takeout for some sweets - Kesar Peda, Motichoor Ladoo, Rasogulla, Ras Malai and Kaju Pista roll. Everything tasted good and was fresh. Also tried some samosas, kachori and Samosa Pav - Samosa/Samosa Pav was okay and didn’t stand up to the hype and the authenticity, but the Kachori was definitely good. They also have some namkeens and Indian snacks to bite on. Tried Badam-Pista Cookies and Cashew cookies as well - the badam-pista cookies were really good with not a lot of butter or sugar. Cashew cookies on the other hand were a little top buttery for me, but others may like it for sure! Some things that were weird - we asked for a lb of Motichoor ladoo, and one was missing in the pack - I doubt if they would have asked to keep it intact, anyone would say no. Also, they need more staff - one poor girl was packing, billing, taking orders and everything - won’t blame her but all our chutneys were missing in the takeout. Will be returning back, and recommend for everyone who would like some Indian sweets in Canada (especially GTA region).
