We really enjoy this place and come fairly regularly for years (from pre-pandemic). Great value, good portions, friendly staff and quite a good music (Chinese/Mandarin) playlist!
We also got their lifetime VIP card many years ago (I think it was $10 or maybe $20 back then?) which gives a 10% discount. We’ve gotten so much value out of that and have saved $100+ over the years.
EDIT 2024-Nov: updating review because I’ve been a long time customer for years and today I went for a late takeout lunch and thought I’d claim my free birthday noodle (first time I’ve done this) and I was denied. Said the card is only valid for 10% discount and to claim the birthday noodle I have to give up my card (!!!!) and register online (and basically give them my personal info). The birthday noodle is for VIP members (which I am) and says I just need photo ID for proof of birthday (which I had). Honestly, a free noodle is a very minor thing but now over your refusal to honor your own VIP offer/promo, I may not return.
RESPONSE to owner: as I mentioned, I did have my ID + membership card. the BHD noodles wasn't being honored not because I didn't have the required IDs, but rater was told I had to give them the card and instead sign up for the online account. I'm also not very comfortable giving my phone number and email, etc. out -- especially not for a HBD noodle. There's nothing on your site that says I needed electronic registration. Perhaps for new members, but the fact that I have physical card indicates that I'm also not a...
Read moreCame here on a rainy Friday to have rice noodles for dinner.
Nothing beats a hot bowl of rice noodles when it's cold and raining outside. Ordered a spicy rice noodles to warm up and increase my spicy tolerance.
I'll start by saying the food is good. The broth came hot as it usually does. There are a good amount of toppings, standard amount compared to similar places. I like that their noodles are unlimited refills. The popcorn chicken has the right amount of crispness. It also had the right amount of seasoning, had the right amount of saltiness. For the chicken however, it was pretty standard. Nothing mind blowing for me. But the portion is good so I didn't deduct any points.
As for their service, they seated me very quick. There didn't have a full house. The staff came quick to explain the menu, either use the printout or scan the QR code. They were also fast when I asked for Noodle refill and more sauce for the popcorn chicken.
Next is their location and the dining area. They're located at a convenient place. Right along Finch and near the street so you can't miss them. Parking is also abundant. The dining area is big enough and can hold a lot of people. What I liked is they closed off some tables for social distancing.
Overall, I enjoyed my visit here and will definitely come back during another cold...
Read moreGood food good service. Crossing-the-bridge noodles has over 100-year history and it was listed as an intangible cultural heritage of Kunming city in 2008 to promote Yunnan food culture. The dish is served with a large bowl of boiling hot broth and the soup ingredients. The soup is made by chicken, pork bone and seasoning, such as Chinese star anise and ginger. Also, using a layer of chicken fat to insulate the soup and therefore keep it warm for longer. These ingredients are separated. The soup ingredients are served on a cutting board or plate and include raw vegetables and lightly cooked meats. Common ingredients include thin slices of turkey, chunks of chicken, chicken skin, strips of bean curd sheets, chives, sprouts and rice noodles. Once added into the broth, it cooks quickly with a layer of melted chicken fat and oil glistening on top. The soup takes a few minutes to cook, and it is then spooned out into small bowls. Jim Thurman of LA Weekly writes that "with the rice noodles and fresh chicken, it's reminiscent of an extremely subtle version of Vietnamese pho ga [chicken pho]. Which shouldn't surprise anyone, as Yunnan shares a border...
