I've been a satisfied, regular Swiss Chalet customer for decades. All of my dining, take out and delivery experiences have been largely positive, especially at this location. When on the rare occasion something wasn't right, I'd let them know and Swiss Chalet would always make it right which I greatly appreciate. We had a very disappointing dine-in experience at this location on Tuesday February 27th between 6-7 p.m. The restaurant was not busy (three or four tables being served, total of 10 people at most) for our entire stay. We were shown to our seats at the window (beside the server's station) by a very unfriendly server. We had a bad feeling about that and should have left to do take out instead but we decided to give her a chance so we stayed. Things did not improve from there. The same inattentive, indifferent server seemed in a bad mood or at the very least, completely uninterested in serving us. She hardly spoke a word and was out of sight for most of our meal. Strange, since she appeared quite attentive and interactive with another table of presumably regular dine-in customers nearby. While we were ordering, she said "no, but do you still wanna have it?" to our request for a free appetizer as CAA members (had card ready before ordering and bill was going to be over $50). After ordering ("Two Can Dine Tuesdays" promo which we pointed out in the menu), we waited a long time and had to ask before drinks were served (just before the food arrived). She started to clear the table twice (appetizers and while one of us was finishing our meal) before we were finished without asking or looking at us. No finger bowls after the meal (saw her bring them to other tables). No itemized bill (so we didn't know exactly what we were paying for each item plus tax), she just put the card machine on our table and walked away into the kitchen, ignoring us as we called after her to please come back as we had cash and needed a receipt (people at tables nearby heard us). Never saw her after that. From the total on the card machine we noticed she charged us full price for the meal even though it was "Two Can Dine Tuesday". We had had enough so we put some cash and a gift card down and left. Very disappointing and unacceptable service. The food was good as always, however, the dark meat of one of our entrees was so incredibly small, we split the other white meat entree. Will think twice before dining in at that location again...and if we do, we will walk out on arrival if we see that server there. We will most definitely continue with delivery and takeout from now on, though, because we love Swiss...

My frustration over ordering a double leg dinner is extreme. While the University Avenue location does sell a double leg dinner none of the people that take orders acknowledges it and says that they don't have it. I complained to customer service and had and email back and forth with them that lasted for days trying to explain that the option to order a double leg dinner on-line does not exist. So, finally customer service puts me in touch with the manager that tells me to phone the store directly if I want a double leg dinner, so I do. The staff tell me to call the main line and make my order. They don't take orders directly at the store. I tell them that the manager told me to call my order into the store. I wait on hold for the manager, who doesn't remember me, and after checking that my address is in their catchment area, tells me that she has contacted customer service and told them to call me and place and order for a 1/4 chicken white (same price) and add a notation that the order is for a double leg dinner. Great. I wait awhile before customer service calls me and I place my order. Great. I ask for two Molson Canadian beers and they tell me they only sell 6 packs of either Heineken or Corona. I cancel my order. This took 30 minutes and now I am back to square one looking to order my dinner.

Edit: called the location to ask if they have Molson Canadian beer and they told me they DO NOT OFFER BEER FOR DELIVERY, so had I ordered Heineken or Corona offered by customer service, my order would have been taken, and I would have been called by the store to advise me of this and my order would have been cancelled a lot later.

I no longer want chicken from Swiss Chalet, which they seem to have insurmountable problems delivering, I want the hours (yes, cumulative hours) back from all the time I have spent trying to get two stupid chicken legs from these people!!!! Oh, and a...

food was great, service however was pretty abysmal. i’ve seen some reviews about nicer servers but i guess i was just unlucky today. my server wanted me gone from the minute i got here. when i sat down she immediately started taking my order, even though i hadn’t gotten a chance to look at the menu. i asked for a few more minutes to read through it and she came back no less than a minute later. i ordered and she didn’t come back to me until i was almost done the meal. another lovely server (who’s name i think is dion or dionne) actually came to check on me and made sure that i had all i needed. as i was finishing up my original server came back to my table and started wiping it up as i was eating. i was literally still chewing and she was taking away my plates which STILL HAD FOOD mumbling about how she needs to clean the table. like dawg i’m still eating. the cherry on top was when she brought the bill before i asked for it, withholding me from the opportunity to order desert/something to go. as i paid she literally bent right over to check that if was tipping her or not. like yes i’m going to tip you but i promise you don’t need to breathe down my neck to make sure…i enjoyed the food, and i’m sure the other servers here are much nicer. i was just unlucky today. in terms of atmosphere, it was loud and generally not relaxing. i’ve been to better swiss chalet locations, but at least the food was good. 5/5 for the food. 0/5 for the service. 2/5 for the atmosphere. would not come again unless i’m...

Have gone to this location a few times, mostly because it is in the same building I work in. The food is the familiar Swiss Chalet fare and the prices are OK compared to a lot of other places in the area. However, the service at this location is consistently slow and they often get the orders wrong. That is only mildly irritating and I can accept that when things are busy, but we tend to go for lunch just before or after the rush and service is still slow. Food has been spotty the last couple of times with cold fries in one instance, and stir fry with very little chicken in it the next. Today was the worst. I ordered a Rotisserie chicken club wrap and the bacon was rubbery and almost looked like it was raw. I had to take it out to eat the sandwich and it took the joy out of it. There was also very little mayo on it so it was very bland. I did not dare order another sandwich as it would have taken forever to get something else. We also waited a good 25 minutes for our bill and had to seek out our server to request it. They also messed up the bills and had to sort that out before we could pay and leave. I showed the server the bacon that I had removed from the sandwich and she seemed unfazed. "I'll mention it to the cook." Unimpressed to say the least. Next time we'll check out the rotisserie chicken place across the street. It'll be more expensive to be sure, but the quality of the food and service will likely be better.

A very disappointing experience with Swiss Chalet @ 700 University Ave tonight. I placed an order via the Swiss Chalet app at 7:33pm. After an hour of the app still saying "cooking", I called to check the status of my order (8:42pm). The customer service rep was super friendly and helpful, calling the store for me to track down my food. She said the store couldn't contact the driver, so she offered to refund my current order and place a new one for me as a rush, and I was quoted 30 minutes. On the app, my order status changed to "delivered" very quickly, so I checked my front door in case the driver didn't buzz or call - nothing. After about another hour, I called customer service back (9:36pm), and was told to check my door again for the delivery, then the rep called the store/driver to check delivery status. I was quoted 10 more minutes. At 9:45pm the driver called me, i went outside, and he arrived a few minutes later. When the food arrived, it was cold. Rechecking my receipt I can see a note saying not to remake, so this is the food from the 7:33pm order delivered over 2 hours later. My box did not have Chalet sauce (arguably the best part of a Swiss Chalet meal), and the other order had dark meat, when white meat was ordered (normally for an extra charge). I appreciate the customer service rep, she handled the situation very well. It's unfortunate my overall experience was so poor.

Have been seeing fewer locations lately - I think all restaurants in BC are closed down. So when I moved to Toronto, I knew I had to go again to see what I can't remember. Came on a rainy day, so there were available seating. Was originally going to order take-out, but decided to dine in since there are more options available. The server was friendly and attentive, making sure I was alright. I ordered a meal, starting off with Cheese Perogies - wasn't expecting the perogies to be deep fried, but I enjoyed these cheese stuffed pockets. I also got myself a Shirley Temple (because I'm a child), and it was okay - I think there's something missing in the drink though. Then the main dish arrived: Quarter Chicken (white meat) with Fries. I ordered Mashed Potatoes, but I was just hungry at this point. The chicken is very juicy, packed with a flavour that makes you want to keep on eating. The fries were alright, should have gotten the seasoned variety instead. As for the sauce (gravy?), there's a prominent apple flavour to it, which I wasn't sure whether I exactly liked. The staff provided great service; it did seem that there wasn't enough staff, but then again, it wasn't a busy day. For what it's worth, it was a nice nostalgic moment, despite not remembering my last visit.
