Food: 3 Stars Service: 4 Stars Ambience: 4 Stars Value: 3 Stars Overall: 3.5 Stars

I came to Michel's Bakery Café for brunch with my boyfriend, and we were pleasantly surprised by the improvements they've made. The new renovation looks great—definitely more modern and open, which gives the place a nice, fresh vibe that makes it much more enjoyable to be in. The updated decor and layout create a more inviting atmosphere, making it a much better spot to relax and enjoy a meal. This time around, the staff were much friendlier, which made our experience so much better compared to previous visits where the service was lacking.

We ordered a smoked salmon everything bagel and chicken sandwich and shared a pistachio croissant, and I have to say, the flavours were on point. The sandwiches were tasty and well-prepared, with fresh ingredients that made each bite satisfying. The pistachio croissant was particularly delicious—flaky, buttery, and packed with flavour—definitely worth a try if you're visiting. It was easily one of the highlights of our meal, and we would happily order it again.

It's clear that they've taken customer feedback seriously and made some much-needed changes, which is something I really appreciate. The effort they've put into improving both the atmosphere and the service is noticeable, and it definitely enhances the overall experience. While there is still some room for improvement, I think they're headed in the right direction, and I'm optimistic about the future. Overall, a solid 3.5 stars—definitely an improvement from before, and I look forward to seeing how they continue to evolve!

Food: 3 Stars Service: 2 Stars Ambience: 2 Stars Value: 2 Stars Overall: 2.25 Stars

I’ve been a regular at Michel Bakery for years, but my last visit the experience has been disappointing. While the food remains decent, the service quality has significantly declined.

The newer staff members are much friendlier and more accommodating than those who have been here for years. Unfortunately, the long-time staff have become increasingly rude. During my last visit, ordering a smoked salmon bagel felt like begging for toppings—it was absolutely absurd and ridiculous. This isn't the kind of service one expects, especially at these higher prices.

The price hikes are understandable to some extent, but they should come with a corresponding improvement in service, which sadly hasn't been the case. It's a real shame because this used to be one of my favourite spots.

Despite the decent food, the poor service and rising prices make it hard to recommend Michel Bakery anymore. I hope they address these issues soon to regain their former glory.

Update: Came back to give them a second chance and the sincerity of the owners response is appreciated and shows true customer service spirit. Not only did this person talk, this person took action too.

Customer service was a complete 180, I was greeted by an energetic happy and polite girl, she went the extra mile to ask if I wanted an end piece or middle piece, that really made an impression on me. The girl that was rude to me before, I could see her working on the drinks, she still kind of looks grumpy but I'd rather her continue staying back there than taking orders.

Pastry quality is top notch, a little pricey, 22 bucks for a pistachio, banana bread and ham and cheese but so far of all bakeries I've had that was the best pistachio croissant I've had and I'd come back for seconds. Ham and Cheese my partner inhaled that before I could ask for a second bite. The banana bread was good, moisture level was good, a little oily mouthfeel but good flavour.

On the weekend it's quite packed in there so good luck trying to get a seat or a quiet spot if you're sitting down there. But it's clean and well organized.

Yes they live up to top quality and solid customer service. Cheers 🥂

Old review: I hardly come to Yorkdale and happened to come across this flawed gem. Unfortunately as good as the pastries were, it could not overshadow the lasting sour attitude from the cashier. This Arab/latina looking lady looked to me asking what I would like, and I said I'd come back later and asked what time they close. She rolled her eyes didn't want to respond then few seconds later she responded giving me this dirty look.

Peach mango pastry was solid, chocolate croissant could use more chocolate in it and tasted old, and the hot cross buns was great.

I hope this kind of attitude is resolved, as I would like to visit again in the future. If not I'd rather not come here again, I don't support poor service even if the...

Absolutely disappointed with the service of Yorkdale’s Michel’s Bakery. I understand morning time there are less people but you still need to be efficient. Staff were extremely slow in preparing orders and their system in place right now is not working, something needs to be changed. My boyfriend and I ordered breakfast from them and were told that my boyfriend’s bacon grilled cheese would be a bit - no problem. This was around 10:10/10:15. We place the order for my bagel no problem. We go to the register to be told then that they are only taking cash because their machine is down. Why would we not be told that in advance?! My boyfriend and I both work in the mall and we were both late for work due to this incident; he was late approximately 20 minutes. That means they almost took an hour to make his food from when we placed it to actually getting it. Why would they not communicate this to the people making the food so they can tell us so there isn’t a pile up of customers and customers aren’t franticly looking for cash. I literally saw a customer having to ask another customer if she had $4 and take someone off her order just to buy her food. On top of that they forgot my boyfriend’s order and the customer after home ordered the SAME THING AND FOR HERS FIRST??!! This location just reopened and it already has so...

I'm glad I had a chance to visit Michel's Bakery in Yorkdale Mall and try out their soup, salad, and cake. From my experience, Michel's Bakery is a great spot to grab a quick bite to eat while shopping. Starting with the soup, I have to say that Michel's Bakery does a fantastic job of creating hearty and flavorful soups. They use high-quality ingredients and offer a wide variety of options, making it easy to find a soup that suits your taste buds. Whether you prefer a classic chicken noodle or something more adventurous like a spicy tomato bisque, Michel's Bakery has you covered. Moving on to the salad, I'm happy to report that the ingredients were fresh and the portions were generous. I appreciate that they offer a good mix of greens and other vegetables. Last but not least, the cake. Michel's Bakery is known for their decadent desserts, and it's easy to see why. The cake is always moist and rich, with a variety of flavors to choose from. I'm personally a fan of the chocolate cake, which is perfectly indulgent without being overly sweet. Overall, I highly recommend Michel's Bakery in Yorkdale Mall for anyone looking for a quick and satisfying meal. The soup, salad, and cake are all top-notch, and the prices are reasonable given the high quality of the food. Don't hesitate to stop by next time you're in the mall!

Two stars is... Optimistic at best. Service - confusing! This was my first time visiting, and I wanted a sandwich. There was no guidance of where to go, who to talk to, or who would prepare my food. I lined up, got passed between three different people before putting in my order. When I did so, I asked for it to go - but was given a plate. For a packed seating area, this was not good. I'd strongly recommend a redesign of the serving area for food. The workers were nice and helpful when I was confused. Two stars. Ingredients - top notch. Excellent quality. Five stars. The actual food - I ordered a bacon / cheese / tomato sandwich. They forgot the tomato. It came with a side of a lettuce leaf, pickle, and slice of orange. It was alright. Presentation was atrocious. Paper plates? Seriously? This isn't some roadside food truck. One star. Value for money - now, this may be a partly my fault for not knowing ahead of time what a bacon / cheese / tomato sandwich is but... Given the other promotional pictures under that section, I was expecting far more than what I was served. If I want a mediocre grilled cheese, I'd visit the Tim Hortons. If I want to spend 11 bucks on a sandwich for lunch, I'm going to Subway next time. One star.
