This park has been around before I was born. So over 36 years. It's a park that is right beside Dufferin Mall so it is very covienient to go shopping and then spend some time in the park or vis versa. Lots of benches and open grass to have a seat on. I bring my kids to the playground. The playground is okay. It definetely needs a well deserved update. It has been the same since I was a child but children today still love and enjoy it. There is a soccer field, they now have a small sand volleyball court, concrete ping pong table, small wading pool that's open with a lifeguard in the summer, there is a big children's sand play area with shovels and a water tap to dig and build sand castles and maybe get muddy with the water. Lots of small hills that the kids can slide down in the wintertime. There was an outdoor skating rink and basketball court but that is under renovation right now. It's a nice park especially for all the surrounding families. I give it 4 stars because some features need an upgrade but I still love going there. You could even go to the Dufferin Mall to Walmart or No Frills or the food court and buy some food and have a picnic in the park,...
Read moreThe tent town came and never left thanks to self righteous area residents who live two streets over. The supply the homeless with everything they need including better tents. My family had to move out of the area because of all the drug use first thing in the morning on our way to school. The park itself is actually great, however a large segment of the population who visit regularly are inconsiderate of the children in the area. There is clear signage at every entrance showing that dogs are to be on a leash. Virtually the entire neighbourhood ignores these signs and the result is a risk to the children and virtually everything alive in the park. I've pushed a dog away from my 2 year old as he attempted to bite her arm. I've witnessed pitbulls attack other dogs, all off leash. It has been such an on going issue that finally the city is planning an off leash, fenced off area (which they never followed through on as far as I know). I highly doubt that it will make a difference as people are already...
Read moreThis should be the model for all city parks. Diverse community, nicely maintained, beautiful kids play area with wading pool in summer. In winter hybrid rink (free) for pleasure skating or shinny, in summer bike polo! Who knew? Organic market in Thursday afternoons, a couple of ovens that produce fresh bread for same. Bonfires can be booked. Soccer pitch in summer and baseball diamond. Pick up basketball on small court surface. Some sketchy (but harmless) dudes sometimes hanging out near the soccer field. Meet some friendly people exercising their dog. Schedule a birthday party or family gathering underneath the leafy bower. The downside? DG park is so amazingly wonderful that the city is taking community management from local citizens and bureaucratizing the whole thing. Probably will be a colossal failure because what else is new? stay tuned... I've posted some winter pics of our beloved park....
