It's truly perplexing to observe the trajectory of this establishment. My initial encounter left me with a favorable impression—harmonious ambiance, attentive service, and delectable cuisine seamlessly combined to create a positive experience. Yet, it's regrettable to note that subsequent visits have borne witness to an unexpected decline in food quality, leading to disappointing outcomes. The proprietor, a genuinely affable individual, consistently demonstrates a vested interest in guest satisfaction, frequently engaging with patrons to glean their experiences. Given his evident commitment to the restaurant's reputation, I am compelled to share a candid suggestion: an urgent focus on rectifying the waning food quality is imperative to prevent the erosion of patronage in favor of neighboring competition. In particular, an instance involving the eg Florentine dish stands out as emblematic of the regression. The presentation was marred by an unpleasant taste, while the English muffins arrived in a lamentably soggy and aged state. The accompanying potatoes further exacerbated the matter, characterized by an arid texture indicative of their staleness. While I express my desire that this commentary reaches the establishment's attention, I'm equally hopeful that they seize the opportunity to recalibrate their culinary offerings. A revitalized commitment to food quality would undoubtedly alter the narrative, potentially prompting a return visit that could elicit a more positive appraisal. Until such an evolution takes place, however, it's regrettable to admit that I find it challenging to envision a circumstance that would prompt my return.

Was one of the most unappetizing meals I've had in a really long time. The latte was 4.5$ and pretty much just tasted like steamed milk/water. My partner got the spanish frittata which ended up being extremely overcooked and was rubbery. I got the chilaquiles and although I can't attest if it was authentic or not, it just wasn't good as one of the poached eggs was also overcooked, the pico de gallo was bland and overall the dish just tasked like bland soggy tortilla chips. I have a hunch that the kitchen staff cut corners and didn't care as the poached eggs was grabbed from a vat of water where they were already precooked, and reheated which would cause them to be overcooked. The frittata also tasted like it was just reheated from a prior day (maybe week?), giving it the unpleasant rubbery egg texture. Lastly, the latte was probably the most disappointing as they have an espresso machine with a steam wand but the one prepping didn't know how to steam milk and the ratio of milk to espresso was extremely favoured towards milk. My honest thought is that a nespresso machine could make a better automated latte than what was served. As mentioned in a previous review: "What a disappointment with this place. The images of the food items posted on their website doesn't resemble what you get." My sentiment is the same after visiting this place and my recommendation would be to never come again. I had to go to another coffee place close by just to get a latte.

We have visited the Yonge Cafe many times over the past year. We normally go for brunch, but we have also had lunch and holiday dinner takeouts from the restaurant. The owner and her family are so friendly whenever we visit and the food is really great. The restaurant doesn’t try to be fancy, and it doesn’t need to be - the food is great and comforting, the service is friendly, and it feels like an old neighborhood hangout that we want to visit and support again and again. Our favorite meals are the chilaquiles, pancakes, eggs benedict, turkey dinner, and they now have sandwiches that we have really enjoyed too. They also have amazing brownies! We are very cautious about COVID safety and the owner and staff take all necessary precautions to ensure that everything is safe. The Yonge Cafe is a bit hidden at the corner of Yonge and North York Blvd., but it’s really worth visiting, buying local, and supporting a great family-run cafe!

My wife and I stayed at the Novotel North York last night while visiting from Kitchener. We saw on Google Search that the Yonge Cafe and Bistro was close by and had a good rating, so we walked there for breakfast this morning. We weren't disappointed!

We chose to sit on their spacious patio, which is set well back from Yonge St. so the traffic noise is minimal. Our Columbian coffees arrived moments after we were seated. The owner, Elizabeth, and her husband opened the restaurant just as the first wave of COVID arrived. They're from Mexico so there are Mexican-styled offerings on the menu as well as traditional breakfast and lunch items. My wife and I each ordered the Chilaquiles Benny with green salsa and refried beans.

Although a steady arrival of patrons continued while we were there, service never lagged. Our main dishes arrived in less than ten minutes, hot and fresh; the side bowls of refried beans were warm with a squiggle of sour cream and an upright Tortilla chip decorating the tops.

Everything was delicious and, as many have commented, the staff were all so friendly - especially Elizabeth. She mentioned to us that she tries to order her ingredients from Canadian suppliers - especially local ones - as much as possible, to support them. Before we paid our bill, we headed inside the restaurant to survey the many pastries available and we selected a few to take with us.

We really enjoyed the food and the experience here, and we look forward to visiting again...
