I was a long standing customer of Hakka no 1. Over 3 years, I promoted them to all my friends and family member. But my last visit has changed it all. If I go back 2 years ago, I used to go there almost every other days. Then they introduced automatic 10% service fee, regardless of whether they did a good job or not! I usually give them 10% tips regardless, but I don't like the arrogance of making it a mandatory thing. So I found alternative restaurants and started to go there less and less. I noticed, however, that over the years their service and food quality is declining, but at least the price was reasonable compare to the amount given. So I kept quite. But during my last visit I was surprised to see each other their items went up by $3 - $4! It is really sad that the management at Hakka No. 1 has got too greedy that now they are loosing customers like myself.

I have already found a much better restaurant compare to Hakka No. 1. It's called Wok and Fortune at Eglinton & MacCawen. It's a small shop, but they not only have better quality food + free wifi, but top notch customer service.

Food was good. Went for lunch with a friend, just the two of us. Ordered the sweet and sour chicken with rice lunch special. Was tasty and just the right amount for lunch. Service was quick. There wasn't many patrons in there as there was only two other tables with two people each, but that could be because of all the snow that's fallen in the past 24 hours and more snow fell while we were there. Prices are decent as well. Alcohol is available. Our lunch came with a bottle of water and a spring roll which was tasty as well. My only gripe was that they charged a 10% Service Charge, 10%, for a table of two? Really?!?! Unfortunately I only realized the service charge after getting home. And that's after I had tipped 15%. Now, the food was good, not great and the service was quick and staff were friendly, but definitely not at a 25%+ tip. I would have given 4 stars but lost 2 stars for that 10% Service Charge for a table of two, who stayed less than an hour. I'll definitely be looking closer at my bill next time my my friends or I choose to visit this or any of the...

Used to really enjoy the the food before but now I would give it a zero if I could. Either the staff changed or they simply stopped caring don't waste your money here. Every time I order now a days there's a mistake, ordered chicken corn get hot and sour instead, ask for spicy garlic beef gets it overcooked so much I can barely chew it then finally today I lost my patience. I ask for a medium hot and sour soup instead I not only get a small and a very sad sorry with no accommodations nothing, it tastes almost flavorless only thing I can taste is an extreme amount of salt and nothing else and hardly any chicken. Now they did deny then once I showed a pic they apologized but what will I do with a sorry when mistake is repeated every time ? She even lied at first saying she double checked my order this time if you checked then how us the size wring ? I am officially done with this place, the food, the price and service is not worth it.
