For so long I’ve wanted to have Sushi zipped to my table and after searching for a place I found Tora and it certainly gives you that experience.

The service on my visit was amazing and there is no complaints there. Servers are nice, respectful, and attentive. Wait time for the sushi to come out was fairly quick while some dishes took a bit longer but not too long to complain.

The food was mostly good but some dishes are leagues better than others. The Classic Oshi set was great with the Ebi oshi being the star of the three in my opinion. The Aburi Onagi sushi was by far the star of the night for me with its amazing flavour. The Aburi Red prawn was good, but nothing fantastic. By far the worst for me was the Aburi Squid that I found to not have much flavour and left much to be desired with the texture. The Ebi Fritters were amazing and had a perfect crunch to them with a well cooked shrimp inside. The Aburi California Rolls were the best of all the rolls we tried by far, the rice is seemingly already infused with some soy sauce which does add to the flavour but seems to weaken the rice making the rolls fall apart easily sometimes. The Tora roll and spicy prawn rolls were also tasty and seemed fresh. The Virgin Lychee sangria and Virgin white grape pomegranate cocktails were very tasty with the Lychee beating out the pomegranate for me. They had a perfect mix of sweet and fruity taste profiles and I’d absolutely recommend giving them a try.

Despite the good experience and the generally tasty food, I found myself slightly disappointed with the lacklustre selection of Sushi Rolls. I assume the Aburi is their main focus on the menu but I would’ve hoped for some more options. I also do not think this is the best sushi out there, while tasty, I certainly would not come back for anything else but the conveyor style experience compared to several other sushi places I regularly visit. While the experience is good, I don’t think it would even crack my Top 5 list of sushi restaurants based on taste alone.

If you’re looking for an experience you will certainly get that here but in terms of taste and variety of sushi you may find yourself...

I’m sorry but I’m giving this one star review with tears. This used to be my favourite restaurant, my husband and I came almost every week since 2019, and we had a lot of important dates celebrated here. We didn’t come last year as we had our second baby. We were here again this year for Mother’s Day. We arrived when they just opened , so they were not busy at all. After we sit, I realize my boys (3yrs old ) booster seat is not safe for him . We asked for help but nobody came , so my husband went to grab another high chair for him. However when we order, all of sudden my boy was screaming, the highchair has some safety issues, the tray flipped over and hit on his front teeth. The teeth starts bleeding like crazy and he was crying, I couldn’t see what’s going on inside of his mouth as it was blood all over. I asked for help again, the waiter came and I said I need some ice cream please to stop the bleeding. I asked for ice cream again in another five minutes but there were so many waitresses passed by here and three , busy with their customers but nobody care abt my kid who was injured at their restaurant by their highchair!!!!!! I gave my kid some water and finally the blood almost stopped, I cried and ask loudly again for the ice cream. It was abt 10 minutes already since it happened, and I asked for three times for the ice cream . Another 2 minute’s later I guess after I cried, the ice cream is here. really? Is this how you treat your customer ? You should make sure you high hair doesn’t have safety issues, and you should at least show us you care when my kids mouth is full of blood! They were busy greeting with other customers, fill waters but no one can pass us an ice cream to fix my kids bleeding teeth. I took him to the dentist after But I can’t even write this down until one month later, as I feel so sad even when I'm writing it right now . Definitely not...

Great experience here. The entrance is a bit hidden but you should definitely give it a try. The doors are right next to the exit near sportslife. You’ll have to enter then take the elevator upstairs. Second floor has these big windows, the environment was relaxing and fancy. They space you out so theres always a booth between different parties. Service was great, staff were passionate and approachable, shoutout to William?!? for explaining how does the resto work. Food is ordered thru the ipad and delivered thru those tracks( dk how to describe it, shown in the pics next to ipad) to avoid human contact. Drink menu can be accessed by scanning the QR code. Food quality was exceptional, especially for the price. One thing I would’ve wanted was for the rice to be more dense. My friend and I had a few sushi falling apart while picking it up. The scollops I had were soo sweet and everything was fresh. Flavour wise, it was the perfect balance for the aburi, considering when sauces are involved. Condiments were packaged( tho I prefer fresh wasabi packaged, I have no complains for covid measurements) Would 10/10 recommend to fam and friends!

update 2022 Oct 28th —- 4 stars Unfortunately I have noticed an increase in price and decline in food quality. It is still decent but everytime I come in here the prices were increased….. for example, the portion for uni and salmon roe in the dons and nigiri is less now, and the udon looked like 1/5 of a normal sized udon. Udon is basically starch like rice and grains…. Yet they are reducing the sizes….I get inflation, and that its supposed to be light eats…. when the price keeps going up but the quality declines…. You might want to get sushi from other places that charges less, but are able to sustain the food portion...

Some friends from work treated me to this wonderful upscale eatery located at Yorkdale Mall for my birthday! How refreshing it was to go to a new place that was very unique and different! I was tired of going to our same old haunts in Toronto and eating the same old foods. Our adventure began when we walked through the entrance to an elevator that took us to the upper level dining room. Our friendly server greeted us and took us to our seats where he explained how our dining experience would work. We would order our dishes a la carte using a tablet and when they were ready, the plates would be whisked to us like magic on a conveyer belt. So much fun!! The quality of the food was excellent which was not surprising as the restaurant originated from Tokyo, Japan and many of the dishes were created in collaboration with a Michelin chef. We all thought it was the best sushi we had ever had! So fresh and bursting with flavour! There were a lot of different things to choose from, but if you're not careful, you can easily rack up a huge bill! It would be nice if they would show you a running total as you order each item so that you would know how much you were spending. I suppose you could add the amounts up on a calculator as you went along, but that would ruin all the fun!! 😆 The Aburi/Torched style sushi was the most delicious!! Loved the ambiance and the creative innovation! Highly recommend going here on a special occasion ... or even if you just want to try something out of the norm with your friends. 😊👍💜 Added note: One thing to mention is that they do not take reservations, so there's a risk of a long wait ... or not getting in at all. 😔

Sushi quality and freshness were awesome. Service was okay not great. The conveyor belt sushi delivery system was cool :) Presentation on some dishes we ordered were odd or messy. For example, in the ‘Shiromi Shio Lemon Trio’ sushi dish it was very odd to have the lemon slice be bigger than the sushi itself (see picture). Would recommend the following dishes: Aburi Salmon Toro - Really good salmon toro. Aburi Oshi Sushi series (Signature Oshi Trio, Aburi Salmon Oshi, Aburi Ebi Oshi) - Aburi Oshi sushi were awesome with mouth watering umami flavour. Ebi Fritters - Deep fried shrimp was awesome and full of flavour :) Shiromi Shio Lemon Trio (Japanese Red Sea Bream, Flounder, and Amberjack) - the salt sprinkles and lemon made the sushi smooth and delicious. Our favourites were the Aburi Salmon and Ebi Oshi sushi, and Ebi fritters :) We also tried these other dishes but they were either meh or misses: Tuna Tataki Salad - Tuna was fresh. Sauce was interesting. But it felt it was missing something. Sea Urchin Gunkan - this was a miss, sea urchin was more on the bitter side than being on that sweet, salty, umami flavour profile. It was disappointing :( Red Tuna Sashimi - tuna sashimi was fresh with good texture but felt it missed something. Tuna Katsu - Deep fried tuna was nice, flaky, moist on the inside but could be a bit more crunchy on the outside. Beef Sukiyaki - Beef was overcooked became tough. Veggies (carrot, potato and mushroom, onions) were good. Sauce was savoury. Soft boiled egg was good. It would have been nice if this dish came with a spoon. We had to ask for one since it was difficult picking up the soft boiled egg with chop sticks.
