We went here for a dinner and show event because the description said 'Simply The Best' Tina Turner Tribute featuring former World Tina Turner Tribute Champion, Luisa Marshall! We were disappointed that only three Tina Turner songs were performed. The special event should have been advertised properly so this was misleading. Aside from this, the Luisa Marshall Band was very enjoyable to listen to. The band is very good and plays a wide variety of hit songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s to the present They provided a very energetic performance with good audience engagement. We can see why they have a large following.
Here is our main complaint - we had reserved for two couples. You must pay in advance. Which I did on my credit card for both couples the day before the event on Thursday, January 2.
The wife of the other couple suddenly became serious ill the next day on the day of the event January 3 and landed up in hospital. I called Frederico’s to tell them the circumstances of the cancellation of the couple and they said okay thanks for letting us know. They did not mention anything about still charging for the couple. We kept our reservation for 2 and found out when it was time to settle our bill at the end of the night we had still been charged fully, including tax and 18% gratuities for the other couple. We complained about this and even spoke to the manager. He said the best they could do is to give us a credit under our name in the amount of $157.30 to be used another time.
We find this not very good PR at all under the circumstances. This turned out to be a hugely expensive evening for us. We would have skipped the additional expense of ordering a bottle of wine and before dinner drink if we had known.
Would we go back? Of course. The food was good and we were not rushed. The courses came out nicely spaced. We were given a very nice table with a great view of the stage. The staff were all very pleasant and it is one of the few live music venues where you can dine and dance in Vancouver. The venue was well staffed. Others we know have always reported having a...
Read moreI recently had my first visit to Federicos, on the recommendation of the Director of the Urban Fare food chain.
We made a reservation through their OpenTable system where I also noted it was to be our anniversary. I had no preconceptions about the restaurant, other than good feedback on the net. The location on Commercial Drive is a little sketchy, but don't let that stop you.
Upon arrival they check your coats for you, and very professionally take you to your table, and let you know about the menu changes for the day.The deco is somewhat 30's art-deco and makes you feel like you are in a movie.
We started out with some drinks, and then chose from the appy, main and dessert menu's. I had the meat balls for an appy, and can say that I am now ruined for all other meatballs. Amazing! We then received our trout and stuffed chicken dishes. They were perfectly done, and the sides were spot on for the proteins. Then come the dessert of Tiramisu. My wife is beyond picky and critical of Tiramisu and she has tried it everywhere, and no one can measure up. But, they did it. It was the first time ever that she has given a WOW rating to Tiramisu at a restaurant.
Shortly after dessert, Federico came on stage and began to work the diners. It was a very pleasant surprise that they kept the notes from my reservation that it was our anniversary, so he congratulated us, and then played us a song which we soloed to on the dance floor. Soon he began with other Italian and Latin rhythms, and then moved onto more popular music. He sang for 1.5 hrs and was fantastic. A great one man show that had us all singing along, dancing, and having a wonderful time.
Finally we wrapped up the evening with nothing but smiles on our faces. The food and drink were perfect. The décor and service spot on. And the entertainment was lively and fun.
Thank you Federico and your team for an amazing evening out. You have earned our recommendation to others, and we shall...
Read moreWe were looking forward to eating here. Although we had a reservation, we were seated beside a party of approximately 60-70 people, of which one kept using the PA system to congratulate his parents on 60 years of marriage, and asking everyone to sing some song in Italian. As we were there to celebrate a birthday as a party of 4, we didn't expect to be seated so close to another celebration. There were other tables much further away from them, but we had to ask to be moved there while other diners were brought directly to the quieter area.
Food was not bad, but not good either. My friend's Linguine Pescatore was lacking in seafood to the point of having to dig for the few pieces she had, and overall had very little flavour. Pasta was nowhere al dente as stated in the menu, it was much softer than that. I had the prosciutto wrapped chicken breast. It is described in the menu as "prosciutto wrapped chicken breast, peperonata & provolone filling, potato puree, broccolini, baby carrots". As you can see in the picture, I received a sliver of regular carrot, not baby carrots.
Finally, our main server was good, but the people who brought our main courses not so much. My dinner was placed in front of me from the opposite side of the table by reaching across my friend in front of her and over her food. I expect that at Denny's in a booth, but not a standalone table.
For the money, not impressed. A shame, because we have heard many good things about...
