Shin Ramen and Sushi is a really excellent little spot. I used to pass by it often on my way to school and work but never had the chance to stop in—until recently. I’m glad I finally did.
Parking can be a little inconvenient, but there is some street parking available just to the left, free after 6pm on weekdays. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but it offers a fair amount of seating. I’ve gone on both a weekend and a weekday, and each time I was able to get a table right away without waiting.
The menu is surprisingly large and varied. I tried the takoyaki, Shin Shin ramen, shoyu ramen, chicken karaage, and the Salmon Paradise roll—all of which were excellent. Portion sizes are generous, everything tasted fresh, and the ramen noodles were perfectly al dente with amazing flavor.
My only critique is that the Shin Shin ramen, advertised as '1 spice level,' was much spicier than expected. I even overheard other customers mentioning the same. That said, the flavor was still fantastic, and everything else was perfect.
The customer service is always friendly and accommodating, which makes the experience even better. I highly recommend this spot if you’re in the area—it’s become one of my...
Read moreI was planning on trying one of their ramen dishes with the Naruto fish cake. When I got there, they were advertising a summer special which was the zaru soba with shrimp tempura for $17.95. I had to try their special.
The zaru soba was your typical offering plus it came with 3 shrimp tempura. In addition, the dipping sauce came with diced green onions, wasabi, and grated white radish which is typical in Japan but not here. Other places skip the grated radish.
The noodles were cooked with a slight texture, well cooled and topped with sliced nori as standard. The dipping sauce was flavourful but slightly on the watery side. I would have preferred it to be slightly thicker so that it clings to the noodles when dipped.
What as truly surprising was the volume of noodles which was double of other places in Toronto. Best value in town since others also charge the same price with half the noodles and no shrimp tempura.
Located just west of Kipling on Lakeshore. The restaurant has a variety of ramen but also does sushi and other Japanese dishes.
Definitely will be checking out them out again. Worth the drive for their summer zaru...
Read moreBe careful when you order from here, a lot of the soup that has vegetable doesn’t actually come with vegetables, just a LOT of bean sprouts. And paying extra for extra vegetables doesn’t give you extra vegetables. If you come here for basic ramen I guess it’s good.
In response to the owners response: No, the miso ramen clearly comes with bok choy as per the picture in the menu. If you’ve changed the recipe, then you should either change the picture or tell customers when they order the ramen that it’s different. This has happened to me with the miso saporro and other ramen that came with many other vegetables. Always only double the bean sprouts because it’s cheapest for you. Yes, I was brought a bowl of boiled, cold vegetable, but it was just cabbage with a few pieces of carrot and 2 slices of mushroom. No bok choy, no pepper, no bamboo. AND I had to debate with the waitress about the menu just to get it brought to me. If you’re going to argue with your (ex) customers on a google review, maybe get all of your info right so you don’t make things worse. I will definitely be telling my foodie group about this...
