A buddy of mine chose this place strictly from the pictures he saw online so to say we didn't know what to expect is a bit of an understatement. Thankfully the food here didn't disappoint so he can choose where we eat again next time.
The first thing you'll notice when you step into the restaurant is that it is fairly small. The tables were pretty small and close to each other so it did feel a bit uncomfortable at times.
In terms of food options, the only items I really paid any attention to were the skewers and the big meat bowl. You basically order the soup base and the meat to add to it, then you go to the refrigerator and choose the rest of the ingredients to go into your bowl which is then weighed. Not knowing how spicy things were I believe we chose the medium spicy option just in case. Spoiler alert it wasn't that spicy. Overall the soup and ingredients tasted pretty good and definitely filling if you are hungry. We also ordered the chicken and beef skewers just to try them out. They were both surprisingly good with a nice crispy, well seasoned outside and soft juicy inside. I think my favourite overall had to be the chicken skewers. Oh and one more thing, it's bottomless soy milk. Enough said.
In terms of service, the server was very polite and kept checking in on us and made sure we were good. There was a minor thing that annoyed us so I'm knocking the score for service down a bit.
This was an interesting experience and I definitely recommend trying it at least once. I am definitely open to coming back here in the future if I happen to be in the area looking for...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant for its high score of 4.7 points. After finishing the meal, the only feeling in our minds was that such a high score was well deserved. We ordered Weighted Boiled Meat, Sliced Pork, Jumbo Chicken, Original Sausage, Rice Cake, and Chicken Cartilage. The best one was Chicken Cartilage, which was baked crispy on the outside. With the chicken fat and seasoning, it was as refreshing as eating Ferrero Rocher chocolate. The baking method of Rice Cake should be the same as that of Chicken Cartilage, forming a texture like the crispy French fries, but the inside was so soft and elastic, and the taste of the two mixed together was amazing. Of course, the signature dish of the restaurant, Weighted Boiled Meat, was still very good and praised by us, but if you wanted to compare, its taste was very consistent with that in China, and the taste was very good, but it was not as distinctive as the previous two, which made us intoxicated...
Read moreI really wanted to like it a lot as I had this same exact dish (Malatang) in China. I asked for a bit spicy and the spiciness was over the top, in fact it was so spicy I could not even have one spoon. I also asked for low oil and the whole thing was soaking in oil. I was unable to eat it and very disappointed in regards to the whole experience, as like I mentioned I had the same exact dish in China and asked for a bit spicy and the spiciness was just right and tasted super great and healthy. While I was in China that was my favourite dish and now because of this experience I don’t think I can look at it the same. Very disappointed. I’m honestly so surprised how the rating is so high or if they purposely added so much oil in mine, all I could taste was oil and spiciness, it was so oily just with eating one vegetable the oil was smothering my entire lips I ended up throwing it away. They should give me a refund! I’m never...
