It’s Sunday today but yesterday, Saturday, we went to Sunday’s. You can of course go to Sunday’s on Sunday but we didn’t. You can’t go on Monday or Tuesday but any other day of the week is fair game.
We had guests from out of town and were actually intending to go elsewhere but our original plans fell through so we were looking for a place last minute and came across this new restaurant in beautiful downtown Uxbridge and knowing nothing about it except some yelp pictures we decided to take a chance. Best idea ever!
Its very much in the farm to table mold and appeared to be very vegetable forward. It turns out that they actually have their own farm nearby and much of what they serve comes from there. I was hopeful but wasn’t prepared to be blown away!
Lots of places talk about being local but these guys mean it! We had a variety of things, some as aps some as mains. First up was the innocuously name “Cherry Tomato Toast” This stellar dish turned out to be the sweetest cherry tomatoes I’ve ever had, served on a bed of ricotta and apricots on….wait for it…Little Thief Bakery sourdough tin bread. This bakery, an Uxbridge Institution, is about a half a block away. The bread isn’t delivered it walks there! Now that’s what I call local. And apricots and tomatoes?? Who knew?
The beet hummus and chips were far too rich and decadent to possibly be good for you. While we’re talking about decadent, let’s talk about the steak frites! I ordered it rare. I like rare. What most people call rare is actually medium rare but in an amazing twist, my steak was RARE!! A slight char on either side and boom. Melt in your mouth.
My compatriots raved about the smoked trout rillette, the Wagyu smash burgers, but personally I had entre envy when I saw the also innocuously named Pork Loin Cutlet with seabuckthorn and fennel and saw it was an enormous schnitzel!! I LOVE schnitzel. I’d never heard of seabuckthorn until I went to the Uxbridge Farmers Market and saw it there. While we’re talking local, it too is a block away every Sunday. (My recommendation: On Sunday, go to the Sunday Market then go Sunday’s)
Kind of ironically, they don’t serve Sundaes. They do however have a wicked Cheesecake and also great, a Buttermilk panna cotta.
This is fare that could easily be served in the most intimidating upscale downtown restaurant anywhere in Canada. But the thing is, they wisely let the food speak for itself in the most intimate laidback atmosphere with service to match.
So you’re asking, “John, did you like the place? Would you go back?” to which I am...
Read moreWe tried Sundays Restaurant and ordered three dishes😎Duck Liver, Smoked Trout Rillette, and Rösti.
First of all, the restaurant’s atmosphere was amazing. The moment we walked in, it felt warm, welcoming, and harmonious. The space was spotless, cozy, and filled with great vibes. We sat near the open kitchen! At first, we worried we might leave with a strong oily smell, but surprisingly, not at all! The air was clean and comfortable the whole time, which really impressed us.
Every staff member we met was so polite, friendly, and patient. They all greeted customers with a genuine smile and managed both reservations and walk-ins in a very organized way. You can really feel that they care about every guest’s experience.
Duck Liver👉🏾The presentation was absolutely stunning, almost too pretty to eat! The flavor was perfectly balanced, rich but not greasy or heavy at all. Every bite felt smooth and elegant, especially when paired with their sourdough. Honestly, flawless.
Smoked Trout Rillette👉🏾At first, we hesitated to order this because the presentation didn’t look very “Instagram-worthy” (you know how we all eat with our eyes first 😅). But the bar lady highly recommended it, saying it was her personal favorite on the menu and wow, she was so right. It completely exceeded our expectations. The flavor was fresh, delicate, and not fishy at all. Everything on the plate complemented each other perfectly, and the taste just filled the whole mouth in the best way. So glad we trusted her suggestion☺️truly unforgettable.
Rösti👉🏾Compared to the other two dishes, this one was a little less impressive but still enjoyable. It was tasty, though slightly overcooked and a bit oily, which affected the texture a bit. Still, overall, not bad at all.
Every dish showed great attention to detail and flavor, and with the warm service and cozy atmosphere, it made for a truly memorable dining experience. We’ll definitely be back...
Read moreFor those looking for a great meal in a surprisingly out of the way country-living tiny town surrounded by Walmarts, Wendys, and retirement homes, this will not be disappointing. If, on the other hand, you're curious about the fact they are Michelin-mentioned, I am sure you will be more than a little puzzled and confused. We've had phenomenal creative meals all over the world (including those from tire guides), and though the cuisine here is good, it's definitely not impressively creative or with mind-blowing flavours, and definitely uneven, for example our halibut was half the size of the portion served to the table beside us, the bison tartar's veggie filling out-volumed the raw meat, and servers didn't bother to ask about allergies nor mention specials which we (later) overheard being sold off to others. Inevitably too there is the rush to get us out before the next seating in 90 minutes, to maximize on their mention. Most likely at the time they were thus reviewed months ago the experience was-- different,...
