It was a Friday. when we walked into this unpretentcious establishment. Once opening the assist door, it felt like the neat "Fran's" from College. It was a busy day, as it took a while to turn out a simple order, yet the staff apologized.
We had no trouble finding a spot in the establishment. We chose to sit on the same side, looking out through a window facing the street in the plaza.
The "vegetarian burger" my spouse chose was packed to perfection. It had tinfoil paper on the burger side and similar to waxy paper on the outside. The burger looked delicious. The basic in this case was a single burger with plenty of thickness with double cheese. Some of the topings we chose (they offer 30 in total!) were guacamole, sautéed mushrooms, lettuce. Bannana peppers and jalapeños on the side. As well, we asked for Cajun salt on the side.
The combo (with potatoes and pop) had an option for $1 extra for sweet potatoes. We also got the diet pop.
The experience: First and foremost, thank you to the youthful attentive lady over 40 ;) may have been Africal American or Caribbean. She wore a black mask 😷. You are the best!
The food: tasty... especially with the choices made. But the burger may be lacking something in the formula. It's not that superb, really. The sweet potatoes were good enough. The Cayun salt did not help in any way... more like soup base. The diet Coke was good, and we got a refill - bravo!
My suggestion is to try the veggie burger without the cheese and see what you think (perhaps if possible, cheese on the side)
The portion: I shared the burger with my wife, and it was plenty for the two of us. Mind you, she eats little.
The total price: after tax $21.02.
The bread: we opted for the whole wheat bread (plain also available). I believe this burger needs a more sofisticated touch to appreciate it better. Perhaps starting with a denser bread that is gentle yet with a greater consistency. A bread you can toast a bit more and with perhaps a bit of Rosemary spice on it... just a thought.
Recommend: Yes, indeed. Do try it. Plenty of people go there and love it. Besides, if you are a meat eater, you will have a completely different experience.
Washrooms: clean, spacious, modern, and with real paper to dry your hands.!... a lady works hard at maintaining them and does a great job. Perhaps she does a ton more than this as...
Read moreNice location and staff but the product has seriously gone down hill. You're paying $10 here for a burger so it better well be damn good. What used to be a modest wait and yet a fresh juicy burger burger with beef flavour I got a dried up puck that only was edible because of the veg. Now the veg was no super star here either. No romaine lettuce as in the past and pale tomatoes even though they should be in season. I did not wait too long so I guess this was sitting already made. Well I can tell you it does not keep in the least. For the money I will wait a bit and hopefully enjoy a fresh burger. Maybe this is the new South Street. And the bun was like some doughy lead weight. What used to be different sizes of burger is now ONE SIZE fits all and thought they claim this is 5 oz I truly find that hard to believe. Better options near by are 5 Guys... mouth watering just thinking about it... or burger priest near York Mills and Leslie/Don Mills. Those are a bit more money but never a disappointment .... South Street needs to resurrect itself from previous glory. Or maybe this store needs to stop selling previously...
Read moreWe went around 1:30PM on Thursday and it was empty and easy to find a table to eat at. The staff were incredibly nice, funny, and polite. I appreciated their little comments and friendly demeanor (and I mean literally everyone that worked there had a smile and said "have a wonderful day" when we left).
We chose the bacon cheese burger and despite it coming with typical condiments/toppings, we could choose nice additional toppings too. We got Sauteed mushrooms, crispy onions, relish and my partner added spicy peppers. The patty is a great thickness: juicy and the rough circumference of a human palm ✋🏼 but not insanely wide like a smash burger.
The fries were really nicely done and the onion rings were very battered (which I liked but I know not everyone may appreciate). We both had a great experience here and would totally opt for this over McDonalds, Wendy's, or Grillies.
Oh and their combo includes a choice of fountain drink (and they had lemonade! This was a nice twist from typical Pepsi, 7Up, Nestea - although they do have...
