Edited It is hard to find out the place only one person could able to manage everything (in & out) the owner, chef, cleaning, cashier, …. But everything is perfect. Miracle ✨💫 🙌 who gave Viet Chay 1 star because they don’t see in the back what Vicky does and don’t think deeply Why she is working very hard because “money” ??? “No” I am regular customers for 3 years I knew about Vicky and the reason why she has given up everything before she had and working with this job. It is not easy but it is make her happy when she see people eat vegetarian food….. if possible I can give her 10stars not only 5 stars ⭐️.
Super delicious! Owner is friendly and cheer
We dined at Viet Chay Vegan Restaurant on a Thursday evening and it turned out to be quite busy (inside and take-out) so I was glad we made reservations in advance. We came prior on a wed night and found out last minute that Wednesday is the only day that the restaurant is closed. The restaurant is super cozy inside and the staff are very attentive.
The walls are covered with many awards, comments and experiences from MP (member of parliament). It made me feel proud of Viet Chay. They got a lot of awards from City and globally. All items on the menu are Vegan and some vegetarian drinks.
This is second time we came here but still could not choose some items on the menu. To select from their menu and all food items that we ordered were super flavourful. We ordered their Bean Curd Sheet (Imitation Duck), spicy Pho, Lobster Rolls (of course it made by bean curd sheets) and mixed Vegetables Stir-Fried yellow noodles , rib stewed, crispy tofu, pho, spring rolls, crispy king mushrooms, crispy wonton, tomyum, Pad Thai, crispy yellow noddles, and sandwiches.
All of the items we ordered, we enjoyed everything. Crispy wonton and Pad Thai were so good. Chatting with Vicky the owner and the chef. To be known Vicky done everything by herself and super women able to do in and out the restaurant.
Miracle 🙌 ! Overall, I enjoyed my family dining experience here and will be back to try some of their other items on the menu that we didn't get to try.
Must try vegan Lobster, spring...
Read moreI'm convinced that 90% of the 5 star reviews are from people with no taste buds. The food here tastes like it was prepared by someone just starting to learn how to cook. There's almost no flavor in any of the 4 dishes I ordered. The mock lobster or whatever it is they call it, was so so so OILY and tasted nowhere near like a real fish would and the spring rolls were burnt, greasy and tasted like dish soap. This is probably the worst vegan food in the city and the owner literally sits down at a table next to you to watch you eat their slop and/or talk to you to tell you to "leave a good review on Google". Not only is that creepy but super uncomfortable as well. The owners responses are not even their own as the creepy owner herself does not speak English fluently. Since the menu has no prices listed, the prices she vocally lists at "max $15 per dish" is deceiving as well. You don't know what's what. Never never never never never again will I come here. I dumped my takeout straight into the garbage can right after I left. Edited for owners response: The food as clearly shown in the photos I provided, is from Viet Chay ONLY. Your oily mock lobster is clearly shown in the photos as is your gross spring rolls and fried oyster mushrooms. Even the dishes in my photos match the dishes of the other reviewers photos so I don't appreciate you accusing me of leaving a "false" review just because my opinion of what you call food is negative. You're a business and you have to expect to get a bad review here and there because the whole world isn't going to all agree at once that your food is "wonderful". I LOVE vegan food and I didn't say you sold me any meat products. I'm also not part of whatever group of hamburger people you're talking about. Please re-read my review carefully. FYI, vegan and vegetarian are two completely different things and I'd also like to add that soy products are REALLY bad for your health. This restaurant's vegan food is too bland and greasy for me. I also didn't like having the owner sit at the table beside me to watch me...
Read moreThe whole experience was… weird.
We walked in around 11:40am—no other customers, no pickup orders—just the owner, working alone. We ordered two phos and waited over 20 minutes. Strangely, no tea was offered (a first for me at a Vietnamese restaurant); instead, we were handed two Kirkland bottled waters.
When the food finally came, the Thai basil was wilted and clearly not fresh. The carrots in my pho were cut into random shapes, and the onion tips were left in and overcooked—rubbery and hard to chew. For a place with 4.9 stars, I was genuinely surprised by the lack of care in ingredient selection.
Halfway through our meal, the owner asked us to pay because she “needed to buy groceries.” I’m not sure why a restaurant would open if it wasn’t fully prepared to serve customers. Strangely, after we paid, she stayed seated at the counter for another 15 minutes while we finished eating - no sign of urgency.
When I politely asked if there was a cash discount (as many restaurants offer), she said no and immediately launched into a long speech about how her prices haven’t changed since before the pandemic—repeating that point several times as if that justified the $15 vegetarian pho. Honestly, $15 for a bowl with such low-quality ingredients isn’t a good deal at all, especially if that really was the pre-pandemic price, when most beef phos cost $10. I still paid cash tho.
Honestly, I restrained myself from pointing out more issues. I've been to quite a few high-rate pho restaurants and none of them made me feel strange but satisfied. I do respect and want to support local businesses. But seeing a place like this holds a 4.9-star rating feels unfair to other local restaurants that are truly working hard to earn and maintain that kind...
