Dear Kerala Kafe,
I would like to take a moment to share my thoughts on our recent dining experience at your restaurant. First, I want to express our gratitude for the excellent service and the pleasant atmosphere you provided. The ambiance was inviting, and your staff was attentive and accommodating, which made our visit enjoyable.
We visited your establishment as a group of eleven people and were eager to explore your menu. We decided to try a variety of dishes, including Malabar porotas, chicken prattu, beef roast, chicken biryani, kizhi porotas, and a selection of different shakes. With such a diverse order, we had high hopes for a memorable meal.
After gathering feedback from everyone in our group, I must be candid in saying that our overall experience fell short of the expectations set by your restaurant's reputation. The standout item for us was undoubtedly the Chicken Biryani—its flavors were well-balanced, and it truly captured the essence of the dish. However, the other items we tried were rather average and did not live up to the high praise we had heard prior to our visit.
Our group frequently dines out and enjoys exploring various cuisines, so we feel we have a fair understanding of what makes a dish exceptional.
I genuinely hope this feedback serves as constructive input for your kitchen team. I believe that with some refinements, your dishes could become truly outstanding. We are hopeful that our next visit will reflect the quality we know your restaurant is capable of delivering.
Thank you for your attention. We look forward to hearing how you improve and hope to return soon for another...
Read moreWe have been regular customers at this restaurant due to our past pleasant dining experiences. However, today’s visit was disappointing, primarily because of the service.
When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, and we placed our order before choosing a corner table, as we were dining with a small child. However, after we settled in, a staff member asked us to move, stating that the table was meant for six people. This was surprising, as we have been seated at the same spot on previous visits without any issue, especially since it was not peak hours. To make matters worse, we were directed to a table that had not yet been cleaned, which was not a welcoming experience.
While the food was acceptable, the service was not up to expectations. When we ordered additional items (just two appams), it took over 15 minutes to be served, and they did not seem fresh. More than the food, it was the service that left us disappointed today.
What made the experience even more frustrating was that, towards the end of our meal, two other guests sat at the very table from which we were moved, yet no staff member asked them to relocate. This inconsistency in service was disappointing and made us feel unfairly treated.
We hope the management takes this feedback into account to ensure a more consistent and customer-friendly experience...
Read moreHidden Gem Alert! This little spot near Scarborough General Hospital is a must-visit for anyone craving authentic Malabar flavours! It might look unassuming from the outside, but don’t let that fool you -- you’re in for a treat!
The dining room is spacious, with just three booths and three tables, giving it a clean and tidy vibe. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff was super friendly. She even brought me water without me asking, which is always a nice touch, and offered me more porottas (dangerous for a porotta lover like me!).
I tried the $17.99 kizhi beef with three porottas, and wow, these were loaded with tender, juicy beef cubes, cooked to perfection with just the right spices. For the price, you’re getting a fantastic deal -- flavour-packed, hearty, and so satisfying.
Owner Umesh, who’s incredibly friendly and clearly passionate, mentioned he’s renovating the dining area next week, so it sounds like this hidden gem is only going to get better. And with free parking, there’s really no excuse not to make the drive, especially if you’re a fan of Indian food and haven’t tried Malabar cuisine yet.
10/10 – highly recommended! If you’re a fan of South Indian Kerala flavours or just looking for something new, this Scarborough Spot deserves a place high...
