TLDR: SEC is good. Customer service is rough. Short dude at the register with the ugly camo cap was wildly unprofessional.
I found this place on TikTok and decided to try it solo after Pilates. The SEC sandwich was solid, and the staff (especially the girl at the register) were super friendlyâoverall, good vibes.
Fast forward: Iâm hyped, telling my mom and sister they have to try it. We show up, and the guy working the register acts like we personally wronged him. My sister, who has an egg allergy (you know, that super common thing that could literally stop someone from breathing?), politely asks for her sandwich without egg.
Immediately the short man at the cash register jumps in with a snarky, âJust so you know, the price wonât change- removing the egg doesnât change the price, I canât change that.â No eye contact, full passive-aggressive tone, like we were trying to hustle him for 50 cents. No one asked about a price change. No one expected a price change. It was redundant and weirdly defensive, as itâs pretty common knowledge that removing any ingredient for dietary or allergy reasons doesnât change the price.
So we left!
Honestly, the level of pent-up hostility in his tiny frame was almost impressive. It felt like he was waiting for an excuse to be snippy, and the âprice wonât changeâ thing was just his way of flexing unnecessary authority. Based on another review, it seems like this place just has a rude cashier sometimes? Iâm not expecting five-star service or a confetti cannon- Iâm not even really expecting a âgood morningâ - but maybe donât bark unnecessary disclaimers at customers who didnât...
Read moreDecent spot with a pared down retro vibe serving up modern diner classics. I got the Club sandwich, which came on 2 (not 3) slices of toasted buttered white bread, with crispy bacon, a stack of iceberg lettuce, and a layer of mayonnaisey shredded chicken salad. It did not have the essential load-bearing middle slice of bread, there were no side pickles, tomato slices, cheddar cheese or festive toothpicks. A classic club sammy is not for the faint of heart nor the thin of artery. I get that this is an update and it solves some production issues (e.g. not toasting a 3rd slice, using an ice cream scoop of chicken salad instead of grilling a slice of chicken), but these corners cut out much of the nostalgia of retro food, cramming a stack of fresh ingredients with the unified greasy seasonings of the grill. Sadly the chocolate chip banana bread was dense and under baked too. I liked it, and points for style and effort, but food needs a bit of refining to lean into the concept more and turnover the...
Read moreBreakfast sandwiches really are having a moment in the city, and I think Iâve found my new go-to spot. What I love most is that not only are the sandwiches delicious, but they also deliver real value for the price. At other trendy places, you often end up with something small and overpriced - but not here.
I had the SEC (Sausage, Egg, and Cheese), while my friend went with the MEC (Mortadella, Egg, and Cheese). Both are made to order, and fair warning: theyâre huge! The eggs were just slightly runny, the bun was lightly toasted yet still soft enough to press down, making it easier to get that perfect bite of everything together. I especially loved that the sausage wasnât a patty, but actual breakfast links sliced lengthwise - it added so much more texture and flavour.
Both sandwiches were hearty, satisfying, and downright delicious. Honestly, after one of these, you can probably forget about lunch. Iâll definitely be...
