Great food and amazing service! So hospitable, food was prepared quickly, and amazing value as well. I think we paid under $60 for 4 dishes, which these days in Toronto is almost unheard of. We ordered over the phone and picked our order up ourselves. The inside is much nicer than what it was under previous ownership, simple and clean, with kind of a canteen vibe. Take out containers looked small at first, but when we opened them the quantity was sizeable for the price and they were very generous with the amount of chicken in the butter chicken and the amount of shrimps in the shrimp fry!!! We have a lot of leftovers. We had an order each of naan, butter chicken, mutton curry, and chettinad. The naan was large, soft, and stretchy. The butter chicken was a great balance of sweet and savoury with a lot of chicken breast that was tender and not dry at all. The chettinad was a chicken curry which was so flavorful and delicious but pretty spicy, so be warned! The mutton in the mutton curry was cooked and flavoured beautifully. If I had one critique, the butter chicken and mutton curry would be just a touch thicker, but that's my personal preference. The shrimp fry was probably my favourite dish, just nicely cooked and deliciously seasoned shrimps - over rice it was amazing!!! Highly recommend. We will definitely be coming back soon to try the dosas.
Edit: came back and tried the dosas (like a savoury crepe) and the mango lassi. It was definitely worth it! The dosas were so good, and the chutneys that came with them were amazing!! Definitely as good or even better than any we've tried in the downtown area. We got the ghee masala dosa and the paneer dosa and both were HUGE portions and under $12 per plate. I especially liked the pouri (sp?) that they offered with it as well. That was a unique offering compared to other places and my partner said it reminded him of home in Kerala. An amazing brunch option for those who like a savoury brunch!!! Also, the owners are sweet, attentive, and so so passionate about what they are serving. 10/10 recommend!
Edit 2: if you haven't tried the chole bhature yet you are missing out!!!! The dish is a chickpea curry served with an insanely soft and fluffy fried bread. The bread is TO DIE FOR and the curry that comes with it is delicious. It's now the main thing...
Read moreI happened to stumble upon this hidden gem while waiting for my street car, and I’m so glad I did! The inviting aroma outside drew me in, and from the moment I stepped inside, I was met with warmth and hospitality. Mohan welcomed me with a genuine smile and kind words, making me feel right at home.
Knowing I was in a rush, he quickly suggested the chicken biryani—and I’m so glad he did! The portion was generous, the flavors were spot on, and at just $11 (around $13.55 with tax) it was absolutely worth it. Since my streetcar was running late (as usual in Toronto!), I decided to try the vada as well. I got four fresh, perfectly crispy pieces with chutney, and the price was super reasonable ($3.38 with tax)
What sets this place apart is their commitment to freshness—everything is made to order, nothing sits around in batches. That kind of dedication is rare, and it’s exactly why I’ll be coming back again and again. Plus, they offer other services too, and I can’t wait to try more of their home-cooked dishes. If you’re looking for delicious, freshly made food with a personal touch, this is the place to be!
I was starving so I couldn’t take any I believe me or not this place is definitely worth trying (needless to say as I’ve already written such a big review so you know that this place is definitely worth it).
A big thank you to Mohan and Priya for their dedication and effort in bringing joy to people through their...
Read moreIf you're looking for an authentic South Indian culinary experience, Madras Curry is the place to be! I recently had the pleasure of trying their Parotta and Chicken Curry, and it was nothing short of exceptional.
The Parotta was a masterpiece in itself—flaky, soft, and layered to perfection. Each bite had the right amount of chewiness and buttery richness, making it impossible to stop at just one. It’s clear that the chefs here have mastered the art of making this classic South Indian flatbread.
Now, let’s talk about the Chicken Curry. This dish was an absolute flavor bomb! The curry was rich, aromatic, and perfectly spiced, with tender pieces of chicken that melted in the mouth. The balance of spices was spot-on, offering a harmonious blend of heat, tanginess, and depth. Paired with the Parotta, it was a match made in culinary heaven.
What truly stood out was the authenticity of the flavors. It felt like a home-cooked meal, prepared with love and tradition. The portion sizes were generous, and the service was warm and attentive, adding to the overall delightful experience.
Whether you're a fan of South Indian cuisine or trying it for the first time, the Parotta and Chicken Curry at "Madras Curry" is a must-try. I can’t wait to go back and explore more of their menu. Highly recommended!
Also, my daughter ordered Plain Ghee Dosa, and that was...
