Hi, I recently went to this place and was really excited since I heard a lot of good things about it. Upon entering the restaurant, a waiter led me to my table. There was a grey creature already sitting on one side of the table so I thought maybe the waiter made a mistake and forgot that the seat was already reserved (while also wondering what the creature even was), but when I asked another waiter walking around in the restaurant, they assured me that it was in fact my table and insisted that I take a seat. I sat down in the seat across from the creature and felt quite uncomfortable when the creature immediately locked its eyes on me. I tried to ask what was going on and if I could kindly request it to look away but I didn't receive any response. At this point, I was thinking to myself, "this is the worst experience ever, I'll quickly finish this meal and leave a one-star review to let people know to be careful", but the more I studied the creature the more its eyes looked less menacing; I don't know how to describe it, but those big round tapioca pearls almost looked mesmerizing. Instead of telling it to go away, I tried to ask it how it was. Apparently the creature didn't speak English, but it responded with a deep and steady noise while slowly bobbing its head up and down. I guess if I had to put the noise into words, it kind of sounded like "zodon". Zdon? Zdun? Zhdun? Anyway, it seemed like it at least understood what I said, so I tried asking him some questions like whether he liked the food there, how long it had been sitting there for, or what its name was. Unsurprisingly, besides the head nodding, it responded to all the questions the exact same way — "Zhdun, zhdun, zhdun." I thought it was quite amusing, and since I didn't want to call it "hey" anymore, I decided to name it "Zhdun". About 10 minutes after I ordered, the food arrived and the waiters seemed to be used to Zhdun's presence as they completely ignored it. With several bowls and plates of food in front of me, I felt that I couldn't just eat it all by myself and make Zhdun watch, so I offered it some. Like the good calm creature he was, he slowly opened his mouth and seemed to really enjoy the food. Can't blame him, the food was pretty good. As I fed Zhdun more food, I could feel that he was regaining some sort of energy; our conversations got livelier and I was actually beginning to have fun talking to him. After we finished the food, I stood up to pay the bills, but Zhdun remained in his seat with not a bit of intention to move. Fair enough, he was there to begin with. Though, it still felt like I was abandoning a good friend I've just made. I said goodbye to him, he waved at me and muttered "zhdun" one last time before taking his eyes off me and returning to the way he was when I arrived. I can't say I was expecting this experience at all, but it was certainly the most fun I've ever had in a restaurant. If you run into this creature at Cho Sun, please do not be afraid as it is...
Read moreOverall it was great.
Walked in with a friend in the evening. It was kind of packed, and the waiting area was crowded. We placed our name on the list for 2 people. There were 4 groups in front of us, we were the fifth. We were standing for a bit, then were able to sit down in the waiting area once people were being called up.
The ambiance was great, looked like a really nice place. Great decor. Good impression upon entering the establishment.
We were seated pretty close to the entrance where the main door was. I would not recommend it on a cold day because we kept on getting a cold breeze every time someone entered or left the restaurant.
Ordered 2 types of Korean BBQ and an order of your standard bibimbap (see pictures).
The two Korean BBQ was amazing! They tasted so so so good. The sauce they were marinated in was absolutely delicious. We cooked it ourselves on the grill built into the tables.
The sides the Korean BBQ came with tasted amazing as well. The miso soup was the best I've ever had, better than any sushi restaurant I've been to. The spicy pickled cucumbers were also very tasty.
The brown rice tea they served also tasted very delicious.
The waiters and waitresses were nice. Helped me with the burners whenever I needed help and didn't get annoyed with me which was great.
Why deduct 1 Star? :
the waiter took a very long time to come to us to take our order after seating us down. They didn't refill our tea or ask us they'll be just a few minutes or anything and we were just sitting there wondering if they even know we exist, we were ready for about 10-15 minutes, knowing exactly what we were going to order. We had the menus closed, to let them know we were ready to no avail. The waiter passed us by at least 8 times but didn't say anything. When I was staring at the waiter behind the counter, ready to get up to get their attention, they finally grabbed a pad of paper and pencil and came our way. Was disappointed.
The bibimbap was not very good; it did come in a cool stone bowl but it tasted mediocre and the beef it was supposed to contain was such a small portion (Approximately 1.5 - 2 tablespoons of ground beef, see pictures attached). So small, that after mixing it all together, it looked like I ordered a vegetarian bibimbap. I could barely see or taste the beef. The bibimbap at Sushi Town (see my review) was way better. Cho Sun is a Korean BBQ restaurant located on Kingsway, Vancouver BC. It’s the only Korean restaurant near my place. My boyfriend and I had Korean food at this restaurant a couple of times. We had a great time eating there
Location: The restaurant is located on one of the busiest streets in Vancouver, 5 to 10 mins away from Metrotown, which keeps its always super busy. It’s a medium size of the restaurant. Inside the restaurant, it has traditional Asian style decorations on the wall. Very large space inside it.
Service: The servers in this restaurant are all from Asia, so they have a great variety of food including Korean, Korean BBQ, Chinese Korean, and Japanese (sushi) cuisine, which satisfies both of us while choosing dish.
Food: The taste of Food was great, authentic, and flavourful. Calamari $5.95 – Deep fried squid legs with mayo sauce on the side. It’s 100% Asian Style Calamari. The taste was OK. May need more squid legs for the prices. Kimchi Soup $9.95 – Spicy Kimchi stew with pork, tofu and vegetable. It’s one of my favorite dish in this restaurant. The soup was boiling hot. The taste was sour and spicy, which is very authentic. Lots of Tofu and Kimichi in the pot. Totally worth this price. Hot Stone Bibimbap $11.95 – Steamed rice topped with sauteed vegetables, chooped beef and a fried eggs. My boyfriend always ordered this dish. I love eating this with super hot sauce. The hot stone was extremely “hot” so that we have to be very careful when we mixed everything and eat them.Sweet & Sour Pork $17.95 – Deep – fried pork with a lightly sweet sour sauce. The taste was more like the Pork Dish from my hometown – Guo Bao Rou. It was our first time trying this dish. We loved it. Free Kimichi, Sweet Potato, bean sprouts, and Spicy Vegetables.
Price : the price of food was a little...
