After aborting the restaurant next door “Bengali Sweets”, I decided to try this Indian joint in Scarborough out and must say at first it was disturbing having to wait 25 minutes for a Thali. The restaurant opens at 11am but it was more closer to 12 noon when they had the “Hot Table” ready. The overall execution had to be fairly big in order to consider bettering my review on this establishment and for the most part I will respectfully say this has been conquered. Reasonable prices, everything in my “Thali” was piping hot and fresh. The roti was fresh as well but must say there is room for improvement . But at least it didn’t taste store bought. Only option for Sweet was “Galub Jalum”. My two pieces of advice would be to either open later or have the Hot table ready earlier so patrons don’t have to wait a long period of time. Secondly as I mentioned the roti does need to improve as I found it more to be on the denser side of the spectrum instead of the “Airy” side. I prefer the light and fluffy type. Besides all I’ve mentioned, Great job and this place is definitely worth a try. Stay clear of the place next door...

Yesterday we picked up catering food for our guests. I drove from ajax to Scarborough in hope that food will be of good quality, but when we served the food to our guests, we were disheartened with the quality. The Karahi paneer was sour, the paneer pieces were so thick and hard like rock. It was worst karahi paneer, we have ever experienced. The kadhi pakora was terrible too and the daal makhni was equally bad with so much water and no taste. Our guests were disappointed, this kind of food is not good for health either. The restaurant is so busy that guys working on the front they don’t care about customer service, for them it seems that they are doing free service to customers and were rude when I called them asking to talk to the owner. This is deem to happen in business when owner, is not involved in day to-today operations and they are not willing to listen to customer issues and have a “we don’t care attitude”. I hope the owner will spare time in reading this review with open mind. For us we are done, we are not going back to this restaurant and will not recommend our...

Growing up in Scarborough, A1 Sweets was a staple in my childhood. My family and I would often visit, and it quickly became one of our favourite spots for flavour, comforting Indian food.

We frequently ordered the thalis, and the curries were always prepared so exquisitely—rich in flavor and incredibly satisfying. To this day, I still find myself going back just to enjoy my two all-time favourites: the Malai Kofta and Shahi Paneer. They’re consistently delicious, and I genuinely can’t get enough of them!

While the restaurant itself is quite small and can feel a bit busy with the constant flow of regulars coming in and out, it may not be the best spot for a relaxed dine-in experience. However, it’s absolutely perfect for takeout, which is what I usually go for.

For anyone who’s vegetarian or looking to try a fully vegetarian restaurant, A1 Sweets is a must-visit. The food is packed with flavour, the portions are generous, and it’s truly a nostalgic and delicious experience every time....

This spot is a strong 3.5 stars. A really nice spot to grab some nice spicy food. I have been frequenting this location for over 20 years, and am still happy to comeback. They have revamped sections of the store over the years and added accents of culture all around the store. Food is always yummy! Agreed with the long wait times, but things like naan and puri take time to make especially when it’s FRESH. I take health standards very seriously. I noticed that there was a bunch of jalebis that had fallen in the sweets display. I informed the gentlemen at the counter that it had happened. He quickly came to the front and began removing them from the display and disposed of them directly in the trash. A must try is the thali and the naan. Definitely sends me back to India. Please note that if you are not in and out of the restaurant within 30s, the smell of the food will be baked into your clothes. 🔥

Tried A1 Sweets the other day and ordered Chana Bhatura, Kadhi Pakora, Paneer of the Day, some Rotis & Plain Naans. The inside of the restaurant was decent and had a few tables on the side. The Chana & Bhatura were both fine but all the other dishes were below average. The Paneer of the Day dish & Kadhi Pakora didn’t taste good at all. The paneer dish did not have enough flavour in it. The pakora in the kadhi was hard and just had besan in it and nothing else. The rotis were kind of okay but the naans were thick, rubbery and didn’t taste good. I asked for some pickled onions on the side but the container just had very few onion slices in it with carrots which looked bad. Certainly not one of the experiences I expected after hearing some good reviews about this restaurant.

So after alot of great reviews i visited the place today for some nice Indian veg food. Firstly the staff is really good and polite, the options as well as the price is very reasonable. The service was quick for us. We had ordered the much recommended Channa Bhatura and Tandoori aloo parantha. The channa bhatura was doable but the aloo parantha was the game winner for me. It was exactly the same way you get in in North India specifically Murthal (anyone from Delhi/ NCR can relate to it) We also took samosa and paneer pakoda. Samosa's were really good with some chai but would recommend paneer pakoda to be taken with some chutney else they will feel dry. Overall my taste buds were left satisfied and i will definaltly return for more!!
