Swiss Chalet — Restaurant in Toronto

UPDATE: Manager Andrew of the Kingsway Swiss Chalet was very apologetic for the bad meal we experienced and couldn't apologize enough. He invited us to return and have a meal on him. He was lovely on the phone and in person. We went tonight and had our two meals compliments of Andrew including a piece of the best coconut cream pie in town to share. Andrew came by our table, shook our hands and extended a warm welcome and checked later, and upon our leaving, that the meal was satisfactory. The serving staffer was a wonderful young woman who also made sure all was good. Both Andrew and this young woman, represent their company well and I hope Andrew, in particular, has a bright future with Swiss Chalet!

Bad meal. Ugh. My annual Swiss Chalet birthday dinner at 2955 Bloor St. W.

Meals arrived at the table ice cold. I’m talking out of the fridge COLD. Beans, mashed potatoes and chicken - cold. After being told, our wait staffer took our plates away and placed them in the microwave for 2 minutes. We believed that would be the fix. But the food returned, only lukewarm. We ate our chicken 1) we were starved and 2) you can eat chicken at any temperature. Took a few bites of mashed potatoes and left the beans. Our server returned to see how the meal was. We told her it was all but inedible. I said since it’s my birthday, and I will receive a free dessert, just as we had here for my husbands birthday two weeks before, I would like a dessert for each of us. If she needed to speak to her manager first, I would absolutely speak to them. But if she agreed and just wanted to bring 2 desserts, that would be fine too. We told her repeatedly, this was not her fault and we didn’t want to create trouble for her if the manager was included. She said she’d speak to her manager. We sat there for awhile. I finally said to my husband, “I guess the manager isn’t interested in speaking to us. This is just bad customer relations. It’s so easy to fix these small incidents but so many just don’t even try.” Our server brought the two desserts I said, “Your manager didn’t want to speak to us?” She said, “He said, do you want me to speak to them? She told him, no I can handle it myself.” Good grief people! This is the manager’s job! You comp a lousy meal. You give them a couple of desserts for having a miserable birthday dinner. It’s not about the damn food! The manger, in these cases, is there to apologize on behalf of the restaurant, make their customers feel appreciated, important for the success of the business, and, if all’s well and ends well, makes for a desire to return.

So simple. But...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Swiss Chalet and I wanted to take a moment to commend one of their exceptional waitresses, Flora. Her outstanding service truly made my dining experience phenomenal.
