One of the best take-out experiences I've ever had! For $20 (including tip) I had enough to last me 3-4 meals in the fridge.
On my way to Dufferin station, the idea of picking up some bland A&W on the way home was just too depressing, so I looked up what other places were in the area. I was thrilled to see a Caribbean restaurant pop up, and when I saw the line outside, it just made me more excited to try their food. The line moved quickly, and once inside it was easy to order even from behind glass and while wearing a mask.
I was asked what kind of sauce I wanted, and replied "SPICY!" with so much excitement that I think the woman preparing my order might have given me some extra chicken just for the enthusiasm. Because MAN do they ever give you bang for your buck here! I have never seen so much delicious food crammed into what looked at first like a smallish Styrofoam container.
When it was my turn to pay, I joked to her that she was going to put those two franchises across the street (Popeyes and A&W) out of business. She laughed and said they always have a line, but it's still a challenge to compete with the resources of a big chain. I made sure to ask if there was a tip option since she'd truly STACKED my order with more chicken and rice than I was expecting. But I can't share the cute little moment that made me go home smiling because then all y'all will want the same... just be good to the princesses of Jerk King and they'll be good to you.
Now that I know this place is here, I'm never going to settle for a depression-order of A&W or Popeyes, both of which taste like they've been frozen six months while Jerk King is fresh, delicious, and generous. It's worth the quick wait in the line! Support the hell out of them and make sure to ask for the tip option, because their prices are so reasonable for the amount and...
Read moreOrdered on uber tonight... Curried goat (me) oxtail (my partner), respectively our go to Caribbean dishes.. Tonight's order came in absolutely deplorable.. The oxtail had no texture, it was like having a piece of stale bread in your mouth that was covered in a slimy fat. It was horrendous, when she asked me to try a piece, a fan of oxtail myself was superbly dissapointed of every aspect of the meat. The goat was not much better itself, also covered in a thick coat of fat and sinnue was barely edible, still miles away from the grotesque oxtail dish. Honestly, no redeeming factors for either dish, before being refunded by uber I tried to call the restaurant personally to ask about the quality of the meats and general disregard for a customers palette, after 6 phone calls that went to a full voice mail I had to complain to uber, who were at no fault at all... And for the kicker, uber customer service also couldn't get the restaurant on the line leading to my full refund.
Deplorable food, first time trying there so I don't want to blame the restaurant perhaps just the one who prepared our plates (Friday December 21st, at around one) sadly never will order from a jerk king again because of this slop...
Read moreThe first time I went there I was not treated well. I felt rushed and the server was very rude and was "yelling" at me. I had never been there before, so I was confused who she was talking to. I brushed it off and figured she was having a bad day. The food was good though. The second time I went, different server, but she tried to serve me a broken piece of fried chicken as a full piece. I told her I saw the piece fall off. I ordered the curry chicken instead. Then they opened in the Dufferin Mall. The first lady that was serving me so sweet. Then this other server rushes from the back of the store, dumps my food, and says something to the first lady, totally embarrassing her. Then tries to find the tiniest pieces of chicken to serve and got my order wrong. I told her to forget it, I'll just go somewhere else. After those 3 experiences, I was done. It got so bad that if I was craving Jerk King's food, I had to get my Filipino or non Caribbean friends to order for me. These incidents happened a few years ago (pre pandemic), but it's still bothersome. It's also embarrassing what they're charging for non authentic,...
