Smoke's Poutinerie Danforth — Restaurant in Toronto

As soon as I opened the box, I couldn’t find any trace of gravy sauce. A proper poutine should have a generous amount of gravy poured over the crispy fries. However, this looked like someone just added a single spoonful of sauce and stirred it all together. The fries were already soggy, and as you can see in the photo, I couldn’t even find any gravy at the bottom of the box. This wasn’t poutine — it was just slightly coated fries pretending to be one. There were no visible signs that gravy had been poured at all.

As for the cheese? There was only a single chunk sitting on top, just like in the photo. Beyond that, I couldn’t find any more cheese, no matter how much I dug through it while eating. What I found underneath was just more under-sauced fries.

And that’s not all. Most of the fries still had the skin on, which gave them a bitter taste. Some fries tasted burnt, almost like the oil was old or the fries were overcooked — I could even smell it through my nose while eating. The oil had an overpowering smell, too. I honestly couldn’t tell where the bitterness was coming from — was it because the potatoes were old? Was it the oil? Was it because the fries were over-fried or the skins weren’t peeled? Or maybe it was all of the above.

We watched fireworks on Sunday (Victoria Weekend) at Wonderland but really wanted poutine after. Places we considered in Vaughan/North York were already closed, so we drove all the way down here to grab some. Totally worth the trip! Only one worker was on duty by the time we arrived, but the place was clean and the food was hot and fresh. It's been years since I had Smoke's, but this was the best one I had! Fries actually had some crunch to them (without being burnt)and it was seasoned well. I got the original with ground beef, my cousin got the limited time Shawarma, and sister got the Korean BBQ, and we all loved our dishes. It was pretty empty, though a few came for takeout and others sat for a shorter time, but we enjoyed our stay. One washroom was really messy (thankfully there were two), and when there were no napkins, the worker was quick to replace them. I wouldn't deduct points as he was the only one on deck. Definitely should be at least two people, but for him working alone, I'm actually impressed! He was very cheery and checked in on us while we hung out. Highly...

I have been a regular customer of smokes, I love the poutines. But, my recent visit to this location made me really curious and sad. It was like 1 am and I was craving so i visited this store and there was one girl from india struggling alone in the midnight, she was struggling with deliveries and my order. With curiosity, i asked her are you alone? She replied yes and she was trying to serve me fast. The employees really value the customer but i think the management is making difficult for everyone, the customer, the employees and the brand. I wonder is that even legal to hire a single employee in restaurant? The headbranch should do something about this. In a area like pape, I don't think it's safe for the employees. The manager and the management should be concerned about this because as far as i know its illegal. I hope to see some changes in...
