Before starting our order, we told Tony (our waiter) that we were new to Italian food and asked him for help with the order. We were in the mood for pasta but wanted to give the famous Italian tomato sauce a try so we asked if one of the pasta dishes could be tweaked as such (pesto sauce replace with tomato sauce). Tony said it could be done.
When the pasta arrived, we didn't much like it. We loved the other dishes, without a doubt. We talked to Tony about it, but we set off on an apologetic tone saying how it was our fault for changing the dish, and asked if he could do anything about it. He replied we could 'order' (pay full price again for) the original dish and have that instead. No offers of replacement.
When paying the bill, a lady (manager?) arrived and talked to us about it. We were happy to have another person listen to us, but it turned out to be a lecture with a plastered smile. She told us how one must sometimes stick to the original recipe and how they are not a fast food italian joint (didn't we know that already?). I'm not even sure how the fast-food remark makes any sense. It felt like they were annoyed by our feedback.
Sometimes, we feel we're too nice for our own good. We went out of the way to apologize for changing the dish, asked if something could be done, all while clearly stating at the very beginning that we were new to Italian food.
All that was needed was Tony telling us , during order time, NOT to change dish ingredients / sauces and to stick to the original.
Or, an offer to reduce the bill a couple of dollars would have been real nice. For all we know, we'd probably still have paid full price anyway.
And oh yeah, this IS a fine-dine restaurant and feedback is generally welcome at decent restaurants. I wouldn't even have bothered to ask if this was a fast-food Italian place.
Just proves that niceness continues to fail me in Toronto. You do not even need to "argue" to annoy others. It seems that even the most polite of conversations can trigger people off on a rant.
This was our second visit to Pizzera Oro di Napoli. We love the food, and our waiter the first time was beyond excellent. We probably won't, however,...
Read moreMy wife recently took us to this pizza place by Lakeshore Blvd West in Etobicoke and it sure was worth the drive from Milton.
For starters, we ordered the Calamari Fritti (fried) which was served with horseradish aioli. I highly recommend this starter as the calamari they serve is fresh and melts in your mouth. The horseradish aioli was refreshing and subtle. We paired this starter with their house Caesar salad. Their version included housemade crispy prosciutto, parmigiano-reggiano and some herbed croutons. The prosciutto and parmigiano-reggiano made this dish very delicious and oh so tasty….truly a must have.
For main, we ordered the Tonnarelli del Tirreno (seafood pasta), the Bufalina & Pesante pizza. You will not believe the service size for the pasta. First the pasta…..smothered with crushed San Marzano tomatoes in white wine, topped with juicy scallops, P.E.I. mussel, plum shrimps and fresh calamari. The taste is heavenly and if you are a seafood lover….this is definitely the pasta for you. Onto the pizza….the Buffalina is just generous…..huge patches of buffalo mozzarella, topped with prosciutto di Parma, tons of fresh arugula, charred tomatoes with basil and garlic. This is a 12 inch pizza which is good for 2 or 3 people. If you prefer pizza without the prosciutto or meat, go for the Pesante. This pizza is full of flavor….simply because the black truffle paste just compliments the 4 cheeses that it came with…..fior di latte, asiago, pecorino romano and grana Padano. This alone would have been a good serving for 2 people.
The ambience is nice, friendly and smiling staff, prompt service and generous servings. 5 out of 5 stars for me….super & highly...
Read moreAwesome hidden gem place for Pizza and Pasta, their food is delicious, and the place is very cute. Great and friendly service, and the food is very authentic. I visited Italy a month ago, and when I eat here, I feel I am transported back. I love love their Cacio e Pepe pasta and the Diavola pizza, but everything else I tried was also so tasty. Highly recommended for a date night, or family dinner, or just a tasty dinner out.
As a side note....I had an issue with a large UberEats order that I placed when we had some family from out of town. I ordered from here, and UberEats took almost one hour and half to deliver, when I live a couple blocks away. By the time they actually delivered, the food was very cold, not just not warm, but actually cold. I called UberEats and they refused to acknolwedge this being an issue (I ordered 6 dishes, all were very cold), or do anything, and kept sending me a generic email to review them. I was finally fed up with UberEats and I called the restaurant to let them know the lack of customer service from UberEats.
Tony was very receptive to my feedback and lovely to deal with. He apologized for it, even though it was not their fault, and explained that sometimes order are completed by them but they sit there for a while, and then the drivers pick up too many at once for them to be delivered in a timely manner. I was not expecting much, but he let me know when we come back to eat in the restaurant, he'll offer us something on the house, which was not needed, but greatly appreciated.
Lesson learned - don't bother ordering, and eat in the restautant, it is much...
