My family had such a negative experience dining here on Sunday, August 5th. We arrived at 5:55. There were two empty tables in the restaurant and we were directed to the dirty one with plates still on the table. Over half the food was left on both of those plates. It took more than five minutes for someone to come and clear it (worth nothing that at NO point during our visit did anyone else sit at the only clean table available when we arrived).
After finally having the table cleaned, it took another five minutes for our order to be taken.
From there, the rest of the visit was incredibly painful to the point that we considered getting up and walking out a couple times. We ordered our food around 6:05. Our food didn't arrive to our table until 6:50.
The fries were DISGUSTING. I love home cut fries and was so excited this place had them on the menu!! And when they came out looking overcooked, that was okay with me because I like them crispy. But these weren't crispy fries. These were old, overcooked fries. The fries were tough and unsurprisingly (after waiting for forty minutes), they were cold!! The whole table commented on the fact that we understood now why the table before us had left over half their plate untouched. Also, the POUTINE HAD SHREDDED MOZZARELLA ON IT?! I was surprised at how cheap the poutine was when I saw it on the menu but between the disgusting fries, the mozzarella, and the incredibly salty gravy, it made a lot more sense.
The seafood was delicious, we were all impressed with how good our haddock bits, fried scallops, and pan fried haddock were. But from the time we arrived to the time the food was in front of us, it was just shy of an hour. We all agreed the seafood was great but not worth the gross fries or the wait. Also, the restaurant was running out of scallops with my dad getting the last order. He got the scraps of what was left and if he had been told they only had the bottom of the barrel left, he would have chosen to get something different.
Given that Digby has a plethora of seafood places, I would highly recommend any of those places before this one (and I haven't eaten at any of those places).
I would like to note that the waitress that served us was incredibly pleasant and friendly, making sure to include my three year old in the conversation which I appreciated. I also understood they were quite busy with it being a long weekend (the restaurant was running out of fish as we were sitting there and had to close early for the night). But seriously, our kind waitress was the ONLY highlight of our trip to...
Read moreFood poisoning I truly hate leaving negative reviews and almost never do. I recently took my first trip outside of the USA driving 2300 miles (3700 kilometers) from Tallahassee, Florida to Digby, NS to see the love of my life again. I only had 5 days that I could spend in your beautiful country and I have no idea when I could possibly have the resources or time to come and see her or Canada again. On the second day in the country we went out to dinner at The Crow's Nest and shared the seafood platter adding the shrimp. The food tasted excellent, the staff was attentive and welcoming, and the view was delightful. Unfortunately about 2 hours afterward I started vomiting profusely and constantly for 8 hours. I clearly was experiencing food poisoning. Throughout the night I had incredible abdominal pains with explosive diarrhea after the initial 8hrs of vomiting had completely cleared my stomach. The experience left me shaken and weak. I slept a lot for the rest of my trip and didn't want to eat much at all and only started to feel a bit better on the day I had to start my journey home. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic I must say that eating dinner at The Crow's Nest had ruined the majority of my vacation. I was unable to enjoy the company of my partner or do much else in Canada but lie in bed for the duration of my trip. All of the other plans we had needed to be canceled. What should have been the greatest vacation of my life became a nightmare that has even put a dark cloud over my relationship. The quality time we had anticipated having wasn't possible and we probably won't see each other for another year. I'm left wishing every day since that I just hadn't tried to enjoy any of the local cuisine. I understand that issues like this are bound to happen from time to time at any restaurant and I'm glad that I am the one who ate the bad piece of food and not my partner or her 3 year old daughter who I shared the meal with. Otherwise I would say that my overall impression of the restaurant itself was a positive one. Delightful staff, clean tables, nice view, and wonderful tasting food.

Read moreMy three star review is due to a rude server and some overcooked scallops. Not a great impression of Digby on our first evening in the town. My husband and I arrived on the ferry from St John around 4:15 pm. By the time we checked into the inn, unpacked and researched the restaurants where we could get a good scallop meal it was around 6:00. We arrived at the Crow’s nest by 6:10 and were seated quickly inside near the register. Eventually, a waitress came to take our order. We ordered a seared scallop entree with fries. When I asked the waitress if that entree was large enough to split, her answer was, “We will have to see when you are finished.” in a very rude, condescending tone. She quickly walked away. I was taken aback by her answer. I have asked that question many times to servers in a variety of restaurants and never received a reply like this. We did split the plate and it was enough for us because we had a fairly large lunch in St John prior to boarding the ferry. However, some of the scallops were overcooked causing them to be tough on the edges. We did not mention this to the waitress because she never came back to ask us how the food was. Maybe the waitress was having a bad day, maybe she was rude because they close at 7 and we were there 40 minutes before closing, maybe she thought I asked a ridiculous question. Whatever the cause for her demeanor, we will not return to this restaurant during our four day...
