First, I would like to say that for those of you enjoyed it please understand that this was based on my experience. I went with 2 of my friends because of its excellent reception on Yelp. The reviews were raving about the service and food but we felt both were mediocre or worse. Our waiter, who might have been the owner, was not only slow and unattentive but had an attitude that made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. We got the hummus as an appetizer which was alright, the bread that came with it was fresh and quite tasty but the hummus felt average and didn't justify its price. Other than that, we ordered two steaks and the Spanakopita. The steaks were well done and were extremely hard to cut even though we asked our waiter to have it done medium. Moreover, it was overly chewy and dull in flavor. The sides were absolutely terrible with basic boiled vegetables and tiny roasted potatoes. The size of the steak was about 6 inches which felt ridiculous for the price. It was much more acceptable after using the lemon and a lot of black pepper. As much as I wanted to confront the waiter and ask him for another steak, I couldn't do so since I didn't have the time. What's even more frustrating is that the restaurant was empty yet our waiter was so slow and unfriendly. The Spanakopita was one of the only redeeming factors but again the quantity was very less. The other redeeming factor would be the cinnamon candy the waiter gave us at the end LOL. To say that it was not worth the money would be a huge understatement. Might have gone to the overly popular cactus club and have had a 100× better experience. This concludes my review. I understand some people would be upset with this but I came to this place because of the Yelp reviews and our experience was terrible.
TL;DR: Horrible experience, don't order the steak, expensive, low quantity, horrible service,...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I were visiting Vancouver from out of town and decided to drop by Scoozis after hearing about what a great place it was for breakfast. Before I continue, I want to emphasize that you should absolutely not believe anything positive that you read about the breakfasts here. If you go in with any expectations at all, you'll be sorely disappointed. Things for us started badly with the coffee. The first cup had no flavour at all, literally just tasted like hot water. The second had some hint of coffee flavour, but it was still watery and weak. Don't come here for coffee; not only are there lots of amazing indie cafes throughout the city, but McDonalds can offer you a better cup in Prince Rupert than these guys can in downtown Vancouver. The main breakfast dishes were also extremely underwhelming. My girlfriend got the big breakfast, and the two things that stood out for her and I were the dry, stale toast and the equally dry and overdone scrambled eggs. My french toast was burnt and I ended up having to cut away a good chunk of it, and what remained was also dry and overdone. Bacon and maple syrup were quite good though, so credit where credit is due. All of the above would have been somewhat excusable had the breakfast been less than $10 per person, but we ended up paying over $35 before tax and tip- WAY overpriced for the quality of food. The only thing saving this place from a single star was the service, which we found to be both prompt and courteous. A shame, really, since the front-line staff seem to be let down by whoever is in...
Read moreWhat an exquisite experience yesterday! This place used to be a brunch place and now an Indian restaurant Is my guess. We happened to pass by on our way to Hydra Estiatorio for lunch as the lady outside this restaurant handed us a flyer and we decided to stop by for dinner. So glad we did as this will be our favorite Indian restaurant every time we are visiting Vancouver from Seattle. When the thoughtfully and traditionally rightly made food arrived we were pleasantly surprised. Most restaurants serve various dishes that do not have much character but here all flavors were robust, authentic, right quantity and priced way below than what I would have happily paid. The Cholay baturay, their combos where you pick what goes in your combo, gulab jamoon and ras malai were truly delightful. I hope this quality stays. I am guessing it will because as we gushed our appreciation of the food, the owner was very happy to chat with us. We found out he is also a chef trained at Club Mahindra( Munnar), Hilton etc who is just starting out with his own venture in downtown Vancouver. I will be telling my friends in Seattle to look up the place when they are visiting. Whoever lives in the area you are lucky if you are craving Indian food! Writing this review as a thank you to the hospitality and great food we received...
