I have been going to Drupati's for a couple years to get my roti fix. A lot of Trini friends and acquaintances recommended it for 'real stuff''.
The food has never disappointed although I must say recently I have found the portions slightly diminished. However, if you're into eating sensible portions, the double with meat makes for a meal. I often have to split the regular rotis into two portions for a meal+snack.
Now if you're not Trini or from the Caribbean and just out to try something new, something to consider is the chilly pepper heat level. All curried menu items are offered in mild, medium and hot. But even the milder versions of Drupati's dishes have considerable heat for someone not used to them. So be prepared and make a sensible choice about how "hot" you want your dish.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the numbering system for orders is unclear. The place does have its share of regulars but at one time even I was a first-timer. The staff are friendly and courteous but assume that you know what it's all about. The customer service is completely reactive as opposed to proactive; the customer has to ask questions.
When I brought in my non-brown friend, they were more automatically more helpful and customer friendly. IMO, this implies stereotyping and is unprofessional. But again this is a common problem with most ethnic resto-takeouts.
The plaza where the restaurant is located is a little rundown and this is reflected inside as well. The inside is clean enough and the decor is very basic; no appeal whatsoever. Lots of glitzy posters around advertising social events and a simple blackboard to list the day's special. For me, this is reminiscent of some of the restaurants I encountered while visiting the Caribbean and I find it quaint. But I'm not tempted to sit down for a bite.
I will keep going back to Drupati's for my roti fix despite all the shortcomings I mentioned. Why? Because the roti is just that good. I supposed that's what most other people do as well and I guess that's probably why they won't change. But a little stiffer competition could...
Read moreToday I placed an order for 3 dishes plus 3 party size paratha roti for a dinner party. I was very clear over the phone about my order because I have been given the wrong order numerous times! I even asked the person who picked up the order to check to make sure the order was correct. He opened it saw it didn't look quite the same but inquired with the staff about the rice, the server told him the rice was in the dish just at the bottom of the chow mien noodles for all three dishes. Later, I opened the container to find out they gave me the wrong order again. I immediately called the restaurant (Woodbine location). I explained they gave me the wrong order again and told them my situation of my guests arriving soon and I'm very disappointed with the service. I requested to speak with the manager, I was placed on hold about 3 times so the staff could speak to the manager then report back to me. The manager expected that I return to the restaurant with the wrong dishes so they could deal with it on a Friday evening long weekend during rush hour while I live an hour away. I said I could not drive back because it is unreasonable and I was about to host a get together. I asked to be compensated for their mistake when it is convenient for me. The owner refused and said if I cannot return on the same day that I need to keep the food in the fridge and bring it back to the restaurant on my next visit so they can make me the correct order then. So in actuality, according to her, I should return the spoiled food to the restaurant a month later to show proof that the they messed up my order again. They are unprofessional and classless to say the least. They did not offer an apology like other businesses would have done. They took no responsibility for their endless errors. As a matter of fact, they place the responsibility solely on the customer when they make a mistake with your order. I will NOT be ordering from this restaurant again. I will have to look for an alternative roti shop...
Read moreI drove 45 min to come to this location for the first time because I will never go back to the Drupati’s in Vaughan. Came in about 8pm. There wasn't alot of people and 3 girls at the bar area and 1 girl that seemed to be the server going all over the place. We sat ourselves down on the only corner table that wasn't dirty. All the tables down the whole wall to the bavk was dirty dishes, empty bottles plates. These things should be cleaned soon as a customer leaves no excuse hire someone else if needed. It's a bad look on the restaurant. We waited more than 35 min before someone came and took our order we were hungry and about to leave. We ordered 2 simple dishes. Took another 25 min to get the food. I have to say we were disappointed with the portion when it came. This is probably the least amount of food to share with my friend I ever encountered. Thank God the food taste good otherwise if there was a star for - 5 I would give that. At any Chinese restaurant or even the other Drupati’s we get the same thing and pay no more than $35. When we got the bill was even more shocking. It was more than $50 $3 for pop. Talk about robbery. If the cost matched the amount of food no problem but we were still hungry after. Will I ever come back again even though the food was ok? No I won't be back at that price and service. No matter where we go we always have food left over to take home. Here we were looking for a little more to eat with nothing left. Note to owner!! Get your staff who stand at the front looking pretty to pay more attention to customers and help the dining area to serve and clean. I even had to ask for serving spoons for our food which is common sense to give your customers to dish out food. Do I have to use my hands to serve my food. Match your portion with prices. I could have brought my own cooked rice for you to make fried rice for me. Anyway I...
