Urban Pantry welcomes with modern and pleasant décor. Dining room layout makes the best use of natural light. Ample free parking. Good service. Unfortunately, we have no plans to visit again because the food was not memorable at all.
My Bison Burger was grilled perfectly medium rare. It was juicy. It was also one of the blandest burger I ever had. It was a giant juicy meatball of tasteless meat. It’s as if the chef grounded a flavorless chunk of inside round cut, rolled it up and grilled it on a skillet. The patty was so thick and lean that all the additional condiments didn’t do it any service. Their presence on the bun was just an afterthought. My first bite also delivered a major turn off: the fancy sauté mushrooms in brie sauce were fridge-cold. It took a few minutes before the heat from the burger warmed up the sauce so the taste started to develop. This burger would have been a much better dish if one giant meatball was instead grilled as two separate patties, served with a thick-cut piece of crispy bacon in between and instead of brie the sauce was based on blue cheese. That meat begged for more flavour and variations of texture in each bite.
So while Bison Burger was a bland dish to forget the Chili Fries presented a completely opposite dilemma. Chili Fries packed so much heat that it was a bit overwhelming for our palate. This was surprising because neither the menu nor our waitress stressed out the spiciness coming our way.
Our kid’s burger had to be replaced because it was burned black on one side and our child complained that it had too much bitter taste from the over charring. On the other hand it was very nice to see that the restaurant offers freshly cut vegetables as an alternative to fries on the kids menu. Thank you Urban Kitchen for that!
My wife liked the Mushroom Salad but I didn’t really think it was that exciting. Overall we thought that our hundred-dollar meal (I had one pint of draft beer) didn’t score more...
Read moreThis was our first time visiting Uxbridge , such a quiet and comfortable little town. The air even felt fresher somehow. There were quite a few restaurant options in the area, and we ended up choosing Urban Pantry.
I made a reservation online the day before, since I was bringing my dog along. I’d checked online and noticed they didn’t have many outdoor tables, so I thought it’d be best to book early and avoid the stress of waiting for a seat on the day.
When we arrived at the restaurant, we waited for the staff to seat us outside. It wasn’t too busy yet, so the server actually let us pick any outdoor table we wanted. Not long after we sat down, more and more people started arriving — the indoor seats were nearly full, and the outdoor area quickly became packed as well.
We ordered the steak sandwich and the fusilli. Originally, we were planning to get something like an all-day breakfast, but it turns out that menu is only available on Sundays!
Steak Sandwich: The sandwich itself was decent, but the beef inside was a bit overcooked and tough. Some pieces were so chewy that we couldn’t even bite through them. We also paid extra to get aioli to the fries. We might’ve misunderstood, but we thought the aioli would be tossed together with the fries. Instead, it just came in a small dipping container on the side — not quite what we expected!😅🤔
Fusilli: This dish was packed with ingredients, especially the shrimp, which was super satisfying to bite into. They looked small at first, but every piece was meaty and flavorful. The combination of pistachio Thai basil pesto, shrimp, cherry tomatoes, and roasted sweet peppers made the whole dish feel fresh, balanced, and absolutely delicious!
Btw, the weather that day was amazing — not too hot, not too sunny, with a gentle breeze every now and then. Sitting outdoors in that kind of weather honestly made us feel like we could just fall asleep...
Read moreBeen here a couple times now but our last experience is making us reconsider returning. We attended for our wedding anniversary - I am a big foody, studied all restaurants in the area for weeks, including their menus and decided on Urban Pantry.
After ordering drinks and appetizers, when it was time to order our mains we were told they haven’t gotten their seafood order in days. We specifically came here for the shrimp and pickerel. I understand things happen but a sign on the door/website or even a friendly “sorry we are out of all seafood” when we were seated would have been the right thing to do from a customer service standpoint. Instead I had to find main dishes I didn’t want and have to pay over $100 for a meal I could have made at home for a fraction of the price. They reduced the price of our bill by $2 because there was no seafood ($2!!)
We don’t go out often so this was supposed to be a special evening celebrating our anniversary, I even mentioned that in my reservation details. Just wish the service was there to make us feel as if we should return.
For the business owner - I get it, some weeks are hard but Uxbridge is slowly getting more competition with better restaurants. You need to surprise and delight your customers and not mislead them to try and stay because you don’t have your ducks in a row when it comes to your supply orders. Heck I would have driven to a grocery store to buy you some shrimp if I knew ahead of time, it would have made all the tables around me (including us) very happy.
This could have all been avoided by proper signage or communication from the very beginning...
