After aborting the restaurant next door “Bengali Sweets”, I decided to try this Indian joint in Scarborough out and must say at first it was disturbing having to wait 25 minutes for a Thali. The restaurant opens at 11am but it was more closer to 12 noon when they had the “Hot Table” ready. The overall execution had to be fairly big in order to consider bettering my review on this establishment and for the most part I will respectfully say this has been conquered. Reasonable prices, everything in my “Thali” was piping hot and fresh. The roti was fresh as well but must say there is room for improvement . But at least it didn’t taste store bought. Only option for Sweet was “Galub Jalum”. My two pieces of advice would be to either open later or have the Hot table ready earlier so patrons don’t have to wait a long period of time. Secondly as I mentioned the roti does need to improve as I found it more to be on the denser side of the spectrum instead of the “Airy” side. I prefer the light and fluffy type. Besides all I’ve mentioned, Great job and this place is definitely worth a try. Stay clear of the place next door...
Read moreYesterday we picked up catering food for our guests. I drove from ajax to Scarborough in hope that food will be of good quality, but when we served the food to our guests, we were disheartened with the quality. The Karahi paneer was sour, the paneer pieces were so thick and hard like rock. It was worst karahi paneer, we have ever experienced. The kadhi pakora was terrible too and the daal makhni was equally bad with so much water and no taste. Our guests were disappointed, this kind of food is not good for health either. The restaurant is so busy that guys working on the front they don’t care about customer service, for them it seems that they are doing free service to customers and were rude when I called them asking to talk to the owner. This is deem to happen in business when owner, is not involved in day to-today operations and they are not willing to listen to customer issues and have a “we don’t care attitude”. I hope the owner will spare time in reading this review with open mind. For us we are done, we are not going back to this restaurant and will not recommend our...
Read moreGrowing up in Scarborough, A1 Sweets was a staple in my childhood. My family and I would often visit, and it quickly became one of our favourite spots for flavour, comforting Indian food.
We frequently ordered the thalis, and the curries were always prepared so exquisitely—rich in flavor and incredibly satisfying. To this day, I still find myself going back just to enjoy my two all-time favourites: the Malai Kofta and Shahi Paneer. They’re consistently delicious, and I genuinely can’t get enough of them!
While the restaurant itself is quite small and can feel a bit busy with the constant flow of regulars coming in and out, it may not be the best spot for a relaxed dine-in experience. However, it’s absolutely perfect for takeout, which is what I usually go for.
For anyone who’s vegetarian or looking to try a fully vegetarian restaurant, A1 Sweets is a must-visit. The food is packed with flavour, the portions are generous, and it’s truly a nostalgic and delicious experience every time....
