We—two close-knit families—dined at Shahi Manzil for the first time last evening, and we’re so glad we chose it. From the moment we walked in, the space felt just right: beautifully laid out, roomy, tastefully done interiors, and such warm, welcoming smiles all around. It felt inviting the moment we stepped in.
We’ve had our fair share of disappointments with restaurants that had glowing Google reviews, but this time, I’m happy to say the reviews were absolutely on point.
A special shoutout to our server, Kareena, who was simply wonderful. Bright, attentive, and always ready to help with a cheerful smile. She offered recommendations based on a clear understanding of our taste preferences and spice tolerance (we like it proper Indian spicy and savoury)—and every single dish she suggested hit the mark! It was impressive how well she gauged our palates.
We started with Veg Manchurian dry and Devil’s Mushrooms—both were bursting with flavours, perfectly spiced, aromatic, and cooked just the way we like it. The portion sizes were perfect. They brought back memories of the real street-style flavours from India, which are often hard to come by here.
The kids tucked into their corners and had their favourite Dal Makhani and Paratha without even looking up—always a good sign! For mains, we had Stuffed Parathas/Kulchas, Pudina Lachcha Parathas, and Kadhai Paneer dish in tomtoe based gravy with chunks of the softest paneer and bell peppers. We asked for raw green chillies on the side, and they served them happily without a fuss. The parathas were so delicious, they could easily stand on their own without any accompaniment. The paneer dish was equally impressive—what really stood out to me was how well the flavours had soaked into the paneer and vegetables, in both the appetizers and main course dishes. That’s something many places don’t get right, but here, the flavours weren’t just on the surface—they had truly seeped in.
We made sure to ask Kareena to pass on our compliments directly to the Chef—because they truly deserved it.
All in all, this was a brilliant experience. We were not only delighted by the food and service but also pleasantly surprised to find out that the person managing the restaurant happened to be from our hometown and a junior alumnus from our institution. What a lovely coincidence!
Shahi Manzil has definitely made it to our list of favourite spots. Thank you, Team Shahi Manzil! Wishing you continued success and growth—may you go from strength...
Read moreWe recently dined at Shahi Manjil and ordered a variety of dishes – Veg Manchurian, Chili Chicken Lollipop, Fish Tikka, Tawa Pomfret Fish, Mutton Rogan Josh, Murgh Patiwala, and dessert.
🌟 Highlights:
Chili Chicken Lollipop – Absolutely the star of the night. Perfect balance between dry and gravy, flavorful, and though spicy, the heat faded nicely. 5/5.
Fish Tikka – Delicious flavor with perfect sizzling presentation. The only downside was that it broke apart before even reaching the plate. Considering price, portion, and taste, it felt a bit overpriced. 4/5.
Mutton Rogan Josh & Murgh Patiwala – Both dishes were enjoyable with generous, large meat pieces. Price was reasonable. Could improve slightly on overall taste. 4/5.
Customer Service (Servers) – Friendly and polite.
👎 Disappointments:
Veg Manchurian – Unfortunately, a letdown. All we could taste was the all-purpose flour coating, overshadowing any real flavor. Portion was fine but taste was a complete miss. 1/5.
Tawa Pomfret Fish – Extremely overpriced for the portion. Taste was off; the fish was not marinated well, under-fried, and had an unpleasant smell. My brother-in-law only finished it because of the price tag.
Food Timing – Dishes arrived one by one with a gap of about 10 minutes between each, making the dining experience feel dragged out.
⚠️ Management Experience: The biggest disappointment was the interaction with the manager. When we shared that everything was fine except the Veg Manchurian and Tawa Fish, she spent 10 minutes defending these dishes instead of acknowledging our feedback. As Bengalis who eat fish daily, we know what well-prepared fish should taste like. Having worked in the hospitality industry for over 15 years myself, I felt she lacked the professionalism to handle constructive criticism gracefully. Instead of making us feel heard, she tried to argue and position us as being “in the wrong,” which is not the spirit of good hospitality.
💡 Final Verdict: While Shahi Manjil has a few standout dishes and friendly servers, the inconsistent food quality, slow service, overpriced portions for some items, and unprofessional managerial approach overshadow the positives. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this restaurant to others until they seriously improve food consistency and...

After visiting Shahi Manjil Nine times (yes, Nine!), I can confidently say this is not just a restaurant — it's an experience. Each visit has been consistently delightful, without a single moment of disappointment. Whether you are a first-time guest or a regular like me, you are in for a treat.
My absolute favourite? The "Murgh Patiala" — a rich, flavorful masterpiece with an 'Egg omelette' that hits the perfect balance of spice and depth every single time. And every visit ends with their signature "Kohinoor Coconut Shake", which is nothing short of divine. It’s creamy, refreshing, and the ultimate finish to an indulgent Indian feast.
The ambience is elegant yet cozy — thoughtfully decorated with South Asian art that elevates your dining experience. Whether you are out with family, on a date, or entertaining guests, the vibe is always right.
Let’s talk service: It’s exceptional. On multiple occasions, Mr.Santhosh and the staff have gone above and beyond to make our dining comfortable and special — offering thoughtful recommendations and even complimentary desserts like gulab jamun. Their attention to detail and genuine hospitality truly set them apart.
A few practical tips for fellow diners:
*Make a reservation, especially for dinner. This place gets packed — and rightly so.
*Don’t miss happy hour (3–6 PM weekdays) if you enjoy pairing your meal with fresh beer.
*Parking is easy thanks to their convenient plaza location.
Every dish reflects authentic Indian flavours, made with care and high-quality ingredients. Even the soups, which I usually skip elsewhere, were memorable and palate-refreshing.
In short: Shahi Manjil isn’t just one of the best Indian restaurants in Toronto — it’s a benchmark for what fine dining should be. With top-tier cuisine, warm service, and a luxurious yet approachable setting, this place has earned every bit of praise it gets.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 – Highly recommended for anyone craving soul-satisfying...
