I donât like to write negative reviews but I guess I owe it to the other people who want to know what this place is like.
Starting with the good stuff: the food was mostly fine (great whipped cream, French toast, pancakes and bacon were fine) and there was a DJ who was very nice to kids in the restaurant and showed them how his set-up worked. On the rare occasions that staff spoke to me, they were generally nice.
The bad stuff: when we arrived, there was no one else waiting to be seated but none of the (many) staff at the front desk acknowledged our existence for several minutes, despite standing right in front of them. I asked a guy if we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. He said we would be seated shortly and then walked out of the building. No one else acknowledged our existence. A few minutes later I asked someone else if we could be seated. She seemed baffled that no one else was helping us but led us to a table wedged beside a serving station.
Our (very nice) waitress brought us the wrong food, apologized when she realized she had the kitchen make the wrong food, and then asked if I wanted them to remake things so that we could get what we had ordered. We said no (one of the kids was pleased to have French toast instead of pancakes and we didnât want everyone to wait to eat). A different server put a plate of another tableâs food in front of me before taking it away when I said I didnât order that. Coffee was fine. No one offered to refresh or refill it.
Donât order the fresh fruit. (Itâs a few grapes, a sad slice of pineapple, a strawberry, a half kiwi cut at a strange angle with the skin still on, and a tiny slice of apple in a vaguely interesting geometric cut.)
After we were finished, I asked the person who cleared the plates for the bill. 20 minutes passed. No bill. I went to the front to pay. Tipping options start at 20%. No one seemed fussed that the bill had not been brought to the table. Brunch for one adult and two kids was $66 with tax before tip. No offer to comp the wrong food they brought.
If you are a Gen Z looking for a vaguely party brunch atmosphere and donât mind overpaying for ok food with bad service, I guess itâs fine.
Maybe they were having an off...
Read moreAfter hearing so much about OEB Breakfast Co., a friend and I finally made it in for weekend brunch. We lucked out with a table thanks to the rainy weather. Normally itâs tough to snag a spot without a wait. We got there just before noon, and sure enough, by the time we were seated, a line had already formed. Clearly, this place is popular for a reason.
The space is full of charm. There are playful egg and brunch-themed details everywhere, including the egg-shaped booth we sat in, and colourful chalk illustrations that add a fun, whimsical feel. The crowd was a great mix of families, couples, and groups of friends, which gave the place a lively but welcoming vibe.
We kicked things off with two non-alcoholic drinks: the pomegranate nojito and the pineapple grapefruit oasis. Itâs refreshing to see restaurants offering more thoughtful alcohol-free options, and both of these were light and not overly sweet.
For food, we shared the gnocchi carbonara (I donât usually go for gnocchi, but I couldnât resist the carbonara), the short rib poutine with potato wedges, the Notorious B.I.G. burger, and the Baked Apple Griddle Stack pancakes. Lucas, our server, was super helpful and suggested going with waffle fries for the burger instead of repeating the wedges - great call. Everything was well-prepared, but the burger and pancakes were the highlights. The burgerâs milk bun was soft and rich, and the pancakes were incredibly fluffy and flavourful.
The portions were huge, so we were glad we showed up hungry. The service was also worth mentioning: the team was attentive and friendly, with manager Hadrian even stopping by our table to check in. Plates were cleared quickly and water glasses were always full.
All in all, OEB lives up to the hype. Delicious food, thoughtful service, and a fun atmosphere. Highly recommended if youâre craving a...
Read moreI have seen many people post about OEB for a while. They were so pretty and I thought that I needed to check this place out one day. Here we come!
My friend, Christine asked me to join her for breakfast. We had two savoury dishes, Canadian Lobster & Shrimp Crepe and Holy Crab. We also grabbed a cup of latte and cappuccino. We planned to get a green smoothie but it was a bit chilly inside their dining room.
We went there early in the morning on a weekday. They were quite busy already at the time. We then talked about how crazy busy they will be on weekends!
The dining room was clean and clear. I love how they decorated the place. Itâs also nice to see an open kitchen concept! They have two booths available at the end of the restaurant too. Maybe if you make a reservation and specifically ask for it, they might give it to you! Theyâre pretty! We didnât sit there because they were taken haha.
If youâre a fan of brunch, you will love it here. They have a wide variety of breakfast and brunch, both of savoury & sweet dishes. You can have coffee, smoothies or mimosa with your food. Isnât it a great idea?
Our dishes were good but we couldnât finish them. The Lobster crepe was a bit more salty. Maybe it was because they were filled with lots of cheese đ§đ§đ§đ§. It was ok though. Now, if youâre a fan or cheese, you will fall in love with it.
Make sure to make a reservation ahead of time if you plan to come on weekends!
