People say that I am a dreamer. That may be so but when those dreams become reality they will be the ones that are sorry. My fantasies bring me to Northern Europe. To the isle of sky. To the Lake District of England, where tranquil waters reside and grand ideas are solidified. I wander these lands with hope in my heart and drink in the wonders that fall before me. I am filled with the utmost gratitude, however I am also terribly hungry.
I walk many miles until I come upon the lakes shore. Stored upon this lakes shore is an adorable little store. As I come closer I realize the adorable little store is actually an established pub that stands on business. As I bear witness to this gorgeous estate I traced my eye for the name and was taken aback with its simple yet clever play on words. The name, was kitchen on 6ixth. A handsome restaurant with quaint interior and a terrific ambiance. Entering the buildings warmth felt like springs first sunshine kissing one’s pores.
I found a comfortable seat in the corner of the room so that I could take in the kitchen for all of its glory. This was a restaurant that has and will stand the test of time. Imagine the stories these walls must tell of medieval soldiers celebrating a victory, shop owners spending their weekly earnings and of the secret two lovers share, kitchen on 6ixth proudly taking the residence of their hiding place, where love was forged and burned anew.
Snapping back into reality I look at the menu with delight, happy hour until 18:00. I order their house mead and the server returned with the beverage at record speed. The foamy mead was as refreshing as being stranded on the very glacier that sank The Titanic, frozen tears in my eyes as Jack sinks away, Rose left crying on the door that could clearly fit two. Once my thirst was quenched I ordered what can only be described as the best meal of my entire life.
That meal, was the fried chicken and waffles with blueberry compote and maple syrup. As soon as this beastly dish touched my lips I was in pure bliss. The combination of sweet and savoury made me realize that any past food that I have eaten that have claimed to have the same combination was absolutely lying. This dish was the final boss, this dish and its presentation was happiness represented beautifully. The time came for the cheque, where I officially made my decision to leave the waiter and the Kitchen on 6ixth my whole life savings. For the food that nourished me there, would nourish me into the next life as well. I had transcended reality.
Thank you Kitchen on 6ixth. Your food has brought me in touch with the divine, and I am no longer merely human. I have reached my final form. If the universe allows I will watch over the Kitchen with great care, and my experience will live in me,...
Read moreFirst time, also my last trying for oyster specials on Thursday. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to my circle.
I waited for at least 15 minutes, although there were available tables. The server kept walking by without acknowledging our presence (although the restaurant is quite small). We were totally ignored, only and until I brought up the issue. If you weren’t ready to take in the customers, do not advertise the “specials on Thursdays”. We are not here begging for free food.
While I was seated, I noticed other customers did not seem to have the same issue of being “ignored” like us 🤔 Was it because we were the only non-white customers?
There are many other much better restaurants out there that offer “buck-a-shuck”. The oysters themselves, although are offered only $1, are totally not worthy for our time. I came for the experience and the services, not for the “buck-a-shuck” oysters. I ate only 3, because they were below standards. As a successful business owner myself, my thought to Kitchen On Sixth is to keep in mind that if you aim to attract more customers with this trick, with little or no prep, you will probably lose more.
P.S. In response to Mr. Owner here: First and foremost, what are the reviews for?
Aren’t the reviews the true feedbacks from the customers/consumers about the experience they had with the business? In other words, writing an unbiased review is a customer’s privilege, isn’t it? The fact that I did not have a pleasant experience at Kitchen On Six, am I encouraged to write a five star review on here for Kitchen On Six? I was courteous to give a 3 star, but not one star ⭐️
Further, the reviews are for the business to be acknowledged and improved. If you, as an Owner, are not prepared to take in the “not so positive reviews while running your own business (especially in food industry), then you are definitely in the wrong path.
In conclusion, your response to a customer’s review herein speaks for itself. Please keep in mind that your response is publicly viewed by the existing/potential customers, and you also represent the image of Kitchen On Sixth.
My suggestion to you is to hire a manager who is highly trained in customer services. Alternatively, educate yourself if you...
Read moreSuggested to try this place out, and went with a group of 3 other friends this occasion. Overall experience I would give 3.5. We went in a Tuesday, so it was taco night and tacos were $5/ each. Food and prices: 3 Service: 3.5 I found the service to be fairly slow. We all ordered our starters and mains, and while the starters came out in about 20-30 minutes (tomato soup, 1 taco, and and beef tartar), it took another 20-30 minutes to get our main dishes (we ordered some tacos, fish and chips, lamb, etc.). All of us finished drinks and was already in the second round before the food got there. Not to mention, not all of us were drinking alcohol, and we ran out of water at the table very quickly. I saw some tables got to keep the bottle of water at the table, and I wish that was offered to us instead of bugging the servers all the time.
Anyways, I got all 3 of the tacos that were offered that night (chicken, beef, and okra), and as mentioned above, they were $5 each. The beef taco was definitely the best one, the jerk chicken taco was so spicy (and since the water wasn’t constantly replenished, I had nothing to wash the spice down with), and the okra taco was very underwhelming (as seen in the picture) literally had very little amount of substance in the actual taco. You would think, since it was a vegan taco, that they would be more generous on the toppings. But it cost me $15 for 3 tacos - I’m not sure what I was expecting in regards to the taco (I know they aren’t a Mexican restaurant specializing in tacos), but I felt underwhelmed by everything.
The one good thing I want to note was that they did allow us to stay at the restaurant after well they closed. Although, we weren’t the only ones at the restaurant, and no one approached us to get out, so we weren’t really sure what was happening. It was a great experience to try a new place out, and maybe it was because I ordered the wrong thing, food was mediocre at best, but this sums up my experience at the...
