So far so good. To be quite honest I was not impressed with their location in the west, despite my mom thinks differently, but then again, my mom does live in Mississauga. Everyone knows Scarborough is the place for foodies and Leela' s made the correct choice to open a location right in my backyard. Thank you for that. Anyways, moving forward, the stars: š location š cleanliness š service š quality & quantity š variety. And an additional š flavors. Now keeping in mind, there's always room for improvement, I think the doubles is lacking a little, just a little flavor. In my penny's worth of opinion, I believe the dressing (cucumber) needs a little work. I love a doubles, but unfortunately, I still have to travel aways for this delicacy. But, great job on everything else š.
Update Oct 2025... So, I use this restaurant as my regular Roti/West Indian spot. I have been supporting this business since they opened this location. Not long ago, I ordered food for a function that I had back in April. Everything was good, well prepared and on time for my schedule pick up at the restaurant. A little pricey, but then I am cheap.
Anyhow, I recently ordered through the Uber app(Oct, 28th). It was delivered within a reasonable amount of time. However, later that night my stomach was in serious pain. I could only imagine it was attributed to what I ate. I had the Bake and Shark. BTW, for those who do not know, this is a staple iconic (street) food of T&T. Very delicious when prepared correctly and garnished to your liking. So, what I came to realize is that this restaurant substitute the Shark with Haddock. But still uses the iconic name Bake and Shark. Seems a little like, false advertisement to me. Although, I've come to realize it does actually state this information in parentheses on the Uber App. Reason, I imagine, to Uber they must follow strict guidelines with accountability and transparency being a must.
So, back to my rant, I believe the coleslaw or something within my Bake and Haddock sandwich was off. And completely destroyed me that evening.
My next issue is that, actually it's my wife. She's upset that you no longer carry bone-in curry chicken. I have to here her disappointment everytime we order from here or go into the restaurant. Please bring it back, because, yuh know how dem Trini woman like what they like, enough said.
My next concern, and please don't get me wrongšš¾. However, is it really difficult to find a Trinidadian to work the front counter, someone that speaks our linguistic tone? When I go to a traditional East Indian restaurant, believe me, I've been to a few, I have yet to see a Trini working at the front in a customer service role. I wonder why....
Lastly, you run a very nice restaurant, but from time to time you will get feedback like this and probably worse. I'm not sure if you are aware of your tone and lack of humility when responding to your customers reviews. But in my penny's worth of opinion, that behavior is unbecoming of a restaurant that has so much potential to expand and become a dominant restaurant /(force) throughout the GTA.
Like I said, I have been coming to your place of business since you opened here and your family's restaurant in Mississauga prior to. I am a lover of my West Indian Trini culture and I have been going to these types of restaurants for well over 40 years. In other words, I've eaten plenty of roti outside. Lol
Please have a look...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHonestly extremely disappointed. I was told how great this place is but honestly everything was flavourless and not at all what I would expect from West Indian food. I got pholourie, doubles and macaroni pie. The pholourie had NO flavour at all, there was visible spices in them (which I found was a little unusual) but had 0 taste. Doubles were SOGGY like liquid dripping out of them and the filling was again tasteless, couldnāt even taste the channa. The Mac pie was ok, I could tell the macaroni was flavourless but the oxtail gravy on top somewhat saved it. Iāve never had west indie food thatās been THIS bad. Steer clear.
Edit: see photos for soggy double this is for the owner, itās honestly a shame that you doubled down and are unable to take customer criticism. I shared my personal experience of the less than subpar food and experience I had, and you called me dishonest. Not only that but you opted to undermine other West Indian restaurants in the city. Quite embarrassing for a business owner to be carrying on this way. If Wicked Carib is the best in the city, why be so unable to take feedback that you insult your competition and customers? Your unwarranted response and lack of awareness shows that you and your business lack the ability to grow and take feedback. Maybe the kitchen was having an off day but I know for a fact that the food I tasted was mediocre at best and disappointing by most West Indian peopleās standards. If anyone reads this, Monaās roti and doubles are infinitely better and NICER to their customers. Iāve never mentioned other businesses in a review but the reaction from the owner really solidified the fact that other business will appreciate your patronage and certainly receive customer feedback with more grace than Wicked Carib. Another good mention is Chris jerk, delicious jerk chicken thatās consistently yummy.
I hope the owner will reconsider their response and take my review from a place of constructive criticism and not a personal attack. Once again Iām disgusted by the combative nature of the response from the owner, especially calling me a liar. I never want to disregard or negatively affect a local business but I will comment on lack of food quality if warranted. I will not be returning and will be telling my friends and family about my bad experience and the complete arrogance of the owner....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTDLR; The food I ordered from here was the best Caribbean food I've ever tasted in my long life! This is saying alot since I'm from Guyana! Highly recommended !!
I ordered the Ox Tail dish with Peas and Rice, and I ordered the Butter Chicken with a Paratha. The Paratha is the 'plain' roti in case you didn't know. OMG, the Butter Chicken is superb. I've ordered Butter Chicken from OTHER 'authentic' east indian restaurants in the area, they all get it wrong. Their chicken is usually dry and overcooked, or they use cheap pieces. I thought I made a good Butter Chicken at home, I wasn't even close to this one at Wicked Carib. First the chicken, looks like it was made in a Tandoori oven, it has that red colour on the outside, but oh.. the chicken meat the mouth feel the seasoning... so succulent, so tastey!! The sauce, so much different than the recipe I use at home, its so smooth, sweet but not too sweet, not salt, perfectly complements the chicken. I ate until I almost burst, I just couldn't stop! Delicious! The accompanying Paratha, its absolutely HUGE very generous portion, and for you Carribean food fans the texture of it, looks like it was 'buss' up, you know where while you are making it you throw it up in the air and slap it, to pop the air bubbles .. oh the texture the mouth feel.. fantastic!! I should say something about the portions as well, in this age of shrinkflation, I was super impressed to see how much food Wicked Carib gives for your hard earned money! I really ate my Butter Chicken meal until I was full, yet I have enough Paratha and Butter Chicken left for another meal!! Finally, and this is a small detail, but it shows how careful and detail oriented Wicked Carib is, I ordered take out, the Butter Chicken came in a paper bucket container, sealed firmly with a plastic cap, but to make sure that it didn't spill in the bag, Wicked Carib, wrapped the top with plastic shrink wrap, something I've never seen before but I understand the reason they did. For those who made it to the end of this review, I all I can say is try Wicked Carib for yourself, you will...
