Sushi Mura Langley – Good Food, But Terrible Customer Service
Our family has dined in and ordered takeout from Sushi Mura Langley several times since it opened, even recommending it to friends because of the good food and proximity.
Unfortunately, the most recent customer service experience on August 29 was the worst!
We placed a phone order for pickup. When my husband brought the food home, we discovered that two rolls (Dynamite Roll and Alaska Roll) were missing, and instead, we received a salad we never ordered. The receipt on the bag showed the correct order, so the mistake was clearly on the to go food preparation.
I called the restaurant and spoke with a staff member who apologized and gave us two options: (1) come back with the credit card for a refund, or (2) have them prepare the missing rolls. Since we were hungry, we chose the second option and my husband drove back.
When he arrived, the front staff could not find the replacement order, so another lady came out. Instead of apologizing, she said:
“Actually, we didn’t miss your order, we checked everything and it was complete. But anyway, don’t worry, we are making you another one.”
She said this with a sarcastic smile and smirk—implying it was a lie. My husband felt accused, humiliated, and belittled, instead of being treated with respect. Naturally, he came home extremely upset.
I called back to complain and was connected to someone named Sophie, who introduced herself as the Manager. At first, she didn’t seem to take my concern seriously until I mentioned leaving a review. Only then did she pay attention to my complaint, apologized to me and event spoke to my husband to calm us down. She also offered a 15% discount if agreed not to post one as well.
After reflecting, I realized this is not about money, free food, or discounts—it’s about how poorly the situation was handled. A simple mistake with an order could have been resolved easily with sincerity and professionalism. Instead, the staff chose sarcasm, defensiveness, and dismissiveness, which ruined the whole experience.
Final verdict:
✅ Food: Good quality, enjoyable sushi.
❌ Service: Extremely poor—rude, unprofessional, and condescending staff.
❌ Management: More focused on damage control than genuine customer care.
We will not be returning and cannot recommend Sushi Mura, Langley despite...
Read moreWe visited this new restaurant around the corner from us to celebrate my father in law’s birthday. The place looks quite nice from the outside, so we were excited to check it out. We came as a party of four plus a 1.5 year old and decided not to order family style. Two of us had sushi and the other two ordered udon.
SERVICE: Most of the food came out relatively quickly except for my dish, the mentaiko udon. When everyone else was nearly finished eating, we flagged down a server to ask about it. She went to check with the kitchen and said it was on the way but didn’t seem all that concerned. Ten minutes passed and still nothing. We asked again, and then again a five minutes later. It was frustrating, especially since mentaiko udon isn’t exactly a complicated dish to prepare.
What made it worse was that this was the dish my toddler was supposed to eat, and he was getting very hangry. Most of the other dishes people ordered had raw seafood, so they weren’t suitable for him to nibble on. We ended up having to rely on snacks I brought from home.
CELEBRATIONS: Then came the birthday cake situation. I had called ahead to ask if it was okay to bring a cake, and they said yes. After our meal, I discreetly asked the server to bring the cake out in a few minutes once the table was cleared. He smiled, nodded, and I even pointed out who the birthday was for. But instead of a simple, celebratory gesture, the server literally plopped the box on our table with the candle still taped to the side. No presentation, no plates, no lighter. Not exactly what you’d hope for during a birthday celebration.
FOOD: As for the food, it was just okay. The menu felt limited, the pricing didn’t match the quality, and overall it lacked the service. Personally, we prefer places like Sushi Avenue that offer more variety and...
Read moreTried Sushi Mura our for the first time with my family. VERY cool vibe inside, clean and tidy. We ordered a decent amount of dishes, including sashimi, nigiri, rolls, jambong (korean spicy soup), and karaage.
Service was excellent - quick and polite. The food was great. - the jambong was spicy, flavourful and satisfying; it is definitely not an authentic version but it is not trying to be.
The sashimi was a bit pricey but the portion size is large. Fresh and nicely presented. Only thing missing was a shiso leaf, which I really look forward to when I am having sashimi,
The rolls were good - nothing too special though I didn't order any special type of roll. These were geared towards my kids.
The "karaage" was in the form of chicken wings. This is not typical BUT, they were perfectly done. This would have gotten a perfect score but for whatever reason, they did not include any Japanese mayo, which is a MUST with karaage. Also, a good piece of lemon would have been nice as that is needed and not a small little decorative one.
The nigiris were good - and good prices. Hopefully, they don't change those prices. It is a big draw.
One thing they really need to improve on is their selection and service of drinks. They were "sold out" of any/all cocktails - kind of strange. Also, I ordered a draft beer, pint and it basically came kind of cool. Not at all cold. My only guess is that the beer in the keg was not cold or/and the glass was straight out the washer and hot, and they poured cold beer in it, resulting in a not-cold, not-refreshing beer. I didn't bother complaining though. This (and the small details of the dishes, like the karaage not having mayo) why I couldn't give 5 stars.
All in all, its a great new spot, I will definitely go at least one more time and I...
