I must write a review about them. I couldn't resist going back for a second round within a week, and some of my friends became regulars just for their 'Adicha chaya'.
Let's start with their service—it deserves an applause for sure. We were there at 3 am, and the staff was all happy with a smile and ready to serve. Their energy is commendable unlike having a tired and weary face at that hour. They were also quick to fix any issues, like when our fish curry in paal kappa had only one piece of fish—they promptly brought us an extra plate.
Now, onto the food—Each dish was so close to authenticity that you feel like being back in Kerala and it was all so delicious. My personal favorites were the Paal Kappa(have it hot and not home delivered), Al Fahaam on rocks, and the chicken biriyani with mutta. Unlike many places in Toronto, where they serve Malabar biriyani as a mix of just ghee rice and chicken roast, Their's seemed more authentic. Mixed/Layered kizhi porotta was a creative take on the kizhi porotta, with the mix of egg, beef, and chicken, though a tad too spicy for my taste.
The ambiance was also on point, with soft, romantic Malayalam songs playing in the background. I loved the quote frames on the walls—they added a nice touch of uniqueness. The bathrooms were clean and tidy, which is always a plus.
The only downside for me was the use of disposable plates, but I understand the importance of hygiene, especially in these times. I would wholeheartedly recommend Tharavadu to anyone craving a taste of Kerala. The prices were reasonable, making it a perfect spot for all the Malayali immigrants longing for a taste of home without breaking the credit card. I have written quite a long review but they truly deserve it. Plus, if there's something you didn't like, just let them know—they're more than happy to make it...
Read moreWe usually come to this restaurant quite often , almost every week, traveling all the way from Bowmanville to Scarborough for dinner, and sometimes even for tea and snacks. We’ve always appreciated the food and atmosphere, which is why we’ve been loyal customers for a long time.
However, our experience tonight Sunday 2 nd of Nov (around 10:30 p.m.) was truly disappointing. My friends and I (three of us) sat down, ordered some snacks and tea, and received our pastries first. While we were still eating and waiting for our tea to be served, one of the servers named Diana came over and asked us to move to the “drink area,” which doesn’t even have proper tables or chairs. The reason she gave was that she needed to accommodate another group for dinner.
We were shocked and felt extremely disrespected. We’ve dined at many restaurants across Canada and other parts of the world, and this is the first time we’ve ever been asked to vacate our table before even finishing our order. It was embarrassing and completely unacceptable, especially considering that we are regular customers.
When we asked other servers about it, they mentioned that they were instructed by the owners to do so. If that’s true, it’s very unfortunate. The management really needs to learn how to treat their customers with respect and integrity, rather than bringing a “back-home” attitude into a professional environment.
We hope the management takes this feedback seriously and ensures that no other customer has to go through such a disappointing...
Read moreCame here cause a friend wanted to show us food from her state, but all the restaurants were closed! Although Kerala is not necessarily where she is from, it still looked good and seemed worth checking out. I'm really glad we came here.
You first order at the counter at the front of the restaurant, which also had little baked snacks and fried foods you can order, then you seat yourself on the other half of the restaurant which turns into a dining area. The person that served us was extremely nice and knowledgeable on potential items to get for our first time here. A friend and i got the kizhi porotta while my partner got the pomfret fry.
Our food came out not long after ordering. It was wrapped in tinfoil, and underneath that is porotta wrapped in banana leaves. The porotta was nice and flaky on top, with the stews and spices layering underneath with chicken and beef. The chicken and beef were so tender it practically came off the bone. It was extremely flavourful and delicious. I tried a bit of my partner's pomfret fry and it was flavourful and delicious in its own way too! They ordered appam on the side which is a fermented rice batter. Goes very well together. I also ordered a mint lime juice on the side and it was very tasty. It paired well with the food
I would definitely come back here to try the other menu items as well. Delicious...
