Wonderful. The coffee was exceptional, staff are very friendly and the owners are approachable, knowledgeable and humble people. It is so refreshing to have a new coffee shop in town that does not adhere to the boring cookie-cutter trend of the ā€œbarnhouse-indistrialā€ third-wave coffee craze. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good pourover, but Shy Coffee co. Is above and beyond trends; pure, no-nonsense and classic. There’s a reason why certain things stick around after the trends dissipate: because they’re GOOD. All in all a wonderful experience, definitely coming back for another espresso or cortado and a delicious pastry (try their pistachio croissant - decadent!). BTW I want to steal their ceiling fans for my home! ;)

Cute little coffee shop on King Street West. My husband and I were looking for a place to sit down and have a nice latte and a bite and we walked by Shy Coffee. The interior of this coffee is really beautiful, reminds me of the shops in Europe. Staff were really friendly and greeted us when we walked to the register. The lattes tasted great, my husband got a breakfast sandwich (not made fresh, just reheated) and I got myself a croissant. The baked goods were fresh but wish they had more variety. Bonus points for this shop for leaving dog treats put for all the doggy owners to take. I thought that was really cute!

Nice decor and cosy place where they let you plug in your laptop and stay to work. Quite a busy spot so there is quite a wait, but not too bad and most people seem to just pop in and out, waiting at the seats. The guy in front us was very annoyed for the wait time. The cappuccino and latte were ok. I wouldn’t recommend the muffin, it was extremely dry and hardly any blueberries. Even washing it down with the coffee didn’t moisten it. Service was ok. Washroom is spacious and modern. Overall, I’d recommend this spot for their drinks only and if you can get a nice seat by the window.

This place smells like an Abercrombie. It’s literally overwhelming. Maybe it’s the boutique nextdoor, but cheap perfume is not exactly what I want to smell when I order coffee. Also, they were out of coffee.

Edit: Manager replied and said it was after 5pm. It was not. I remember very specifically that it was around 2:30pm, as I was early for an appointment across the street. Being out of coffee at 5pm is understandable. I was not told they were out of coffee before I paid. If I had been told before paying, I would have left rather than had the americano. Going through a refund was complicated as I was in a rush, and the smell was giving me a headache, so I took the americano. for the perfume smell, it definitely wasn’t from a customer. I would suggest keeping the door to the store next door closed or looking at how your air handling system works and whether you are creating a negative pressure zone with the...

I’ve been here 4 times so far. Twice I had really strong coffee, and the other 2 times it was perfect. It’s a cute little shop with a cozy atmosphere. However lol … I went with my friend today to get lattes after oat milk and sugar free vanilla a medium was 6.50$ ( which is pretty normal for Toronto pricing) Anywho the female barista tells me the total and I TURN AROUND to pull my face mask down so I can unlock my phone to pay, and the lady looses her marbles. ā€œ NOOOO YOU CANNOT REMOVE YOUR MASK, You CANNOT BE UNMASKED AT ANY TIME IN THIS ESTABLISHMENTā€. First of all it’s 2022 , everyone unlocks their phone with their face. I’m wearing gloves I’m not trying to take the extra 2 mins to remove them , type in my password and put them back on, not only was I turned around but I was also 5 feet away. I’ve never had this problem anywhere else. I don’t appreciate being scolded...

Edits made after owner’s response: I have lived in a nearby building since 2021 and have seen the staffing of Shy for years, including barista turnover, coffee brewing quality from season to season, year to year. I love Shy Coffee as an independent business, and truly want it to succeed, even if solely for the selfish reason of it being my neighbourhood spot! That being said, with all my time as a local, and having seen the staffing trends over the years, I stand by my review and observations. I think my review jump started healthier staffing from my latest visit!

OriginalšŸ‘‡šŸ» The way they understaff this busy little coffee shop is criminal. Waited 30 minutes for 2 lattes and done pastries with a 10 customer strong line on a Saturday morning. The poor barista must’ve made 20-25 cups before my order...
