Iron Kitchen is a 'create your own noodle soup' and 'iron skillet' restaurant located in the Killarney area. Before it was Iron Kitchen, it was previously a Korean Restaurant. Much of the layout remains the same though they have updated the look of the restaurant.
There is ample parking as they have a dedicated parking lot for the entire plaza. It can get busy at times but we've never experienced a time where we couldn't find parking.
We arrived at 5:00PM on a weekday and found ourselves alone in the restaurant. Another party arrived as we were eating so we suspect there is a small volume of people that come by. The restaurant will seat around 30 people at capacity so there is likely no wait.
We ordered the a soup noodle and also an iron skillet so that we had some variety to choose from. For the soup noodle, we ordered the Satay soup base, egg noodles, chicken balls, and dumplings. We added some bubble waffles to make it a combo for an addition $1.50. For the skillet, we ordered the augus beef with rice. Our combos came with a drink and we both opted for milk tea.
The noodle soup tastes on par with every other 'create your own noodle soup' style restaurant. The soup base was nice and tasted of satay, the noodles were cooked well and had a bit of a bite. The chicken balls and dumplings were also pretty good. Again, it was your standard experience.
The skillet was a bit of a disappointment. It did come very hot, however, unlike the picture they posted, the beef was already cooked. Even more disappointing was that their tatter tots were precooked and likely just microwaved. It looked great but the taste just wasn't there. If I ordered again, I would have just gotten the noodle soup.
The biggest redeeming factor here is the bubble waffle. They were great! Crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. These were probably some of the best bubble waffle we've hand in Vancouver.
Service was pretty good, the wait staff were friendly and efficient. They checked up on us and we really appreciated that they waited for us to be about 3/4 way done before they made us the bubble waffles.
Overall, this was a hit and miss for us. We'd recommend coming here for the bubble waffles and the noodle soup but we would steer clear of...
Read moreFood is good, male server was pretty friendly, it was almost closing so the female (short hair) waitress came over with the bill. I was paying by card so she got the machine, she punched in the amount and asked for my card. I thought she was going to do what other waiters/tresses do and just insert the card and have me do the rest and add in tip myself but she had the audacity to just tap my card and enter the tip herself! I know its courtesy to tip, I was going to tip myself but for her to just tap the card herself, that was a big shocker. Tipping is something that we should do but we do not need to. My friend paid by cash, and she was still nagging her to tip an extra dollar or two out. I was very shocked I knew I should’ve said something but I’ve never encountered this kind of service before. Would not come here again... but also makes me want to - to see if she pulls that again - I’ll be ready next time to talk to her if she did because that’s not something you should do. That’s not good service, it leaves the customer bitter and they will be telling others about it. Please, if this lady comes up to you with a machine and asks for your card, decline and ask for the machine yourself, it is your money, you decide how...
Read moreThe food at this cafe is decent, EXCEPT the customer service there is HORRIBLE! The waitress I had today did not give me back my change and assumed it was for her tips without informing me of it. I asked for my change back and she aggressively questioned me why I needed it. Due to the poor service I received today, I was reluctant to give the non mandatory 10% tip. After she forcefully told me that I HAD to pay the tips, I told her I would go back to my table to get some smaller change for tips but she continued to show hostile attitude towards me. In the end, I gave her the 10% tips but I am furious of the attitude she showed towards me. I will not be coming back.
edit: came back here and was served by same waitress. she did not pressure for tips anymore but she was on her phone the whole time. had to walk up to give her our order because she forgot(?)...
