The Roasted Nut — Restaurant in Toronto

I discovered the roasted nut this year through social media (a Toronto creator). I was eager to try and even picked up a cold cashew butter latte to a friend as a treat.

After enjoying my first visit, I have since then gone back, tried some of their mixed nuts and baked goods. I brought my husband to try and most recently took two friends out of town since I had been so happy with the experience. Their products from what I tried are indeed great.

Unfortunately my last visit to the store the service was so disappointing that I am questioning returning or recommending again. I love supporting small business and appreciate the community vibe attached to it. When I went to store I asked about their promotion I saw on the website. The first person helping me wasn’t aware about it and then said it is not in store and left. I looked online and noticed they have an option to pick up within 24 hours (I live far and drove an hour to go there, and it was around 4pm when that happened on Saturday). I asked another person that comes to the cash if I can do a small order for in store pick up perhaps within an hour or more. She dismisses and tells me it takes a day to two. I show her on the website the option of within 24 hours and she responds: Like I said, a day to pack.

This was after having my two friends buy lattes and even recommending them to bring some products home from Christmas (which one of them did). I am really disappointed to write this review and hope they can be more customer service oriented/friendly. Not everyone that comes by lives in the area. I shared the story with my husband and he said last time he got a coffee there he wasn’t treated very nicely either and didn’t feel compelled to go...

Atmosphere is amazing and my drink was lovely, though I was disappointed to find that I was overcharged for my iced latte.

The menu quoted $7 (before tax) for the Roché Latte (medium), but when I saw my receipt I noticed I was charged $8.25 (before tax). You may see my receipt below. I told the cashier right away and she does not give me a refund as she should have. All she says is, “Our prices must have increased recently last month and our new prices never got updated on our menu.” She then speaks to her supervisor/manager in charge and reports this issue, to which he says the same thing to me, offering me no refund for the difference. Instead, the girl offered me a pocket of nuts or a small date (the size of a coin)—which is NOT what I even came here for at all… I didn’t even want either item but they gave me no other option and just brushed it off because they saw another person come next in line. I’m not even sure if those prices will be updated on their sign… they didn’t seem to take it too seriously from what I saw anyway.

I am not writing this to complain about the price increase (as many businesses naturally do); rather, I am writing this to express my frustration with how unprofessional and unethical this encounter was. I don't like leaving local businesses bad reviews but the service could have been better the few times I have been there.

The one guy who attended me the last two times was a little rough around the edges as if I was bothering him when I knew exactly what I wanted and did not take up any of his time. There was no one else in line behind me so that wasn't it, either. He also doesn't bother labelling each bag of nuts. I had to memorize which ones were which. Not a big deal but also does not take much effort to jot down what is what with a pen on their big labels they use on their packaging.

I've sent the company an email through their site and tried calling again this morning to see what the best way to store their butters are and am still left in the dark. I feel like I am being annoying at this point. I haven't even opened my jars yet because I still am unsure.

On to the positives. Great assortment of nuts! Fair prices. Pretty chill atmosphere. Very cool how you can see their roaster behind the till. I have not tried their coffee or other beverages but am sure they are also amazing.

I will come back for the items I need or just order online from here on out as parking down there is kind of a nightmare.

Edit: Reading over other reviews they do seem to print labels for their nuts as seen on one image here. Maybe their labeling machine was down the last two times I went. Wanted to be fair and include this...
