We heard about Ye Skewers Hot Pot during Summerlicious but didn't have time to go. We went today and had a great dining experience. It was the first time we did a skewer style hotpot and the staff was very friendly and helpful. There were so much choice so the help from the staff was appreciated.
It's a buffet style AYCE hot pot. But you have to get your own pot of broth, which is actually great especially if you are very specific about your flavours. Broth is not included in the AYCE fee. Weekends and holidays are more expensive than weekdays.
The skewers make it easier to choose selections from the buffet room. I liked that the raw meats are in a separate closed glass door refrigerator, away from the sea food, noodles and vegetables. I do wish there was English signage for the sauce combination recommendations. You can pretty much create your own sauce, but there were some spices I'm not familiar with so I didn't know which went with what. I also love that there is MSG available for those who aren't scared of MSG. Uncle Roger would be proud.
Restaurant is very clean, the ambience was relaxed and quiet when we went, so if you come in as a group it is easy to socialize and don't need to yell over music to be heard. The washrooms are very clean and well maintained. It wasn't too busy when we went so the food is replenished at the buffet area right away.
We probably ate too much than we normally do, but there are no regrets. Price range is typical of what to expect from an Asian AYCE (expect to spend at least $100 for 2 people if you want to get extra stuff than the AYCE fee and the broth). You do have a 120 minute time limit, but I'm assuming it's during the busy hours since my husband and I were eating very leisurely and enjoying the experience so we probably were there longer. Will definitely return and...
Read moreYea, I have to give them a one star because they got my son sick. Not sure if our fault for not telling them he has a peanut allergy, but my son ordered a soya milk drink and they gave him what looked like soya milk but instead was a nut drink. My son was choking and sick for like an hour and nobody came to check up on him or anything. We thought that the drink was soya with added peanuts but when the receipt came, it said “nut beverage.” To me that is pure malicious and jeopardizing the health of people with nut allergies. I told the waitress and she just shrugs, nobody said anything … or offered any assistance or apology. Pure denial and inconsiderate, my son had an anaphylactic attack where we had an epi pen on standby bc they give a nut drink instead of soya milk. Worse, the bottle was in Chinese and he couldn’t read the contents to see if it had nuts in it.
That’s plain bad on any level of service. Giving a nut drink instead of soya drink. That can be considered an assault on child tbh. I’m definitely filing further complaints and perhaps pursuing other legal ramifications for negligence.
If my sons allergies were the more severe kind, it could’ve killed him. He drank 3/4 of bottle before he realized something was wrong and we were all genuinely scared.
Never again.
Update: 04/18/23 I emailed as they suggested, no reply yet … bad service, bad attitude but i guess that expected. What’s not expected is giving a unknowing child a nut drink with pure Chinese labeling knowing how severe nut allergies can be. Don’t gamble with other peoples health...
Read moreArrived at 7pm on a Tuesday and the restaurant was pretty empty. I was excited about my first dining experience here as I heard good things! But after trying, it's nothing special other than their food being on skewers!
Contrary to other hot pot restaurants where they bring you what you order, you have to go to the fridge to get the skewers that you want aka buffet style. I felt the selection of Veggies and non meats were pretty standard. Nothing memorable. They do have premium lamb and beef that you have to order off the menu that's included in the AYCE that they bring out for you. I actually thought these unmarinated meats were better than the marinated skewer ones! The rest of the meats are marinated on skewers in piles in another fridge. This looked very unappetizing for me as I don't know how long all that meat has been there! I'm pregnant and I have to be careful with what I eat and ensure ingredients are fresh. I didn't find the meat skewers especially tasty either. Needless to say I didn't go back for seconds. Also All the skewers only had a couple pieces on there which is such a waste of skewer sticks! Why not pack more food on there?
I usually would opt for the pork bone soup base but didn't want to risk it as another reviewer said they got food poisoning from that? I ended up going with the tomato soup which tasted standard.
The cost here is $27.99 per adult plus your soup base price which is at least $6.99 depending on which you choose. Tbh I've had better hot pot elsewhere and think the skewers is...
