Unfortunately we will not be returning. I would rate at 2.5 stars, flat down the middle. The final time we went was in February, 2018.
I have been a regular here for 8-9 years. I used to LOVE it- ask any of my friends! The soups are almost always vegan and just so beautifully-made, so good; they have sourdough bread (one of the only places in the city that seems to offer this); they use olive oil to spread on their toast (rather than butter or margarine); incredibly delicious salad dressing (HIGHLY highly addictive); they have SOY MILK (vegan or non-dairy milk option for latte); food came out quickly; everything was always VERY fresh and wholesome; and the PORTIONS were VERY GENEROUS. Lots of vegan fare.
HOWEVER. Over the last year or so, every single time we came, they would make errors with our orders (it seemed the servers weren't listening or just didn't care anymore), the food was inconsistent and varied depending on who was working that day, the portions got about 30% smaller overall (that's a HUGE difference), and the prices were increased.
It's totally fine to increase your prices, I get it, I wasn't born yesterday. I know this is inevitable, especially these days in a major metropolitan city such as Toronto. HOWEVER. Increased prices coupled with REDUCED PORTIONS and REDUCED QUALITY of ingredients is unacceptable. If you're going to increase prices or keep the prices the same, either way the food should be standard across the board. The portions should never change. Charge us more, but don't give us less for more. You follow?
Due to location, this place doesn't need to care too much about its regulars or our opinions, because they will still meet their bottom line. And that was their thinking. But I am a regular who used to go there on a weekly basis, sometimes multiple times a week (yes, I spent good money there!), and it was always our go-to when we visited the Danforth to shop at the Carrot or just to hang out. Not anymore. I am the kind of person who votes with their dollar and the last time we went, we were thoroughly ripped off, my voiced concerns were not addressed when I expressed them that day, and we were still hungry.
Sad, really sad. Good luck, Mocha Mocha. I will dream forever of what you...
Read moreIt’s always a pleasure to enjoy a meal in a thoughtfully curated space like Mocha Mocha, where the food and atmosphere are clearly given great attention. However, I find myself perplexed by a seemingly overlooked yet critical detail—the presence of strong perfumes and body sprays worn by the very people preparing and serving the food.
If I can smell these scents lingering in the air, it means their chemical particles are not only inhaled but also settling onto the food itself. This raises an important question: If we wouldn’t accept a chef smoking a cigarette while preparing our meal, why do we accept the presence of airborne chemicals from scented products in a food service setting?
I’ve taken this concern to Canada’s Minister of Health, Mark Holland, who affirmed that all workplaces should be fragrance-free or actively working toward that goal. The reasoning is clear: airborne chemicals from fragrances, much like secondhand smoke, pose potential health risks. Restaurants, especially those that promote healthy eating, should be held to an even higher standard in protecting the integrity of the dining experience.
Many of us are meticulous about the quality of the food we consume and the purity of the water we drink, yet we often overlook the most immediate and essential factor—air quality. The presence of artificial fragrances in a place designed to nourish and sustain us feels like a contradiction.
Mocha Mocha has already established itself as a place that values quality and well-being. I hope they will take the next logical step and implement a fragrance-free policy for their staff, ensuring that the health-conscious principles they uphold extend to every aspect of the dining...
Read moreI must start by saying we usually really enjoy our experience here. Today was not a great experience. We ordered a couple of turkey club sandwichs with no Tomato and a grilled cheese for a child. The turkey club arrived at the table with Tomatoes and when we informed them about the mix up the woman stated no lettuce and argued three times to my partner about this point before finally taking them back and fixing it. The kids Grilled cheese came out on a plate with coleslaw that was drenched in dressing and had made the sandwich very soggy and inedible. My partner had to use two now soaked napkins to try and wipe up the dressing but it was too late. We asked for another as our kid wouldn't eat it. They said we would probably have to pay for another but didn't end up charging us but he still couldn't eat it as they used Swiss cheese for a kids Grilled cheese sandwich (not Cheddar) 😳 I asked for a refill of my coffee and was told I would have to go and order and pay for another one at the cash? Being a restaurant owner myself I tried to have a conversation with the owner to let him no about the short comings of our experience (I didn't want money back) but he continued to work and avoided the feedback that I personally find so valuable to fixing problems. For that reason I'm leaving this review. If only he'd taken the two minutes to chat then this review would have never...
