This place was recommended to me by a friend and I wanted to taste authentic French food. Gave it a try despite hearing other friends say that since the place has changed hands (new ownership) the food and service has gone downhill.

Walking in, we were greeted in French 👍 Reservation noted and offered a selection of three 2-seater tables. When asked if we could sit at a larger table so I could work and eat, I was declined by a lack of my acknowledgement of the request. The waiter reiterated my options. None of them ideal we chose the lesser of evils which was a seat in the back where we’d have less initial traffic. The tables are so cramped together that you cannot get a wheel chair through and I myself (as an average weight and fitness person) couldn’t walk through without a leg or hip bumping into a table or chair.

We were offered a barely legible chalk board with their daily specials. I had to ask the waiter (who never introduced himself/no name tag) what it said to see what was written (the other boards were better written - so we were provided the worst one). The regular menu was about as desolate as the restaurant (we were the only ones sitting in it at the time of our reservation).

We ordered our food and wine (wine was good). My party mate liked the mussels and was glad that those hadn’t changed. He confirmed though that the steak (and tried it for myself), was not on expectations and completely changed (for the worse). It tasted like a charcoal brick with little to no flavor. He ate it as he doesn’t believe in wasting food even if bad - but it needed to be sent back to the kitchen. It was so flavorless. 😞

My arctic cod was actually quite good - but outside the wine, this was the only thing that was tasty. My party-mate wished they had ordered this instead as it was good. This item wasn’t on the menu last time he had visited so was happy to see something of decent taste on the menu.

The cream of corn was palatable but wasn’t worth the price or inclusion to this meal. Yuck 😑 Bland, tasteless. Cream of Corn in a can from the super market has more taste than this. Wouldn’t recommend. Save your $10CAD.

I did like the wall atmosphere but the table situation was a huge turnoff. The wait staff wasn’t as attentive as I’m used to at a sit down restaurant. Overall, my bill was about $70-75CAD for my lunch meal + tip, not worth it at all.

Seems word of mouth was true on this place - it has gone downhill since the ownership change and is not what it used to be - flavorless food that’s over priced. Save your money and go...

Came here for brunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but quickly filled up after we sat down. We didn't have reservations but would recommend that you make one to guarantee a table. They scanned our QR code and checked IDs and we were seated promptly on the patio. The heater on the patio is a huge plus making it nice and cozy. It's also nicely separated.

Service was really attentive. They always checked if our food was okay and refilled water. We ordered the rillete, mussels with fries (regular size), french toast and a baked Alaska for dessert. The rillete was okay and was not something we were used to. Definitely not made for me but it was an interesting dish to try. The mussels were DELICIOUS and so were the fries. They are served in this pot where the lid is used for the shells. The white wine sauce was delicious and the baguette they give you in the beginning is amazing for dipping into the sauce. The mussels are big and juicy. The fries are very addictive when hot but difficult to finish since we ordered quite a bit of food. They give you a kind of mayonnaise sauce to dip which goes really well with the fries (although you can also ask for ketchup). The French toast was not bad. Very rustic style with the baguette. The fruit salad is definitely the star of the show here with blueberries, strawberries, melon, oranges, mint and dates. We finished our meal with a baked Alaska. I was very excited to see it on the menu as you don't see it often on menus. The outside was nicely baked and crispy. The inside sorbet was on the sour side so be warned. The fruit salad with the whipping cream was a nice addition.

Overall would definitely recommend this place for food especially if you are in the neighbourhood. This is definitely a neighbourhood gem. I've been here a couple times and it's always enjoyable time. The food is good with no frills, service makes you feel like you are part of a family and the prices are acceptable especially in the times we are in. Next time I definitely want to try the breakfast sandwich that's served on a croissant. Peeked at the tables next door and they...

🌃🍝 Evening Elegance at Café Salade de Fruits: From Daylight Delights to Nighttime Indulgence! 🍷✨

🍝 Our recent visit to Café Salade de Fruits marked a delightful departure from our usual routine. Known to us as a daytime haven for delicious pasta, this was our first venture into their evening offerings, and what an enchanting experience it turned out to be! 🌟

🌜 We were lucky to get a last-minute reservation and were pleasantly surprised by the ample and comfortable space provided on their patio, ideal for our group of four adults and two kids. The patio's warmth and coziness, enhanced by just-right heating, made our evening dining under the stars exceptionally pleasant. 🌠

🏡 Café Salade de Fruits always feels like a home away from home, thanks to its family-style atmosphere and the owners' heartwarming hospitality. Their welcoming nature shone just as brightly at night as it does during the day. 🤗

🍽️ The dinner menu tantalized our taste buds with a variety of exquisite French dishes. The Mussel and Fries were delectably savory, and the Daily Fish, an Arctic Char on this occasion, was a masterpiece of flavors. We indulged in the Mushroom Ravioli Pasta with Truffle Cream Sauce, which was a creamy delight, and the Chicken Cordon Bleu, a perfectly executed classic. Accompanying our meal, the house white wine was a delightful pairing, enhancing the overall dining experience. 🍷

🇫🇷 This nighttime visit to Café Salade de Fruits was a revelation, showcasing the versatility and charm of this beloved bistro. It's a reminder of the joys of exploring familiar places in a new...
