One of the best Korean restaurants in Metro Vancouver. It's easily just as good as the best ones downtown. Everything is incredibly good here, but let's go over some of my favorites.
This may be shocking, but one of the best things on the menu is the Fried Brussel Sprouts. The small bites of crispy pork belly are so good and the kale and Brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection - not overcooked but crisp. There are a few rice cake pieces in the salad which are can't miss! Plus the maple soy sauce it gets mixed in just ties it all together beautifully.
The KFC (Korean fried chicken) is also cooked to perfection with the outer crust nice and crispy and the chicken still tender and juicy. We got the boneless 1/2 original and 1/2 soy garlic. What's great about the soy garlic is that it wasn't too saucy but still carried a good amount of sauce. The original is great too, and can easily be popped in the air fryer or oven the next day and be just as good.
The veggie japchae is also incredibly good. Full of flavor and lots of toppings. The glass noodles had a great amount of chew and the portion was huge.
We also tried the kimchi cheese fries and chicken noodle soup. I wasn't expecting much but the fries were a surprise hit with a slight tang but not spicy kimvhi and the slight saltiness of the cheese and crispy fries. The chicken soup broth was just so comforting and again the portion was huge with lots of noodles and toppings.
Highly recommend this place if you love Korean food or if you are looking to try it for the first time. It's absolutely worth the drive if you're coming from...
Read moreI used to love this Korean bistro. It was one of my favourite places to have lunch or dinner when in the Willoughby area. However, twice now I have been disappointed! A few weeks ago, I ordered the seafood pancake, and it was still raw inside. I politely told the waitress it was still undercooked. They took it back and recooked it. When it was returned, it still did not look appetizing since it was fried too much, but quite undercooked inside. What a waste of $18! Tonight, I went again with my family. I ordered the big bbq combo and it was a huge let down. It comes with a variety of meats on top of fries and a side of bao buns for $55. The short ribs were mainly big pieces of bones and hardly any meat. The pork belly was bland. The chicken was very dry which they tried to cover up with a teriyaki-type of sauce. Then there was a super spicy meat but was way too spicy (and my family and I love spicy). Overall, the portions and qualities of this dish is not worth $55. The waitresses before used to be much friendlier and much more attentive to customers’ needs. Having to constantly ask for more chopsticks, napkins, water, etc. due to lack of customer service. I have never needed to press “other” on the debit machine for 10% tip on a $179 dollar bill, but I did tonight. Sadly, I will not be praising nor recommending this restaurant anymore and likely will not be back for...
Read moreNo half ratings on Google. I would give this a 3 and a half out of 5.
I’m on a quest for Korean baby! Today’s stop is Banchan in Langley.
Started off with some Bao Bun and I was a little underwhelmed. The bun itself didn’t give you that pillowy, cloud-like texture you pray for every time you order Bao. The pork belly also kinda tough, which is not what you want from pork belly, you expect a buttery, tender bite. The bulgogi Bao bun was a step up and a lot more flavourful.
Next I ordered the Tuna Bap. It was absolutely killer. Seared to excellence. The rice had a little crisp edge to it, and the portion size was more than I was expecting.
My friend who tagged along ordered the cold noodles and the bowl was massive! An array of flavours to mix together and experience. I took a couple bites and was wildly impressed by the fried kale, it adds a nice crunch and freshness to the bowl.
The service there is pretty poor, one waiter who rarely comes around even when we came at a very quiet time. The waiter was also not able to answer much about the menu.
All in all i’d go back again to explore more of their...
