This is from our visit to this fast food joint in downtown Toronto in April 2024 - as it was one of the options close to the hotel. We wanted to grab a quick lunch and initially ordered just 2 dishes: falafel wrap and falafel salad. But the elderly lady assembling our salad convinced us to get dolmas - we got 2 pieces. In addition, we ended up getting French fries, Ayran (Elegant brand), Baklava and of course water. All dishes were served in disposable containers and we got plastic cutlery.
The falafel wrap and salad were ok. While I expected the falafel and fries to be fried in (inflammatory) vegetable oil, what surprised me was that the Ayran had potassium sorbate as preservative and the baklava was made with vegetable oils & vegetable ghee which is almost fully transfat and very unhealthy & tasted pretty disgusting. She would not let me read the ingredients before hand.
Overall this place sells unhealthy, low quality food although the food tastes ok for the most part. I am ok with that, as you cannot expect top quality food from a fast good joint. But what really got me was, she gave herself a hefty tip of 20%, without consulting me first. Additionally, we were told to dispose the trash ourselves.
Later, I also noticed 2 additional charges: 2 x Extra falafel and Extra topping. I still dont know what the extra topping was. I have attached a picture of my receipt. The elderly lady is a sweet talking but a cunning upselling con woman. I did not challenge her or pick a fight. She clearly knew she was dealing with visitors and took advantage of...
Read moreThis shawarma place was one of the highest rated shawarma restaurants in downtown, so I was excited to give it a try. I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap and the beef shawarma on rice. The beef shawarma on rice is a good value, it's less than $10 but it's enough to be a full meal for one person.
The chicken shawarma had good flavours, and the toppings were fresh enough, but I thought the chicken they used probably had been sitting out for way too long. There were crusty and tough bits that were hard to chew and indicative of something that's been cooked long time ago. I found the same issue with the beef shawarma on rice. The rice itself was good, and the potato was delicious and flavourful, but the beef was way too salty and chewy. It definitely tasted like it had been too long since it was cooked. I get that businesses are under a lot of pressure with inflation, but neither the chicken nor the beef should have been served, given the conditions they were in. They were hard to chew and just too salty and unpleasant to eat.
I'm pretty disappointed as I've been on the lookout for a good shawarma place for such a long time. Unfortunately, this isn't one. The meat they use for their wraps and their rice dishes are just not fresh. For what it's worth, however, the prices at this restaurant are much more affordable than other Shawarma places I've been to, which is why I'm giving it a 3 and not a 2. With that said, I probably won't come back to this place and I will not be recommending it to...
Read moreA clean little place with a few tables to dine at. I went in for the Falafel wrap, and boy, am I happy I did. Firstly, I was greeted with a beautiful smile by a lovely lady who worked there (I was there on Saturday, January 7th, 2023, at 11:30 am). She was friendly, professional, polite, knowledgeable of the products, and very quick. It seemed that the regulars knew her and loved her! Let me tell you, it was busy, she was working on her own but she somehow managed to serve us quickly and efficiently, watching her work was amazing, great job! This lady needs a huge raise!! Now, for the food, it was really good. I had the Falafel. They were made on the spot, they were crispy but not greasy, and they were tasty. The wrap was filled with incredibly fresh and tasty veggies and very tasty sauces; it was really, really good. One tip, order the premium Falafel for a dollar more so you can take advantage of all the great veggie toppings including the fried eggplant, tzatziki, tabouli and feta cheese, it's worth the extra dollar. Otherwise, the classic wrap only includes the Falafel, the usual veggies toppings, and sauce. Overall, I had a great experience here. The food and the customer service are top-notch! I'll definitely be...
