Years ago at this McDonald’s I had one of the worst encounters of my life. I was a kid, hungry, impatient, and I blurted out something like “these people don’t even know how to use the machines, they’re too slow.” Not my proudest moment, but I was literally a minor. They were holding up the line and there are only two machines so obviously it was going to take a while, but when you are young and starving you do not have the patience you do as an adult.
Instead of ignoring me or maybe giving me a gentle comment, this woman turned around and went off on me. She snapped back saying something like “in fact we do know how to use a machine” with the rudest tone. I was not even trying to assume they didn’t, I was just hungry and impatient, but she was so rude and condescending about it. I think she was an Asian lady with a medium build and she had two daughters with her. She scolded me in front of everyone, made me cry, and I ended up running out of the Walmart while my parents saw the whole thing. She had no right to discipline another person’s child like that. She is a mother herself so she should know better, and the way she acted was completely unnecessary.
She gave full Karen behaviour. The tone, the attitude, the overreaction to a hungry kid’s impatience, all of it screamed Karen. It left me with such a bad impression that I have never forgotten it. As someone with anxiety, those kinds of embarrassing memories stick forever, and that was a terrible moment for me.
Of course I do apologize and I do feel bad now as an adult, but what she did was very wrong. I was a child who blurted out something in the heat of the moment and I admit that, but her reaction was cruel and completely out of place.
To be fair, I have been to this McDonald’s many times over the years as an adult and I have never had a problem since. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the other customers are usually fine. This was just that one incident that left a scar...
Read moreI was out grocery shopping on my way home after work and it was taking longer than I had anticipated. The hunger pangs reminded me that I hadn't eaten in a while and McDonald's was the closest, most convenient place to grab a bite.
The McDouble combo with Poutine and a drink filled my immediate needs without filling me up too much. The sandwich, with two burger patties and cheese was just the right size. The poutine, while not fantastic, was actually better than I had expected.
This was the right meal for the right time! 2020 Review
This McDonalds, located inside the WalMart at Steeles and Markham Road, is usually very busy. Today, I went in around 9:30am and the place was packed, mostly with Asians of all ages, a reflection of the neighbourhood.
Today, I ordered a coffee and one of their new donuts. The service was quick. I got my order before I put my change in my pocket!
The coffee was good, as usual, but the donut, a new item, left a lot to be desired. I decided to try an apple fritter, one of my favourites. Compared to Tim Hortons, the Canadian standard for donuts, this one was tiny, barely bigger than a TimBit and had the dense consistency of a bagel. Although the flavour was okay, the size and density are nothing like what I'm...
Read moreI love this location too! It is inside the Walmart and no drive thru. Plus, I am a regular customer. Every time I shop in the Walmart, I come out with a Junior chicken or McChicken in my hand. This was where I first tried Junior chicken and I am still continuing as it is tasty. They serve Yummy Junior chicken. I love them (burgers), Thank you:)
