You can really taste the new owners. The bar itself was fine for a pint with good company but sweet lord the food was unforgivably bad.
We went specifically for the prime rib dinner and scotch selection - both of which were massive let downs. I don’t know what cut of beef they served us but it was leathery and gray, with watery horseradish. The Yorkshire pudding looked and tasted like the frozen ones from Costco.
The scotch menu - previously one of the best in the city - was similarly underwhelming. It took three tries before I found a scotch that they had in stock, and some of the basic regions were sorely under represented. Three Islay/Island Scotches (one of them being $130/oz) was not the variety I was hoping for from a pub that touts it’s scotch selection, especially after so many wonderful trips to the pub pre-Covid.
We wound up having a great night in spite of the food, but that was saved solely by...
Read moreFor me, it went from "the very best" to "never going there again". Used to go once every week or two with my family when cooking was not an option. We all loved the superb quality & variety of the exceptional pub food offerings. Consistently, without fail, which takes dedication!! After recent change of ownership, menu was lame, food was terrible and service was poor. They haven't taken down the old awesome menu from the website, so don't be fooled; what's on offer now is not at all what you will see on the old, online menu. RIP beloved Lamb & Ale Stew, Haddock Cakes, Tuesday Pasta Specials, their Amazing Burger (Our recent burgers left us all hungry and needing food after eating there, let alone the terrible "fries" that everyone else has commented negatively on - some pressed potato flakes battered and triple fried, or whatever). A terrible shame. We miss the old Feathers...
Read moreThe Feathers is known for their extensive list of Scotches. They now seemed determined to offer the best pub food in Toronto. Being no stranger to British Pubs, I am drawn to pub food. At the top of my favorite pub food are the homemade pies that grace the best pubs. So, at Feathers I had to start with a Glenfiddich scotch. For the main I tried the new Haddock and Salmon Fish Pie. It was wonderful. The pastry was light, fluffy, and very flavorful. And the sauce it floated on was delicious beyond any reasonable expectation. The pie was great. The salad that accompanied it was not an afterthought. It was full of tomato, cucumber, sweet peppers and shredded carrot. Of course, I added the Bread and Butter Pudding. Thankfully, my partner helped me with this creamy delight. The pudding was to die for, and it was a large serving. I'm heading back to Feathers...
