Really trying hard to still like Cafe Landwer. Our server Sarah is lovely. But it was hard to flag her down.

I decided to try the salmon salad today. It was okay.. the salad was swimming in acidic lime dressing, so I told another server that they needed to at least move the salad to another plate due to excess dressing. They did, but the second plate also had a ton of dressing still on. My tongue was burning from the lime juice. So I asked for brand new plate with dressing on the side. The next salad was missing the chickpeas and the chia seeds. The rest of the protein. There was zero effort put into the dish. It’s like the cook decided they were done for the day. I didn’t bother sending it back. I could just tell the cook wasn’t in the mood.

I’ve never returned food at Cafe Landwer (or ever). I am truly disappointed with the quality going down. It’s going to be hard to return and bring friends over. I used to RAVE about the restaurant and how happy I was to have something so delicious in my neighbourhood. We started with 5 stars if you look below. I am sure you can see the decline.

— 3 stars

Where’s the Irish lassie? She was the best server at Cafe Landwer.

We went on the weekend, and got seated in the corner for dinner. Our server was so absent minded, she kept forgetting plates and cutlery for us. I had to ask her for refills for water. I also didn’t like her hovering when we were paying.

—

This is an old review, it used to be 5 stars. Had the best time a week ago with our Irish server. She was incredibly attentive and also knew how to take care of the table full of our kids on the opposite side.

The food was delicious and reliable. I will come back and eventually try everything...

Came by for a quick “brunch” stop. Saturday of thanksgiving weekend, so, understandably a bit busy. No stress! Got a table fairly quickly, immediately greeted by a manger who was very nice. When the server came by I asked about the “silky frost latte” - she just replied “it’s too sweet, I wouldn’t recommend it” - fair! We just believed she was being frank which is appreciated. We got two other coffees and two pastries to start, both arrived very quick and were quite nice! However the rest of the experience was pretty mid. My partner got the protein omelette which he said was fine, albeit bland. I got the breakfast sandwich with the beef sausage add on as it didn’t come with any meat. I was a bit surprised, as it came on a burger bun (just a bit odd, no issue otherwise) and the scrambled eggs were obviously just a plain omelette (also, fine, eggs are eggs). Also incredibly bland. However you get 2 breakfast sausages, the itty bitty ones, for $5. I feel like 4 is the standard for the price? Eitherway, nothing distinctly wrong, just incredibly lack lustre. My partner and I both work in the service industry, we are fairly understanding of service quality / how busy the server is. That being said, by the end of our stay we had decided our sever was just pretty over her shift, rather than being too busy. She took our order, had the blunt comment about the coffee, checked on how the food was as soon as it hit the table and didn’t come back till she cleared the plates and we asked for the bill. By the time we were passing the machine back she was already walking away and saying “bye” over her shoulder. Overall just a really OK experience. We’d come back for a coffee and some...

I've been wanting to try Cafe Landwer for many years, and although i have yet to try their brunch, I enjoyed their dinner options. I got the rose ravioli with schnitzel add-on, and in my opinion the food was slightly bland, but it was extremely filling and I cleaned the plate. Aesthetically, every dish that came out looked delicious as well. Some dishes seemed to have more value than others, such as the pasta over the shawarma which was really small. We also got the wine & dine for 4 with the cheese board, but the table sign advertising the wine & dine didn't mention the cheese board would also contain nuts/walnuts, which I'm allergic to, so unfortunately I wasn't able to partake in the cheese board, except for one slice of cheese that was isolated and a mozzarella stick (which was actually delicious bc it's cheese). I heard the fries with the burger were really good, but the burger tasted store bought/old. The Margherita pizza for some reason doesn't come with basil, which is what makes it Margherita I think? Our server came back after our concern and laid out one (1) basil leaf on the pizza, which was really cute, but it was still strange to me that they would offer "Margherita pizza" on the menu but it's literally just cheese pizza. Overall my group and I had above average food, with hit or misses across the table, maybe bc their menu is too extensive and offering like 3-4 different cuisines. This resto is a great place to hang with friends tho, and I definitely want to come back for brunch, but I feel like they should try to tailor their dinner menu more instead of trying to offer everything, and then maybe they wouldn't have to serve cheese pizza as...

I normally write reviews a few weeks after but I am making an exception to this establishment. My close friends and I had our dinner here today. When we came in, the atmosphere was warm and even more inviting when the staff greeted us. We felt welcomed immediately. It was packed but they had a few tables available and we did not have to wait at all. JJ asked us if we wanted to transfer to the larger round table with a bigger couch and we said yes. JJ, Joy and the other woman who served us were all amazing and wonderful! The job can get exhausting but they seemed to be enjoying what they do! The service was top notch from beginning to end. JJ even went an extra mile and offered us desserts and told him that we were there to celebrate a friend's birthday. The food were all presented well! My friend and I who ordered shakshuka expected more but it was good. My friend who was celebrating her birthday enjoyed her truffle pasta and even said that it is better than the truffle pasta at the other restaurants she tried. My friend who ordered a salad pointed out that the mushroom was delicious and cooked perfectly. Overall, we enjoyed our experience as the ambience and service enhanced our dining experience. It makes you want to slow down, relax and have a genuine connection with the people you are eating with, and enjoy a pleasantly prepared meal. If you are going alone, it encourages mindful eating even in the midst of a busy time. Again, thank you so much for your exemplary service!

This location used to be one of my favourites and it was my staple for a long time. The food used to be so good and service was very family oriented. Unfortunately, things have been taking a down turn for the last few times we have gone but the most recent time was the worst. 1. The service members are not trained properly. The front desk person did not know how to take down a table for 2. She was frantic and was running around. She asked us 3 times if we needed help until she finally asked someone for help. We told her to take her time and she was like “uh sorry idk how to take down a reservation.” 2. We were seated and the server forgot to bring out water for 25 minutes after we placed our order. 3. We ordered mushroom hummus and truffle mushroom pasta. The portions were cut down significantly and the taste in the pasta was very bland. The truffle taste was not there The hummus portion was very little, but the hummus tasted good. Granted I understand Covid has made things hard but the portion was cut down significantly. 4. When we ordered the hummus, it is supposed to come with pita and pickles. When we told the waiter, he said it is extra when it isn’t. Overall, I will not be returning. The staff members should really get better training and hopefully the food tastes better for the future. Cafe landwer has really gone downhill from a year ago from today which is so unfortunate. Hopefully they can get better training and fix the dishes.
