We were in the neighbourhood and stumbled upon this restaurant as we were driving by. It was almost 4pm on a Saturday and we hadn’t had lunch. Thought of going for a quick meal. Some tables still occupied, but we were seated right away.

Ordered a Vegetarian Manchurian and a Vegetarian Fried Rice. The server asked us if we needed the gravy from Manchurian separate. Which we were surprised that an option was available eating in the restaurant. We didn’t take it though.

The food took a bit longer for some reason to come to the table.

The Manchurian were bigger veggie balls than we were used too. The gravy was good, however the balls had a flavour that didn’t go well. Some spice used in the ball was not normal, perhaps a Chinese 5 spice blend or Indian Garam Masala. Regardless the taste didn’t go well with the gravy. The rice was OK as well. What we didn’t like was the mushrooms were canned (why?). So many fresh and reasonably priced available.

The other downer was there is a 10% service charge imposed! For the three of us. When asked they mentioned it was policy. No signs on menu or on the door or inside that I could see. Well if they sneak this , as a matter of my policy I left them no extra tips. I normally leave 15% or so in most cases where the service is normal. But to sneak this in.

They also lost a star in the rating...

one of the worst restaurant & worst experience with this restaurant staff who was there on that point, so rude! No manners! No respect! Worst service! They don’t know how to treat customers. Normally, I don’t like to write a review but this incident got me so upset, me & my friend was ordering food to takeout but we were in rush to go back to college so suddenly we planned to eat it there. We started to eat our lunch and it was not busy, all empty table so we ate at one table. When we started eating one guy came & no humble words he started yelling us why are you ladies eating here you guys said takeout if everyone eat here our restaurant going to upside down šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø so we said we don’t know that so sorry & then he left & he started yelling the lady who was gave the food. She came and said while we were eating can you stop right now you can’t eat here. She was angry. We were like why are they saying to us we ordered with them not any outside food also we didn’t make any mess or noise not even 2-3 minutes then we pack the food & left from there there. Their behaviour got us so upset, we were just eating at their restaurant & their food. Such bad customer service. As you can see from my history I don’t put bad reviews and if this is one than you should...

Better than your average neighbourhood Hakka spot. The small spot does bustling business on the takeout side, Another option is simply ordering a few dishes ala carte and dining inside, service was friendly, accommodating and prompt. Could absolutely get in and out within an lunchhour break with friends from the Office. They do have a series of set Lunch specials but Royal amazingly still has $8.50 items on the menu; including standout Spicy fried Squid. We ordered Ginger Beef, Manchurian Chicken with fresh green chilli and Shrimp and eggplant. Plus fried rice and Noodles and bokchoy. Refreshingly, flavors from these popularized 'usual suspects' were not muddled nor lost, which I have found at many of the Hakka spots of in its price range. The Chinese owners grew up in India, she really has a subtle uniqueness and authentic taste to her dishes. Well worth the trip.

2023 April 3.5ā˜… While an odd location, this restaurant is fairly busy. Being here for over 12+ years as of writing, this restaurant has a lot of take out orders. They do have some tables for dine in for about 24 persons. Fish Pakora 14.95 Light and crispy with spicy green peppers and good portion of fish. A good choice. Hakka Chow Mein 11.95 While this did have "é‘Šę°£" which is a cauldron style cooking, the dish was just ok. There are better noodle options here. Chilli Chicken 12.95 As the name suggests, chicken glazed with a savory chili sauce. Pretty good. Crispy Chicken (half) 11.95 A red crispy fried chicken. Not bad, chicken wasn't too dry. Though nothing amazing. Overall, it's not bad. Portions are fairly good. The prices are reasonable. Staff are nice. Atmosphere is dim, seems grungy because of the lighting and colors.
