CottageRental.com — Hotel in Uxbridge

I have used this company since 2014 for my yearly cottage bookings and refuse to use anyone else. They are by far the best company out there for renting cottages. I found all other cottage rental websites to not be user friendly, or to have a lack of staff (or none at all). Their website is incredibly easy to use and the booking process is simplified using their services. The customer service should also be noted as they have excellent service. They have ALWAYS been kind to me and do their best to accommodate/assist no matter which employee I am dealing with. Response times are also fabulous. I have never had to wait longer than same-day or overnight for a response (depending on when I have emailed them).

I've visited 4 different cottages over the years (I now consistently book my favourite cottage exclusively) and each one has been kept in great shape and clean upon my arrival. You always receive a booklet in advance of your stay with every piece of information you could possibly need to know (directions, waste disposal, general cottage information, information about the area, etc). I am never left worrying in advance of my vacation or with any questions.

Booked a cottage with them for June 12, 2021. Due to government restrictions for COVID -19 short term rentals are not permitted until June 14, 2021. They contacted us to inform us of this issue to make us aware. I requested to see if we could only attend for 5 days starting on June 14th to adhere to the Ontario governments COVID restrictions. They denied this request due to their strict 7 days booking policy. I then requested for the refund and they are refusing the refund until the date of June 12, 2021 because the government may change the date. They are essentially holding my refund hostage in hopes that the government will potentially change the dates. This is unacceptable. I understand the need to cancel and follow government rules, but holding my money hostage is unfair and provides poor customer service. Especially during such unpresented times. If I had advised that I wanted to pay for this cottage, but it was based only on if the government would allow it they would have never held the reservation for me. Double standards and poor...

Description of Cottage.

The lake is gorgeous, the scenery is magnificent, the cottage will give you that quaint woodlands experience perched atop a beautiful hill side. Just 700 short stairs down to the water. Be prepared for the authentic 1st settlers experience climbing mountains and dying from heat stroke.

And then to settle back home for the most numbingly email exchanges from the owner demanding compensation (approx. $1,110) for a few beer caps left behind and the fridge not being wiped down.

We've rented four cottages before, and we left this place spotless (even de-weeded the garden) only to come home and be sent the below photos of alleged (damage / not being cleaned).

We should have went with our gut instinct and not booked here as we could not find reviews for this...
