We came in as a group of two and ordered the weekend summerlicious menu that came with appetizer, main, and dessert! The food was great, id rate that a 7.5/10! we had the shrimp shrimp pasta, potato curry udon, creme brule, cheesecake, and salmon tataki, and the king prawn. The pasta and udon were creamy and very flavourful, just wish they had more toppings!
As for service, we walked in after 1:30pm on a saturday so it was quite busy. We didn’t have a reservation, so we were good with the patio table. It started getting less busy inside, and we asked to move inside since it was really hot outside. And it was nice that the older woman waiter let us! she was nicee
But then it started feeling really rushed when another waiter came over when my partner went to the washroom, and asked if i was done with my main and needed the bill - at the time i didnt even finish my main yet, and the desserts hadnt even come yet… I told her i wasnt finished yet. And then a few moments later, another waiter proceeded to speed dump the two plates of dessert we ordered while i was still trying to eat my main… By the time my partner came back, the waiter came the third time and asked if i was done yet as an attempt to take my bowl. I said i was still working on it. Later, SHE CAME AGAIN and asked if i needed a box. Mind you, it was 3pm past rush hour - there were plenty of tables available at the time, and there was zero people waiting in line to come into the restaurant. there were a few tables eating and they didnt seem to be rushed at all. the moment we finished our food and dessert, the waiter brought us the bill. she proceeded to STAND RIGHT NEXT TO ME while i was thinking of what to tip them. i just felt so pressured and rushed.
id understand if its a rush during busy hours. but maam it was quieted down as hell, why are you rushing me to the point im about to choke on my food 😭 im sorry for wanting to move inside while there’s plenty of empty tables inside?? i honestly didnt feel like i did anything rude to yall to deserve this, i was just keeping my head down tryna eat… we didnt even ask for anything atrocious or bothered you guys. coz ive worked as a waiter before. i dont normally write about service, but this was so bad that i had anxiety. I FELT SO TARGETTED FOR IDK 😭😭😭 the foods good and i would wanna come back, but that asian girl waiter that rushed us is super passive aggressive that i dont want to anymore.
i would understand if youre a server for a HONG KONG CAFE, but its not so, idk whats...

If comfort food met a night out, it would look a lot like Menami Udon & Izakaya. This spot nails the balance between cozy noodles and lively izakaya energy, and it’s become one of those places that’s easy to recommend and even easier to revisit.
Must-Orders • Spicy Cream Seafood Udon A knockout bowl that’s rich, silky, and addictive without being heavy. The spice brings a warm kick that lifts the creamy sauce, while the seafood is tender and generous. The udon itself is perfectly chewy—exactly the bouncy texture that makes every slurp satisfying.
• Takoyaki Golden on the outside, custardy inside, with tender octopus and all the right toppings—bonito flakes, sauce, and mayo that melt together in the heat. It’s classic takoyaki done really well, and the portion’s great for sharing (or not).
• Pork Katsu Crisp panko crust with a juicy interior—no dryness, just clean crunch and savory pork. It’s the kind of katsu that stays crunchy even with sauce, which says everything about the technique.
Vibe & Service Casual and buzzing, with a friendly pace that works for date nights, group dinners, or a solo noodle mission at the bar. Dishes land hot and quick, and the staff keep the energy warm and efficient. Tips • Come hungry: portions are satisfying, especially the udon. • Pair the katsu with a light drink or a crisp beer to cut through the richness. • If spice is your thing, the spicy cream udon delivers without overpowering the seafood.
Bottom Line Menami Udon & Izakaya shines where it counts: chewy house-style udon, spot-on execution of izakaya classics, and a menu that’s both comforting and exciting. The spicy cream seafood udon and takoyaki are stars, and the pork katsu is an easy “don’t skip.” This is a go-to Toronto staple...
Read moreThis is a to go to spot for delicious Japanese fusion food for lunch, dinner or even for a quick snack. Inside at night is similar to a pub as the restaurant does get dimmer and there’s louder music playing, but in the morning, it’s much more relaxing with regular lights and music playing at regular volume. Their menu offers a great selection of food from tapas to mains to alcoholic drinks. All of these are very good shareables if you decide to come with a friend.
Overall time for all the food did not take long, roughly 10-15 minutes overall. The portions were fair for what you paid for, and everything tasted very good. We ordered: Corn Kakiage: A favorite appetizer that consists of battered corn that is deep fried together. It comes in 5 pcs and this is a highly recommended and popular dish to get and share. The corn is equally very tasty, crunchy, and goes well with the mayo that accompanies it. Oven Baked Udon: One of my favorite main as you get a big bowl of udon drenched in a good helping of cheese sauce with shrimp and bacon pieces as well. Definitely recommended for someone who likes their udon saucy. However I won’t recommend this dish to someone that is lactose intolerant. Tonkatsu Set: This is a great set as it comes wit a small bowl of udon in soup, vegetable and rice. The Katsu was nice and thin, and crispy at the same time. I liked the udon soup as it wasn’t too flavorful and accompanied the Katsu well.
As usual, I had a good satisfying meal here and will come back again soon for more...
