It is my favorite tradition north China breakfast restaurant. It is take me back to my hometown—Beijing. It is called tianjing but actually Tianjing is only 150km from Beijing. So We have pretty much same food. I always take my friends come to this place for breakfast and enjoy the hometown taste. My favorite food is douhua . In northern China, douhua is often eaten with soy sauce, thus resulting in a savory flavor. Northern Chinese often refer to douhua as doufunao (豆腐脑; dòufunǎo; 'tofu brains', often shortened to 豆脑; dòunǎo). Local Beijing people usually eat doufunao for breakfast together with eggs or youtiao (fried dough sticks). Doufunao can be found at breakfast stands along the streets in the morning. Other times it is hard to find outside of a restaurant. The second food I like is youtiao. Youtiao, also known as Chinese cruller,Chinese fried churros, Chinese oil stick,Chinese doughnut, is a long golden-brown deep-fried strip of dough commonly eaten in China and (by a variety of other names) in other East and Southeast Asian cuisines. Conventionally, youtiao are lightly salted and made so they can be torn lengthwise in two.Youtiao are normally eaten at breakfast as an accompaniment for rice congee, soy milk or regular milk...
Read moreOkay, so here is where it is at. I simply LOVE the dumplings or should I say "jiaozi" - my mandarin is basic and rough, not being born in China. I would eat them everyday if I could. In fact, I love it so much that I have not eaten anything else there. Also, the prices are amazing! I took friends there and they loved it too, and I spoke on their behalf. The staff are very friendly, yet - which may be the issues some are experiencing - not all staff speak English and typically when I have gone only one staff does, so it can mean a bit of time to order. Yes, this place offers authentic food from their home country. So this is like a give and take here, including that while it is dated, this would be the norm 'look' if you ever go to China outside of the popular large tourist cities/areas. For myself, tasty yummy jiaozi overrides all because looking at the rest through an alternative viewpoint, it is authentically Chinese. I have had jiaozi in other cities and it is still my favourite place. My mouth is watering for...
Read moreWe decided to try Tianjin for an early breakfast and try the northern China style foods. Ordered fried meat buns, pork leek dumplings, fried dough, green onion pancake, jellied bean curd, crust of cooked rice and rice bean congee. The last 3 items we ordered were more of a regional dish. The jellied bean curd was my favourite of the 3. Since I like bean curd and it’s textures. Crust of cooked rice was not what I’d expected. I was expecting the layer of rice at the bottom of a pot when cooking rice. Which is crunchy and has a charred smell and flavour. Congee was the region’s style and consistency. There also not enough filling in the dumplings. My favourite dish was the fried meat buns. Some of the dishes requires acquiring a taste for. Next time when feeling adventurous I will come back and try other dishes to validate if I like this region’s...
