I stayed in Vancouver for the entire month of August 2022, here are my notes:
Ridiculous amount of low-lifes riding public transit without paying. Zero enforcement on buses, and near zero on skytrain. Both are often overcrowded as a result. And this in a pandemic, nice.
Incessant gouging of tourists, e.g. $55 plus tax for Capilano Suspension Bridge (but locals get a year pass for the same price), $7 to swim in a public pool (but many locals have a free pass), $18 to ride up an elevator! (Harbour Centre) - and it goes on, any type of attraction like museums, art galleries, all terribly expensive.
Not only accommodation but also food and drink are very expensive here.
Surprising amount of smoking happening in public spaces (frequently marijuana), including rampant smoking in parks and beaches where it is supposed to be banned - zero enforcement there as well.
Lack of public toilets throughout the city, for fear of attracting homeless people, nice. Including skytrain stations, which actually do have washrooms for the use of employees but you are not welcome.
Hastings Street, 3 blocks on either side of Main street is the most horrific thing you will see in a developed country, and you would really have to see it to believe it. Any city that would let that happen to human beings deserves a boycott.
Vancouver may be a good place to live, but it's a terrible tourist destination...
Read moreI love Destination Vancouver, known for a destination for people to explore, interact and enjoy in this beautiful city surrounded with Vancouver Icons, Mountains, Beaches and Nature, and Multicultural, Diverse and a Vibrant Community in BC!
Additionally, I love their Visitor Guide Books (I hope it comes soon in early 2023) and their Visitor Guide Books are published randomly in a different design and cover as yearly and the maps that always changes different yearly but their Destination Vancouver's Official Map of Downtown Vancouver and Metro Vancouver 2022 was the perfect map they have and I love it!
It is good to talk via phone, live chat and email and I hope Destination Vancouver Visitor Centre gets a new home in this Downtown Vancouver very soon!
I love you Vancouver and Destination Vancouver is the greatest and thank you for being too friendly and the lovely maps you gave me and the guides you gave me and...

so when we were deciding on how to get around to see all the glorious things around British Columbia / Vancouver area we thought about a ride share like Uber. unfortunately they don't have this here in Canada so we thought okay let's do taxis maybe. As you can see by the screenshot none of the taxis in the area have above a two-star rating for overall satisfaction. So the only thing we have left to do was rent a car.
Don't do it! because the city will find a way to give you as you can see by the picture over 135 dollars worth of fees if you happen to park in a wrong spot even though you can pay the meter to park there.
Don't know what to tell you about how to get around, maybe use the bus system. But there's no other way that seems good. I know this has nothing to do with the visitor center but there's no other way to rate how poorly the city...
