UPDATE Aug 6 - Went back again for weekday morning dim sum.
This time, we tried their Bean Curd Sheet with 2 Kinds of Mushroom (12.25). The bean curd came crispy and stayed crispy even after sitting in sauce. The sauce was very savoury without being too salty. It came with a lot of enoki mushroom and Chinese mushroom.
Next, we got the Deep Fried Eggplant with Shrimp (9.75). The eggplant was tender but still a bit snappy since it wasn't overcooked. The shrimp was tasty and juicy.
Their pork and preserved egg congee was also excellent (small bowl for 10.95). This serving was good for 6 full individual bowls of congee. The congee was very creamy and had a fragrant ginger flavour mixed in with its natural meaty flavour. It was creamy but didn't taste like it was thickened with flour or starch.
Lastly, we tried the Deep Fried Boneless Fish (13.95). I thought this would be like basa filler nuggets, but it appears to be Yellow Croaker. The batter was crispy and thin and the fish was tender while also able to retain some of its texture. It tastes very fresh!
Pretty good dim sum experience in terms of portion sizes/quality and price. We came on a weekday afternoon and it's 20% off if you come before 11:00 AM. It's 10% afterwards and 10% on weekends,/holidays. Since we came early the cost of tea per person was 1.00 each.
To start, we got the black bean spareribs with kabocha squash (8.95). The spareribs were tender and had good black bean flavour without being overly salty.
The deep fried bean curd wrap with shrimp (10.25) was really crispy and the shrimp filling was snappy and fresh.
The turnip cake with xo sauce (10.75) was crispy and the turnip was soft and rich. The XO sauce wasn't overpowering either (XO sauce is made of a mixture of dried shrimp/scallop). It also has a lot of bean sprouts that were pan fried.
The halibut with ginger and green onion (13.95) was crispy in the skin and the fish was fresh and tender. It was done in a simple soy sauce (kind of like a steamed tilapia).
Lastly, we got the deep fried chicken knees in special sauce (12.80). The chicken was fried until crispy and was overall soft except for the bits of cartilage throughout. It wasn't so much sauced but tasted like the chicken was marinated in a red fermented bean curd (kind of like Taiwanese fermented pork chop). The flavour wasn't sour or pungent, but had a unique kind of umami to it.
Overall really good dim sum quality and portion size. Service was efficient in clearing dishes, though not the...
Read moreThe first time we were in the area around lunch time, we didn't even notice this restaurant. So we ended up eating fried chicken nearby out of desperate hunger :-0. Then I researched the area on Google maps and found Come Along. After looking at the helpful food pictures online, I decided that we should try it next time we are in the area. I had to convince my partner to walk in because the lack of activities and people outside gave us the impression that it can't be that good. We were really surprised after we got past the front door. The place was not that big, but buzzing with activities. Lots of people eating their lunch happily. And these people looked like they are regulars. The interior even looked fresh and new. We ordered a simple lunch of fish congee, fried Chinese donuts, tofu skin with baby bok choy in vegetable broth, and shrimp dumpling. The congee was delicious. They used cod filet which was very tender. The Chinese donut was reheated so that was disappointing. The tofu skin dish was very good also, the har gow were huge. We returned for dinner another night with 5 friends. We tried Peking duck, there was duck meat attached to the skin which my friend said is the Cantonese way of doing Peking duck. The skin was crispy. The pancake was freshly made, but a bit on the thick side. They had a special on rock cod. We order a 2 lb one. It was excellent! We were all surprised how tender the cod was, usually, rock cod over 1.5 lbs tend to be on the tough side. We ordered two kinds of tofu; egg tofu with steamed dried scallops, and braised tofu with vegetables. I was not impressed with the braised tofu, it seemed dried and pre-made. The egg tofu was fine. I think we didn't necessarily pick the right mix of dishes. I did, however, see a lot of interesting dished coming out of the kitchen to other tables. The manager was friendly and helpful, and the service was pleasant. It was a Monday night, so we avoided the crowd. We intend to return to explore...
Read moreThis restaurant is quite authentic, overall, waiters don't communicate that well in English, but do know how to take the orders, if you are picky about that kind of stuff, this is not the place for you, I care more about quality of food and authenticity and the overall experience, thus the 4 stars. The Dim Sum is 3-4 star quality, also Yang Chow Fried Rice and lots of other items on the menu. Restaurant is pretty packed, tables closely placed to each other, washrooms old and gloomy, decor is a bit gloomy and run down. Parking is hard during busy times, but available at surrounding streets. Even with all the negative stuff, I love going there with my family and friends, they have large tables with lazy susans and we have a great time, I'm not Chinese but I enjoy different cultures and food, and this place offers that experience and not some Americanised version of a Chinese restaurant, thats why I like going back again and again to this place. Food prices are middle of the road, not pricey nor cheap, try to be open minded and give this place a shot, if you want roses got to put up...
